Very beautiful and elegant furnishings, in a perfect location right in Old Quebec. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Had access to a small shared kitchen in the basement. We had a lovely stay! However, it came as a surprise that there is no one at reception (it is self check-in with a code), although there is a phone number you can text or call for help (and they are responsive). Also, the luggage storage is not in a secure room, just left at the front reception desk where there is no one to watch it (although there is a security camera). As it is an old building, soundproofing isn't great.

Good points . A nice central location for restaurants and visiting the main attractions and shops. Bed very comfortable and bathroom well appointed with plenty of hot water and towels. Decor historic. Our room was in the attic, so lots of stairs and no lift, but to be fair, that's stated very clearly in all advertising. Downsides. Our room (25) was extremely cold, and the air conditioning unit was outside our window. It was on constantly and extremely noisy throughout the night, making sleep difficult. Unfortunately, there was no way to regulate the temperature and no way filter out the generator noise. Also, there are no instructions for the safe. We put passport in there and couldn't unlock the safe to retrieve them. However, a very helpful member of staff from off-site did come with a key to open it for us. ||

Hôtel Le Clos Saint-Louis is a charming gem in the heart of Old Quebec, perfect for travelers who appreciate history, elegance, and personalized service. Set in a beautifully restored 19th-century building, the hotel combines period architecture with refined décor, offering an intimate and romantic atmosphere. We went many times, always perfect ! Each room is uniquely decorated with antique furnishings, rich fabrics, and warm lighting, making it feel like stepping back in time without sacrificing modern comfort. The location is ideal for photographers, with cobblestone streets, historic landmarks, and the picturesque Old Port just steps away. The staff is welcoming and attentive, ensuring every detail of your stay is cared for. Quiet, stylish, and full of character, Hôtel Le Clos Saint-Louis offers not just accommodation, but a true Old Quebec experience worth capturing in every frame.

Staying at Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis was the highlight of our first trip to charming Quebec City. The hotel was lovely, quiet, and the details were luxurious. Beautifully furnished rooms awaited us after a long day of sightseeing. The beds were so comfortable and the reserved parking was a lifesaver. It was worth every penny and more.

Our second floor suite was a lovely Victorian space. The bathroom was very modern with heated towel racks & a rain shower & hand held sprayer as well. There was a designated makeup area with modern mirror with a built in magnifying glass. Loved being able to sit & do my makeup. A couple of drawbacks that I’ll mention is 1) no elevators so if you’re on the 5th floor could be an issue. 2) parking is limited so be sure to arrange that when doing reservations, we thought we had & didn’t. Parking garage nearby, but it’s small & our SUV luckily fit!

If you book here, pay close attention to the e-mails they will send, concerning the key-codes to enter both the building and your room. Also note there are two sets of stairs on opposite sides of the hotel (and no elevators); if you don't find your room at first, as I did, try the other. Having said that, this place was wonderful. The rooms are unexpectedly spacious for such an old building, and the location is easily walkable to tourist centres like Place d'Armes and Dufferin Terrace, while being just far enough off to remain quiet at night. Also, the Nespresso machine (tricky enough to use on its own) did jam on me during my stay, but a phone call to the bilingual concierge helped fix that easily.

WOW! What a GREAT location in old-town! That alone would make me return, but on top of that are the HUGE well-appointed rooms with exceptionally comfortable beds. Firm, but was a soft topper – the best of both worlds IMHO. Plus, it had a nice NORMAL, easy to use and figure out shower! It may sound silly, but other places I’ve stayed have had shower controls that were ridiculously complicated. Lots of plugs and all modern conveniences, many hidden to maintain the air of a fancy 19th century room. It was very comfortable during a summer heat wave and surprisingly quiet. We wanted for nothing with this room/hotel and look forward to staying there again

The hotel is set in a beautiful historic building, furnished with antique pieces and tastefully decorated — it truly feels like stepping back in time. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the old town, within walking distance of all the main attractions and restaurants. I especially appreciated the convenient self-check-in process, with all access codes and detailed information provided by email ahead of time.

Yelp
While the lack of staff was a bit off putting, we found our stay to be relatively comfortable at the time. At one point in the night, someone used our door's passcode to successfully unlock and open our door, which was again, a bit odd, since everyone should have their own code. Despite these things, we were willing to look past them, as the location of this hotel is fantastic. What has really driven me to leave this review is the fact that during the morning of our second day at the hotel, I noticed myself breaking out in a bit of a "rash". I just assumed it was an allergic reaction, since I have them often. However, the "rash" has continued for weeks since we checked out. I'm sure you can gather where this is headed-- this establishment has a bit of a bed bug infestation, and we brought them home with us and now are dealing with extermination fees. I'm not sure if this was just a one off that hotel management have since taken care of, but I will absolutely never stay here again. Having never had bed bugs before, I made the mistake of not carefully checking our room beforehand. If you stay here, I would make sure you do a thorough investigation.

Yelp
I stayed at Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis at the end of April 2024. Don't be fooled by the description on the main page listing on yelp; this hotel is right in "Old" Quebec City with its cobblestone streets and narrow sidewalks. It was probably the home of a wealthy person at some point and is now a boutique hotel. As a point of information, I made my reservation with Expedia. The hotel also has a website of its own where you can reserve a room. The hotel was kind enough to ensure I had a first floor room as stairs are difficult. There are quite a few first floor rooms, as well as a lovely parlor when you first come in. There are no staff on site except for cleaning staff, but I spoke with two of them and both were exceptionally friendly and informative - a good thing, because that's how I found out there was a room in the basement where you could get more pods for your Nespresso machine. I did have to look up using the machine online because the little diagram in the room didn't make sense to me. I did not appreciate not knowing in advance that there were no reception staff on site. I was supposed to receive an email with a check-in info, which I did not get until reaching out and getting that via text. That was when I realized that entry into the building and your room is with access codes. In fact, every contact during my stay was via text. I've never had that experience before, and while it worked out, I'm not certain I'd want to do that again. That's just the old lady in me. I know that many modern hotels do something similar with access codes or apps. The rooms are very old fashioned and lovely. In addition to my room, I was able to eyeball two rooms while they were cleaning, and they were all just as nice. My only concern was the electricity in the building, as I had difficulty charging my phone, and some of the lights seemed to be "iffy" when I tried to turn them on. The bathroom was very nice with room on shelves to place my things. The shower was one of those deep, whirlpool type tubs with a shower nozzle above. That wouldn't have bothered me so much except that there was no railing to hang onto while getting in, or one inside, so it felt quite dangerous. As a result, I only used the shower once. The soap/lotion/shampoo they use is a local product, and I admire them for doing that, but I'll admit that I didn't like it very much. That's just a personal preference. I totally missed the mini fridge in the room (where there was creamer for the coffee, alas) because it was in the closet and just looked like a tiny white box. No big deal; I should have realized. I would have given anything for one of those fold-out luggage holders to set my luggage on. Instead, I used one of the bath towels to cover the little fainting couch at the foot of the bed and put my case on there. It would be nice if there was an electrical plug by the desk so that you could do some work on a laptop. I loved the location, and would stay here again.

Yelp
Excellent location in the Old Town of Quebec City. Lovely decorations -- large, beautiful beds, charming wallpaper, historical architectural details, and-knit slippers (nice touch). Issues: 1. No on-site management or concierge. Guests have full autonomy. This hands-off approach didn't work for us. 2. We smelled cigarette smoke in the hotel throughout our stay. Hotel says "adults-only" policy, yet there was quite audibly a baby guest staying there. 3. No safe, secure area to stow luggage: only a little alcove area near the entrance. Avoid travel to this hotel with expensive luggage or anything of high value in luggage. 4. The hotel seemed to be still figuring out their policies. We had informed them in advance that we would be arriving in the morning. We understood that check-in was not for some hours after our arrival, as hotel staff would need time to prepare the room. When we arrived, we noticed that the room was already cleaned and ready. We contacted management to ask if we could leave our luggage in the room. It took management a while to get back to us -- this includes with my friend calling mgmt. Actually reaching someone who could speak to us about hotel policies took some time and seemed like a more circuitous process than need be. We ended up storing our bags in the alcove and leaving the hotel without early check-in, because we had made other reservations around the city. While we were out, mgmt got back to us that if we wanted to check in early, we would incur a $40 charge. Had we known about this fee in advance, we would have opted for early check-in. Instead, mgmt gave us a bit of a run-around to the point that we'd already left the hotel for the day by the time they had gotten back to us. Furthermore, the hotel managers KNEW all about our itinerary in advance and failed to mention early check-in as an option. To me, this screams of lack of experience. The hotel could have taken this opportunity to show further hospitality to travelers while being fairly compensated for the early check-in service. 5. The ventilation was lacking. Bathroom fan was coated in a layer of dust. When we showered, the bathroom and bedroom became overheated. 6. We spent an unexpected amount of time in the bedroom due to illness. For entertainment, we tried the cable tv only to find access to a few channels -- one of them being Animal Planet, which only broadcast "Critter Fixers" for 12 hours straight. The tv and its picture on the screen were small, like from the '90s or early 2000s. 7. The vending machine was totally broken. 8. Low-end bath products. We bring our own and do not rely on hotel toiletries. Still, bath products can be a small luxury that elevates a hotel stay. . . the ones here did not. The province of Quebec has many fine artisans in the business of producing body care products. It's a shame that this hotel doesn't seem to have a partnership with that community. 9. The staff who were on-site (namely maid service) all seemed to have a nasty attitude. 10. After our stay, we did not receive a survey to review Hôtel Le Clos Saint-Louis. All businesses in the hospitality industry should care for feedback from their guests in order to strive for constant improvement in the guest experience and to curtail any negative aspects of the stay before they grow into larger issues for the business. The hotel did not attempt to solicit our feedback. To recap, this hotel is in a perfect location -- within a five-minute walk of most of the main sites of the Old Town. However, there are a lot of options in Quebec City even during winter carnival, and we would not return to or recommend this one for a future visit. We think fair value for this property would be a maximum $75 per night, as it is well-situated, yet relies heavily on self-service and the rooms feel dated, not in a historically-preserved way. I believe we paid $110 per night and this was at a discount through Travelocity. This hotel felt like an AirBnb experience (without the luxury of a super host). For us, the proximity of a property does not outweigh quality.

Yelp
Lovely room #8 even with the long walk up beautiful spiral staircase. Dark wood, burgundy patterned drapes and bedspread. Nice down pillows, hard mattress (not my fav). Pretty exposed brick wall in bathroom. TV, a/c, screened windows. Nice desk clerks, easy check in, asked for and given 2 sets of keys. Towels changed, bed made daily. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Breakfast included can be skipped. Was yucky all around. Eggs mushy, croissant bready (really good ones all over Quebec so no reason for this), yogurt was more than plain with mushy granola, fruit tasteless. We had once and then paid for better breakfasts other mornings. Not friendly either. Wonderful central location in old city. We walked everywhere and loved coming back to our sweet romantic room. This was a good choice for our 26th wedding anniversary long weekend. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
My wife and I recently returned from our stay at Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis in Old Quebec City, Canada. We are experienced travelers and always refer to YELP and Trip Advisor, among other travel sites prior to booking our place of lodging. Prior to reading the body of my review, note that there are several significant criteria which we value before committing ourselves to a hotel: Time, Money, Breakfast; the precious time we have for vacation, the funds we expend during that time frame and, the Breakfast "experience", which, for us, is as important as the quality and comfort of our accommodations. My comments then are made to assist fellow travelers in making their decisions for choosing a hotel. Much of my commentary will not be found in other reviews nor on the hotel's website.. Although I wanted very much to "like" Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis, several factors would, in all probability cause me not to re-visit this place of lodging again. Here then are my comments for your consideration: Parking: The hotel has a small, tight, parking "area" located at the rear of the building. Entrance is gained by driving around the block and then through a narrow driveway located adjacent to a restaurant. Parking spaces are predesignated and numbered. Ours was in between two other vehicles. After making several attempts at parallel parking, I finally squeezed my mid-sized SUV into my space. Hint: Attempt to have your car face the exit. Otherwise, it will be difficult to turn your car around should you wish to use it later on. There is a $20/day fee for parking. Each of the parking spaces are somewhat oddly positioned requiring a good degree of skillful maneuvering to properly position your vehicle. Breakfast: The hotel's website has words and pictures regarding breakfast; there are some discrepancies associated with both: The breakfast area is located in a converted basement area reached via a very narrow spiral set of stairs. Tables are set very close together. We noted two narrow windows (top to bottom). The buildings' foundation covered half the height of the windows. The remaining portion of glass gave one a view of the outdoor surface at grade. These windows afforded the only source of natural sunlight. We asked for French Toast. Although on the menu, it was not available. We asked for croissants. We were advised they were not available. We settled for scrambled eggs; they were served via an ice cream scoop as one could see the ball-shaped pile of eggs. Toast was served over-done. Condiments consisted of prepackaged mini tubs. Clearly, the one Server was overwhelmed with attempting to keep up with assisting her guests. Summary: Breakfast, at best, was "poor", both on presentation and taste and inconsistent with the hotel's website. We ate breakfast out every day thereafter. (Noting the extreme narrow entry to the basement, I was concerned over making emergency egress through such a narrow set of spiral stairs given the number of guests occupying the small basement space.) Apparently, Ownership learned of my inquiring as to the inconsistencies of their menu vs. availability. Shortly thereafter, I found a note in our room from Ownership, offering to assist us with changing hotels. Frankly, I thought this very odd and somewhat unconventional. Our Room: Note that there are four (4) Premium rooms all located on the top floor. We reserved one of the four. Two are located on one side of the building, two on the other accessed via separate sets of stairs on either side. There are exactly 54 steps to get to the top floor. There are intermediate landings in between. Our room was comfortable. Bedding and linens were of good quality. The ceiling has a significant slope, although quite high. This is due to these rooms being located just below the angled roof line of the building. Dormer-type windows afford a view of the building across the street. Outdoor temps reached the high 80's during our stay. AC was even and adequate controlled by management for the top floor. Rooms below have their own AC controls. (Although we are in reasonably good health, it became a chore to climb the 54 steps each and every time we returned to our room. This became a deal breaker for me.) We requested a small fridge for our room at the time we booked; this was not delivered as promised by Expedia. There is a small shared "kitchenette" in the basement equipped with a fridge, microwave, and sink. We wanted to avoid walking up and down the stairs to retrieve our cold drinks. Consequently, we did not use this facility. Checking-Out: After reviewing our statement, I took exception to the nightly rates which did not reflect the rates shown to us by Expedia. Management (and Ownership) stated that their computer was "acting up" and prevented them from displaying the Expedia rates I paid for. I finally accepted their statement that showed credits against the higher rates which resulted in a reconciled bill. Pros: Location Cons: Breakfast

Yelp
We loved this place. The location is top-notch. We got one of two rooms on the top floor. They are very spacious and have everything you need. Breakfast is included. And the breakfast is AWESOME. It's cooked by the owner. It's a very quiet place. You can't hear anything from the street in your room, unless you open a window of course. Everyone working here is very nice and accommodating. We would definiteyl stay here again.

Yelp
Just got back from a birthday weekend with my husband at Hotel Le Clos Saint-Louis. I booked a stay here after reading great TripAdvisor reviews and it did not disappoint. In fact, we were blown away by the beauty of the hotel, by our room, which was incredible (room #5 is definitely the best room) by the very sweet and warm hosts, the perfect location... every single aspect was perfect. Amazing weekend getaway without children. We will most certainly be back.
