Worst hotel that I have stayed in, anywhere, and when I worked I would travel about 6-7 months out of the year. There are much better hotels in Zafra. Don’t choose this one. Wish I could have gotten a refund, but, no one to talk to. I can understand why there is nobody working the front desk. They don’t want to be associated with the hotel and/or dealing with angry guests. I made the reservation on 26 Dec. When they contacted me on the 30th with check-in information they informed that there was New Year’s Eve party in Plaza Grande that would last until 0700 New Year’s Day and it would be very loud. It was. If they would have provided me with this information at the time of making the reservation I would have chosen a different hotel. The hotel intentionally withheld this information at the time of my making the reservation The room is long and narrow like a mobile home trailer. One wall is the original (?) rock. The spackle on it is falling off. When you get up at night without any light, you get the pleasure of stepping on it. Please see photographs. There is no parking near the hotel. So you need to pull into Plaza Grande, unload your luggage, and then find a place to park about a kilometre away. The wi-fi, couldn’t access it. There are four in the hotel. I couldn’t log onto any of them with my two devices. The devices would identify the various networks, but the wi-fi(s) would tell me the password(s) were incorrect. I contacted a person representing the hotel via Whatsapp and was told the password(s) were on the inside of my room door. Actual in the lobby. As one can see from the photo of the inside of door, the only information was that the room was a non-smoking room. I sent the photography to them and asked for clarification. No response. The diverter valve for the shower is frozen in place. Thus one gets a trickle of water from the shower wand and the main flow is out of the faucet. There was no housekeeping on 01 Jan. The maids were sweeping the hallways, but didn’t make up the room. The floor in the room was so dirty it turned the bottom of my night socks black. Only two nights of use in the hotel. No smoke detectors or fire alarms. Main room had two ceiling lights of which only one worked. The batteries in the remote control for the aircon were pretty much dead. Like the hotel. Only bright spot for my stay was the breakfast. Very good. But, it may to due with the two women working it have pride in their work and have to face the customers.

Good contact via WhatsApp, helpful. Good and safe place to store bikes. Room basic but clean. The windows do really soundproof the room from the plaza, Good location in Zafra. Would have been nice to have some complimentary water as when we arrived not much was yet open.

What an incredible experience - absolutely beautiful hotel, decorations are gorgeous through every square inch of it, rooms and hallways. Water bottles and cookies in the room. The host is so friendly and helpful, printed out a map for us and explained where we could park (free, on the street). Good breakfast selection, tasty coffee. The location is close to all the attractions. Check out the palace of Zafra, which is now another hotel: you can go buy something at the bar, then bring your receipt back to the reception and they will stamp it as your ticket.

We paid 39 euro for a large double room with private bathroom which was excellent value. The building is very beautiful and the location cannot be beaten - we enjoyed many coffees and beers on the square in front. We were lucky that it wasn't busy as you can indeed hear your neighbours as if they're next to you. Our bathroom also occasionally had a bad smell, but overall it felt like a great room. Very friendly service too, and we were grateful we could store our bikes downstairs without any trouble.

Lovely quirky hotel set in a fab location.||Parking within a 5 min walk.|The rooms are furnished in a traditional style with extremely comfy beds.||Simple toiletries provided - that’s fine, it’s not a 5* spa!||Good air conditioning, super clean, and with a lift of stairs aren’t your thing.||Breakfast was fresh and plentiful in the Spanish continental style.||Good value, nice place.

We stayed in December 2017 and very glad we did. Hotel was very well kept and bedrooms were big and bed was comfortable. Windows were old and a bit drafty, but the heating worked a treat. I have the impression that all rooms were different sizes and shapes due to the age of the building. Placed right on the main square, it was an easy walk to restaurants in the center. Would go again. Very good value for money! Breakfast was copious, but very Spanish and the man in charge was working hard to keep everyone happy.

This is one the loveliest hotels we styed in in Spain. Although only 1*, it is in a wonderful location right on the main square of Zafra, with beautiful views over the square and the roofs of the old town. The rooms are perfectly adequate if not large – comfortable beds, flat screen TV, and a very good breakfast is available in the fascinating Spanish courtyard of the hotel. The only unusual experience is that when we personally tried to ask for a room at around 5.30, we were told that they are fully booked – yet half an hour later we had no trouble booking a twin room on the internet… ? Anyway, we were very happy to stay here – highly recommended!

Yelp
Situated on the western side of the Plaza Grande, this aptly-named hotel boasts a tranquil terrace in the shade of a few enormous palm trees. My reasons for liking this hotel is informed by the years I spent living in Zafra, and they are as follows: We didn't know where to enter the hotel at midday, and it turned out that the waiter on duty at the eponymous restaurant servicing the terrace was doubling as the concierge. He scanned our faces and without saying anything, fetched a pair of room keys, asking before handing them whether we were who he thought we were. This interaction happened more or less behind the hotel bar, and that is very "Zafra". As it turned out, as the waiter/barman/concierge explained, a wedding party had booked and the bride and groom had been given one of the rooms we'd reserved, the one with the king-sized bed. Makes sense, right? Would YOU deny them a shared bed on their wedding night? We were happy to accept what rooms were left, those with twin twin beds (for those of us who weren't getting married). Now THAT is some classic Spanish logic in action. Zafra! The rooms featured a very "Zafra" combination of features and complimentary lacks. The rooms had beautifully painted walls, upon none of which hung a clock. A small television was perched on the wall, but we never discovered the hiding spot of its remote control (not that we wanted to use it, anyway). We didn't figure out the wi-fi situation, if there was one to figure out. A petite wooden nightstand stood against the wall between the two beds, and its surface gleamed untroubled by any telephone or wires. We allowed ourselves to off the grid here, and it was lovely. The concierge, on our way out the first day, began giving us directions in rapid Spanish but we stopped him and let him know we'd lived there a couple years and knew our way around, thanked him, and began our very relaxing visit. Paying the man at the end of our stay looked a lot like walking in that first day. With a barkeeper's view of the barroom we just handed him the modest amount the hotel asks and in this way, our stay the Palmeras hotel was bookended by loose, easygoing versions of what some would expect to be formal, programmed interactions. Accepting this style of business is the first step toward understanding and appreciating the "churretin" way of life.
