I was really excited to stay at Hotel Semilla and had booked three nights because I love boutique hotels and the aesthetic of the property. Unfortunately, the check-in experience was frustrating. Our room wasn’t ready, we were initially given the wrong room, and then shown another that didn’t match our booking. We had reserved a quiet garden-view room but were first placed in a front-facing room on a busy street. There was also no assistance with luggage up three flights of stairs, and when we asked to be moved to the correct room, the staff made it feel like a major inconvenience.
When we were finally moved, the room did overlook the garden, but it had a double bed instead of the queen or king stated in our booking. The room was cute but lacked basic amenities like a mini-fridge and sufficient filtered water. The biggest issue was the poor soundproofing—late into the night, nearly 4 a.m., loud bass and music from nearby venues made it very difficult to sleep.
Breakfast was the highlight of our stay. The breakfast staff and chef were warm and welcoming, and the food was creative and well prepared. However, after a very loud night, we asked about cancelling our third night and were told it wasn’t possible, as this is simply a loud area. We chose to check out early and forfeit a night for our own comfort. This hotel has a lot of potential, but improvements in guest service and soundproofing would make a big difference.
