A Wine Lover's Guide to Beaune, France - AFAR

"If you’d rather stay in the center of Beaune, book into the old-school but enchanting Hôtel Le Cep, with its wood-beamed ceilings, canopied beds, and antique furnishings. Even the hotel’s Spa Marie de Bourgogne is dedicated to all things wine; its Vinésime treatments use the vines’ natural antioxidants with extracts of pinot noir and chardonnay." - Eleanor Aldridge

The room here was great. It was large for a French hotel. The employees of the hotel are excellent and service orientated. They are there to help. They booked nice restaurant reservations for us and did other things. Adrien is wonderful. He is personable, and extremely helpful. He listens, and then has the contacts you need to get something done. The location in Beaune is great because you can walk everywhere easily. Not too far from the train station either. The bar is well appointed and the restaurant next door is very high quality. Looking forward to staying there during a spring time trip.

What a great property. The service was incredible. Kudos to Kevin in the spa who made the experience absolutely awesome. He is attentive and also knowledgeable. Michael at the bar literally created amazing experiences every night for me and my friends. He deserves accolades.|Perfect location centrally located. Rooms are good and probably the most impressive shower I have seen from a water pressure perspective in an old building. Kudos to the property overall! Great experience.

While the service of the staff was good, the hotel itself is not aging well. The owner is clearly not keeping up with any maintenance or upgrades. The shower head was literally spraying in every direction across the bathroom, the toilet seat was no longer secured to the toilet and the bed was not comfortable. The room was ancient and looked nothing like any of the photos on the website. Plus at the price, I would have expected air con to have been added at some point in the last decade. It was barely tolerable in May. I can't imagine how bad it would be in July. Consider this to be merely a 3 star hotel when making you booking.

There are dog friendly hotels and there are dog friendly hotels, and this is the latter! A luxury hotel for you and your pooch and an ideal stop off on the way to or back from the South of France. Beaune is a stunning French town and this beautiful hotel is perfectly situated to explore all that Beaune has to offer.

It breaks my heart to give this hotel 4 stars. The service staff was amazing but the hotel rooms are so run down! Our room didn’t look anything like the pics posted by the hotel. The shower tub was clogged and did not drain well. The AC was not functional. The lobby area was interesting. The hotel had a beautiful courtyard and secure parking area.

Hotel Cep is truly an exceptional place to stay. Romantic, beautiful lobby/breakfast rooms, and very nicely appointed rooms with a great large bathroom. The staff was wonderful. It’s easy walking distance to the Hotel Dieu and the surrounding sites/ramparts. Easy access to nice local restaurants, and right down the street from Joseph Drouhin Winery, as well as others. Parking on site. The buffett breakfast was excellent, including eggs cooked to order on request. We absolutely loved this hotel. The Michelin-starred Loiseau de Vignes is part of it, but indepently run. A very nice convenient place to have dinner the night you arrive! Highly recommend!

We stayed in Le Cep in October for 3 nights. Great location, great service.||Some of the rooms are a bit small and old, but we were moved to a wonderful suite, and we will stay at Le Cep next time we come.

I have mixed thoughts about our stay here. The staff were accommodating and helpful on arrival - holding our bags and trying to have the room ready early as we had travelled far. It isn't a terrible place, but it's all the little things that added up. We paid around 700 Euro for a room to fit our family of 4 with one child on a day-bed and one on a sofa-bed. The room (224) was very dark, very old-style with heavy red curtains and dark furniture. We saw other rooms on the website but I think they are in a renovated part of the hotel as they looked amazing. It was clean, but really needing an update. It was hard to get up to our room with heavy bags as is often the case. The "gym" was about 5 stories high in an attic - a small room with a few pieces of equipment. We broke a glass in the bathroom and had to ask 3 times for glass to be cleaned up properly. We wanted to enjoy a bottle of champagne in our room and there was only cheap, plastic glasses available. The champagne from the mini bar was not delicious either - maybe oxidised. We felt it was not worth the money - maybe the exchange rate contributed to this, but we had high expectations!

Yelp
Boutique hotel in the heart of Beaune. Highlights- the suite is quite spacious with immaculate service (they take care of things like forgotten power adapters for Europe, plus other small extra small gifts to welcome us to Burgundy). The wine list is extensive with four DRC bottles in their cellar. The hotel has its own cellar where the wine tasting is individual only (no group tastings) and tailored towards all levels of tasting. The bartender is very nice and the hotel owner hangs out at night to welcome you and knows the details of your stay. They arrange to call domaines as well to help you with wine tastings.

Yelp
As AmEx travelers were upgraded from a junior suite to an apartment (Nectar) #128 which opens onto the courtyard. Two bathrooms, one with a bidet is nice. All our amenities were outstanding. The concierge can arrange anything including wine tours with expert wine educators, superb taxi drivers to CDG, and RSVPs at Michelin starred restaurants. All 5 of us in our travel group enjoyed our stay immensely

Yelp
We stayed here for one night and had a wonderful experience. Rooms are all different as the hotel has grown over the years. We booked a suite that was quite large and had a beautiful bathtub. This hotel has such warmth and character and you really feel like your stepping back into time. The lobby area is very historic feeling and is the perfect place to cozy up to the fire and have a glass of burgundy. The staff went our of their way to be helpful, particularly Jean Claude. This hotel is a large part of the reason we fell head over heels for Beaune.

Yelp
Hotel Le Cep is absolutely fantastic. We stayed in the Grand Cru Suite and it was blue velvet heaven, we were so sad to leave! The beds are magically comfortable, the bathroom was gorgeous (the tub!) and the decor was French luxe. The location is prime, you can not do better! Everything was a 5-10 minute walk. We parked the car and never used it the whole time we were there. The staff was PERFECT in every way - warm, funny, nice, helpful, polite and knowledgeable! Every recommendation the front desk staff gave us was spot on. We did a private wine class/tasting in the wine cave with Sebastian and he was EXCELLENT. We work in the wine industry and his knowledge of the region was impeccable. This is THE place to stay in Beaune.

Yelp
Stayed 4 nights. Completely satisfied with room, personnel, location, ambience, etc... Has private parking on property, which is rare in central Beaune. Cost is 15 Euro per night to park the car. 18th century buildings with typically decorated romantic period furnishings. Comfortable bed. Plumbing works fine. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Don't select this hotel for the exercise room (ridiculously tiny attic airey with 5 machines crammed together). Free Wi-Fi service. Perfect lodging for romantic wine country holiday. Pricey at 200 Euro per night.

Yelp
Great spot right in the middle of town. Just checked in and brunch and a glass of wine at the bar have been right on! Staff is friendly and very accommodating!

Yelp
A beautiful Inn. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The rooms were large and clean. The dining room is stunning. Beaune is quaint and perfectly located for exploring the wineries of the region.

Yelp
Definitely a fan. Cute little hotel, very attentive staff. Centrally located at the center Beaune. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of where to go and what to try for wine tasting.

Yelp
What a disappointing experience. I've stayed here before. What happened? I was here to scout a future trip and this was a desired hotel for a future trip in 2015 for VIPs. What's wrong: the restaurant, it is separate from the hotel.. They have no influence. They are completely separate. If you want a reservation, it is better to get it directly. The staff: this is most uninformed group I have seen. The wines: remember when the bar had a huge list of wines to taste? It no longer exists, last night, there were 2 red wines to taste, here right now, wish me luck. What a tragedy.
