Hotel Laki was a medium-priced option to stay at for my vacation. I found the room to be adequate. I stayed next to the bar on the second floor. There was an elevator which was helpful for my luggage. The bed was comfortable and the room had a small balcony. I particularly liked the throw blanket on the bed that was made from Icelandic wool. There were no room thermostats or radiators for adjusting but the room was warm. The bathroom felt dated but worked just fine. There was some small items that should be replaced/repaired such as a missing sink catch and plug, the showerhead had some clogged holes, and the ceiling had a little water damage. The bathtub/shower was raised and was difficult to enter and exit due to its height. I could imagine those with mobility issues would have difficulties. The water was hot and there was good water pressure.
The service at Hotel Laki was excellent. I believe this is a family run business and they are swift to address any issues you may have. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. The staff at the restaurant and bar were very helpful and I enjoyed chatting with them about the food.
The hotel restaurant and bar are very expensive. Although expensive, the food and drinks were very good. The ambiance was great at the bar, and they had a lot of options (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). There were a couple of items on the restaurant menu that were vegan. The breakfast buffet was large and had many items including lots of Icelandic food. They had seafood options and amazing bread selections. The vegan options were limited, but they did have beans, porridge, and toast.
The hotel has a small souvenir shop that contains handmade icelandic sweaters created by people in the area. They also have postcards, magnets, water bottles, and other souvenirs. They do not offer VAT Tax - Tax Refund Cheque, which you need to get VAT tax back on larger purchases.
