Were Omar Khan’s Wine Tastings a Scam?

"A Beaune hotel whose owner says he was induced to invest in planned wine events that never occurred and successfully obtained a substantial judgment alleging financial harm that has not been satisfied." - James D. Walsh

Gorgeous hotel in a lovely town and the perfect place for a little break. We chose this hotel after listening to rave reviews from friends who've stayed a few times. The hotel has many interesting features, including a beautiful courtyard, which is also perfect for secure parking. Close to lots of other restaurants, bars, and wonderful shops!

Lovely surroundings, thoughtful extras, and vintage style added up to a wonderfully comfortable and stress-free stay in Beaune. Loved our cozy, clean room, warm spa robes, the bountiful petit déj, and the ease of getting out of the hotel's parking lot near the edge of the old town for sightseeing. The furnishings are tastefully venerable, and the whole vibe is delightfully Burgundian. My only caveat: the water pressure in our bath was robust, and the extra European shower heads were a surprising reveille the first morning. ;-) The location can't be beat for visiting the ramparts, market squares, and the Hospices de Beaune. Above all, we appreciated Le Cep's friendly, helpful people. Everyone from front desk to valets and servers in the breakfast room were so kind. (Shout out to Aurélie for arranging dinner reservations for us! Merci mille fois pour les recos.) In short, if you're looking to splurge on vacation in Burgundy, Hôtel Le Cep is the place to do it. We will be back!

My partner and I had a great time at Hôtel le Cep. We appreciated everyone’s amazing service from check-in, the bar, and the amenities. We also did the cave wine tasting which was so educational and delicious. Thank you, Leo! I highly recommend anyone visiting Beaune to stay at this lovely and historical place!

Fantastic hotel! The staff was so accommodating and kind and we enjoyed our room. They also have a nice bar, with special chartreuse! It is in a great location and central to anything you would want to do. It is a bit of walk but doable from the train station. We loved it!

We chose Hotel Le CEP because of its affiliation with SLH and Hilton. The experience was wonderful. We had a beautiful room that was nicely appointed, and the staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. Breakfast each morning was outstanding — I can’t think of anything that was a disappointment. This is what I think of as a traditional luxury experience in the heart of France. Thank you to everyone who made our stay special.

We were perplexed by the 5 star rating of Hotel Le Cep. This is not a 5 star hotel in terms of room quality, food or service. We traveled with friends and each of us had a similar opinion. The rooms were in need of serious updating. We each booked suites. Perhaps other rooms in the hotel were upgraded and more luxurious ? The bedspread and blanket were worn and looked old, as were the pillows. The layout of our friend’s room was extremely odd and not practical. The bathroom lighting was inadequate. We stayed 5 nights and during two showers, we did not have any hot water. Our friends had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door one afternoon and someone came into the room anyway. The first night that we arrived, we met at the bar at 6pm for a cocktail-after waiting for a bartender (or any acknowledgment from staff) for 30 minutes, we gave up and walked to town. The breakfast buffet had some nice offerings but the staff was hit and miss with friendliness. We saw the General Manager running around several times during our stay but not once did he say hello or ask how our stay was going. That was not the level of service you would expect at a five star hotel. Other reviewers have mentioned rooms needing upgrades and hot water issues so this is not an isolated experience. On the plus side, the valet service was very nice and friendly as were several of the front desk associates. And of course, the location is absolutely perfect. Beaune is fabulous.

We booked Le Cep upon recommendation and were absolutely delighted with our stay. From the moment we entered this charming inn we were wowed by the amazing service and ambience. Upon arriving at nearly midnight due to travel complications, we were greeted by the welcoming staff . We were upgraded 2 levels to a large suite booked through Hilton Honors. Micheal, the bartender for almost 10 years at Le CEP there that first night , became our BFF recommending very good wine selections and making us feel at home for our visit so much so that we extended our stay by another night. The front desk on duty 24/7 was always extremely helpful with reservations, logistics and assistance when everyone we asked. The buffet breakfast was the best we enjoyed our entire trip to France. The crackling fire in the fire place added to the warm ambiance with period furniture and several rooms that invited you to linger over breakfast or in the evening with a glass of wine.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Le Cep. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt welcomed, attended to, and treated with gracious hospitality and respect. The hotel is comfortable and well maintained, the staff is respectful and friendly, the service gracious and prompt. The front desk was able to assist with recommendations for restaurants, wine tastings and other matters that we inquired about during our stay. We loved our visit to Beaune and our hosts at Le Cep most certainly had a role in that.

Yelp
Boutique hotel in the heart of Beaune. Highlights- the suite is quite spacious with immaculate service (they take care of things like forgotten power adapters for Europe, plus other small extra small gifts to welcome us to Burgundy). The wine list is extensive with four DRC bottles in their cellar. The hotel has its own cellar where the wine tasting is individual only (no group tastings) and tailored towards all levels of tasting. The bartender is very nice and the hotel owner hangs out at night to welcome you and knows the details of your stay. They arrange to call domaines as well to help you with wine tastings.

Yelp
As AmEx travelers were upgraded from a junior suite to an apartment (Nectar) #128 which opens onto the courtyard. Two bathrooms, one with a bidet is nice. All our amenities were outstanding. The concierge can arrange anything including wine tours with expert wine educators, superb taxi drivers to CDG, and RSVPs at Michelin starred restaurants. All 5 of us in our travel group enjoyed our stay immensely

Yelp
We stayed here for one night and had a wonderful experience. Rooms are all different as the hotel has grown over the years. We booked a suite that was quite large and had a beautiful bathtub. This hotel has such warmth and character and you really feel like your stepping back into time. The lobby area is very historic feeling and is the perfect place to cozy up to the fire and have a glass of burgundy. The staff went our of their way to be helpful, particularly Jean Claude. This hotel is a large part of the reason we fell head over heels for Beaune.

Yelp
Hotel Le Cep is absolutely fantastic. We stayed in the Grand Cru Suite and it was blue velvet heaven, we were so sad to leave! The beds are magically comfortable, the bathroom was gorgeous (the tub!) and the decor was French luxe. The location is prime, you can not do better! Everything was a 5-10 minute walk. We parked the car and never used it the whole time we were there. The staff was PERFECT in every way - warm, funny, nice, helpful, polite and knowledgeable! Every recommendation the front desk staff gave us was spot on. We did a private wine class/tasting in the wine cave with Sebastian and he was EXCELLENT. We work in the wine industry and his knowledge of the region was impeccable. This is THE place to stay in Beaune.

Yelp
Stayed 4 nights. Completely satisfied with room, personnel, location, ambience, etc... Has private parking on property, which is rare in central Beaune. Cost is 15 Euro per night to park the car. 18th century buildings with typically decorated romantic period furnishings. Comfortable bed. Plumbing works fine. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Don't select this hotel for the exercise room (ridiculously tiny attic airey with 5 machines crammed together). Free Wi-Fi service. Perfect lodging for romantic wine country holiday. Pricey at 200 Euro per night.

Yelp
Great spot right in the middle of town. Just checked in and brunch and a glass of wine at the bar have been right on! Staff is friendly and very accommodating!

Yelp
A beautiful Inn. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The rooms were large and clean. The dining room is stunning. Beaune is quaint and perfectly located for exploring the wineries of the region.

Yelp
Definitely a fan. Cute little hotel, very attentive staff. Centrally located at the center Beaune. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of where to go and what to try for wine tasting.

Yelp
What a disappointing experience. I've stayed here before. What happened? I was here to scout a future trip and this was a desired hotel for a future trip in 2015 for VIPs. What's wrong: the restaurant, it is separate from the hotel.. They have no influence. They are completely separate. If you want a reservation, it is better to get it directly. The staff: this is most uninformed group I have seen. The wines: remember when the bar had a huge list of wines to taste? It no longer exists, last night, there were 2 red wines to taste, here right now, wish me luck. What a tragedy.
