This place is an amazing jewel! Clean, balcony right on the river, spotless little kitchen with icebox/and freezer, microwave and stove/oven. Nice hot water in the shower with shampoo provided. A wonderful breakfast buffet is a available for 3000 ISK. Hotel Laxárbakki haven in the storm!

Nice hotel for a one night stay. Atmosphere in the hotel definitely needs improvement. The staff was very friendly, breakfast was very good and the room was spacious.

We had a cottage and it was very nice. There was a radio but it only received two stations. It would be better to replace it with a TV. Included hottub and sauna was very nice. The cottage was very very hot inside and we had to open all windows to have it a bit more comfortable.

We booked the cottage for two nights and it was absolutely beautiful. The view was great and the location was amazing for our different day trips in Iceland. The owner was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. Breakfast was amazing and we had dinner at the hotel one night and it was one of the best meals we had while on holiday.

The whole enterprise, in spite of being a small business, meets (or in some respects, exceeds) all expectations from paying tourists, in terms of the interior planning, and facilities available, including a hot bath and a sauna room! The heating systems inside the attached washrooms work superbly! The buffet timings are a little strict, so that the management has no problems catering to the small number of residents with respect to timings of meals. All dishes are delicious, and the dining area is quite spacious, and contains the reception desk! The remoteness of the location helps maintain serenity, and is a perfect place for tourists who love some quiet! We highly recommend checking out this place!

We came to eat at the restaurant. We were looking for traditional Icelandic food, and we found it! It was excellent. The staff was great, he heard us speak French, and he whipped up some French of his own! Nice little gem in the middle of nowhere!

I stayed one night in the beginning of September 2024 and could not have been any happier with my decision to book here. My room was larger than expected and had a kitchenette (not sure if they all do) that was stocked with plates, glasses and utensils. After a long day of driving and sightseeing, it was wonderful to enjoy a glass of wine out of a proper wine glass! The owner Brynjar, was very helpful and kind. I made the mistake of not including my arrival time when I made my reservation, not realizing that this is a family owned and run establishment. DO NOT be like me! Had I communicated my late arrival time, I suspect Brynjar would have been able to enjoy his evening rather than spending it waiting around for me to arrive. A few days after I checked out, I realized that I left my swimsuit hanging in the closet. I emailed Brynjar and he quickly got back to me and shared that I also left a pair of pants. He graciously offered to ship them to me. I sent him funds to cover shipping and to my great surprise, they arrived a week after I returned to the USA. When I return to Iceland and if my travels take me back to Akranes, I will definitely stay at Hotel Laxarbakki again!
