Le Bailli de Suffren (Le Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, French Riviera / Provence) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Just down the coast from Saint-Tropez proper, on the waters of the gulf of the same name, there’s a town — a pair of them, technically — that’s every bit as worthy a destination as its busier neighbor. Rayol-Canadel isn’t a household name, but among the regular guests of Le Bailli de Suffren, it’s something of a shorthand for a place that delivers all the geographic charms common to the Côte d’Azur’s more famous destinations, but at an unhurried, uncrowded pace." - Tablet Hotels

We had high hopes for Hôtel Le Bailli de Suffren, and while the location is truly beautiful - with stunning views, direct beach and pool access, and a great breakfast - our overall experience was deeply disappointing due to unacceptable hygiene issues. Upon arrival, we were given a room that had visible mold on the walls and a diffuser placed in the corner to mask the musty odor. This is not only disturbing but raises serious concerns about the hotel’s air quality and maintenance standards. When we complained, the initial response was to wash and repaint over the mold, which is clearly not a real solution. We were then moved to a different room - only for one night - and had to wait until the following afternoon to access a third room. Shockingly, this room also had visible mold. Two out of three rooms with the same issue? That’s not an isolated incident - that’s a systemic problem. When we overheard the maintenance staff speaking French, they casually mentioned that they wash off the mold and repaint weekly - a troubling sign of how deeply this issue runs. While the view from our final room was breathtaking (see attached photo), the repeated exposure to mold has left us doubting the overall cleanliness and safety of the hotel. To add to this, dinner at the hotel restaurant was also a letdown - the food was undercooked, just as other reviews had warned. Sadly, no matter how pretty the view is, mold and poor air quality are a health hazard, and it is unacceptable for a hotel of this category to ignore them. We would not stay here again.

We are not lucky with this hotel. We have paid EUR 750 per night for a sea view room. The first picture is what we paid for. We requested immediately for a room change as this is more like a garden view and it’s on top of the restaurant. They said there is no room to change, then next day we made the request again, we were able to change to a smaller balcony sea view room. However, I don’t find the hotel special for this price. The gym room is extremely small with a few machines, the food was expensive but quality is below averages. - We asked for the kid’s chair and it was full of dirt. - The sardine starter had only 3 little pieces of sardine and it was charged for EUR 24. - i have ordered the lamb rack with medium rare, it was well cooked. - The French fries in the pool restaurant was greasy and soft. We returned the whole plate but they did not take it out from the bill. - The chicken skewer had a bit of bad meat smell. - The pork dinner in the restaurant was not even cooked. The waiter said he will check with the chef but didn’t come back to me until I asked him. He said: the pork is supposed to be a bit uncooked but not completely raw like mine. This time, I had to request myself to take it out from the bill. After all, we tried to avoid eating in the hotel again. And, have you ever asked if I want to have uncooked pork? Pork should be well cooked. The problems with the hotel and restaurants are: 1. Too many untrained staff 2. They tried to charge you whatever they can, a small bottle of water is eur 6 in the mini fridge. 3. The service is under average. 4. Nothing impressive 5. Rooms care a bit outdated 6. Swimming pool toilet is dirty and smelly The location is not close to other restaurants, you need to drive elsewhere for restaurants. There are much better hotels with this price.

Beautiful hotel in stunning setting, but for four stars and overall characteristics, pricing is at the very top end in my view. For example: bare minimum gym with only cardio machines, and food was a very mixed experience. Most was ok, but had greasy (triple cooked?) fries at the pool bar and a pork dish in the main restaurant which was partially rare inside (both was taken off the bill after we insisted). Processes seem more complex that needed, for example the pool towels with cumbersome card system.

We were excited to stay at Hotel Le Bailli de Suffren after experiencing phenomenal resorts in Antibes and Saint-Tropez. The location and reputation of the hotel had us looking forward to our visit. However, the check-in process on Monday, 9/9/2024, at around 5 PM with the front desk staff (Caucasian man with short brown hair) was shockingly rude.||||In our many years of traveling to France, we've never found the stereotype of rude French people to be true, which made this experience all the more surprising. When he greeted us, he was curt and brief, asking for our passports and whether we had ever visited France before. After mentioning we had visited many times and even greeted him in French, he remarked, 'I’m surprised your French isn’t better.' Both my wife and I were taken aback, unsure if he was joking or being intentionally dismissive. When we mentioned our road trip from Italy, instead of engaging, he corrected my pronunciation of cities, smirked at his colleague, and left us feeling mocked. It was entirely inappropriate and immediately soured our impression.||||Over the next few days, I avoided interacting with him, but unfortunately, he was the only one at the desk during check-out on Thursday, 9/12/2024, at 6 AM. Again, he showed no interest, failed to ask how our stay was, and acted disinterested in his role. I settled the bill and left, determined not to let his bad attitude ruin our day. If management can identify him, I urge them to address his behavior, as it does not reflect the professionalism expected in hospitality. His dismissive attitude was detrimental to the guest experience and the hotel’s reputation.||||This was particularly unfortunate because the manager we met at the pool was incredibly kind and courteous. I considered mentioning the incident to her but chose not to avoid causing tension, especially as I didn’t want my wife to know how much the interaction upset me. Sadly, we will not return to this property. While the manager was wonderful, I cannot get past how rude this individual was and how it has lingered with us. The South of France offers plenty of phenomenal resorts that know how to treat paying customers, and we will happily take our business elsewhere. What a disappointing end to an otherwise beautiful trip!

This was our 4th stay at the hotel. We love the position and the ambience of the hotel; the fresh fish must be ordered in advance for dinner but if you do this you will not be disappointed. Our two lunches at the restaurant on the beach, were excellent. The pool/bar staff in particular were superb.

Nice, calm and beutifully located for our 3 nights stay. Great service, good food and nice ambiance. If you are looking to get away to a rare beach hotel this is very good option. We would back given the opportunity.
