Our experience at BLVD was a bit mixed so I'll give you the details.
-----Our first night there was awful. So, the hotel is only actively staffed intermittently from about 8a-11a and then 4p-8p. (There is a phone number for emergencies or late night issues.) We arrived after hours so they arranged for us to get a key and check in independently. We were pretty crushed to discover that, not only was their no air conditioning (which we knew about), but there was no fan. It was 85 degrees and we'd been traveling all day. We showered to try and beat the heat, but the plumbing had massive issues. I was miserable.
-----THAT BEING SAID, they really redeemed themselves the next day. Once the manager (owner?) showed in the afternoon we brought up the plumbing issue and he quickly took care of it. I'm pretty sure he just plunged the shower drain, but it worked so *shrug*. When he came back down from addressing that, he told us that he had put a fan in the room. We hadn't even asked yet, so we were grateful to hear it. Those two little fixes took 10 minutes and *greatly* improved our stay. After that, the room was comfortable and we enjoyed the next few nights.
-----The DECOR was interesting and fun, but the lighting in the hallway was super dim and that ended up making everything feel less quirky and more...haunted. The restaurant / bar area was cute and well kept. Atmosphere is a coin toss.
-----The BUILDING is historical which results in some things to consider before you book. 1.) The windows are huge and *do* open, but it's France so they don't have screens. We would open the windows in the evening, but keep the lights off so the bugs didn't come in. With the fan going, it was a very comfortable sleep. 2.) There is no lift and the stairs are spiral and a bit small, so if you have mobility issues this isn't the place for you. 3.) The plumbing thing. Be gentle. Maybe stagger your showers. 4.) The walls are thin. Guests need to be quiet and considerate when coming and going. I would not recommend this location for families with children.
-----CLEANLINESS was good. Everything seemed neat and tidy. No tub, safe, or fridge available.
-----The LOCATION was ideal; tucked in the peninsula, you were easily able to walk over either river to wander the city. The hotel is also right across the alley from a historical church. It was really beautiful. We could hear music during the afternoon mass, bells in the evening, and when it rained we got to watch the gargoyles spit.
-----So, lots of things to consider with BLVD. If you're looking for a place to stay and location and budget are your top concerns, then this might just work for you. If you want creature comforts or looking for traditional American accommodations, then you'll want to keep looking. The staff were very kind, so I wouldn't hesitate to ask them questions or let them know if you have wants/needs while you're there.
