Ideal location in the Cité Médiéval, and only a 10 minute walk along the cobblestones through the Porte Narbonnaise from where the Airport Navette/Shuttle bus drops off passengers. ||There are plenty of good eateries close by and definitely no 'fast food' establishments in the vicinity. ||The room was comfortable - it was small, a bit dated, and at the bottom end of a dark corridor, but it was clean. As I didn’t intend to spend hours on end sitting in my room so the size wasn't a problem. There was a good shower & bath in the ensuite and definitely no signs of black mould. The little fridge hidden in the wardrobe was a bonus. Being an old building, it is very higgledy-piggledy with an old staircase, but this adds to its charm (NB there are lifts)||The view over the garden was very pleasant and quiet; it was lovely place to sit in in the evening with a glass of wine (drinks can be purchased from the small bar).||The breakfast was excellent, dishes frequently being replenished, and plenty of choices suitable for all tastes; a variety of different strength coffees and teas were also available, hot and cold milks, plus juices. Guests could take their breakfast tray out into the beautiful garden, but as a non-smoker, I sometimes found the smokers to be problematic - something that you still have to get used to when in France. ||My room was serviced daily; this was a bit hit and miss. ||The staff members were pleasant & helpful - the dining room ladies are delightful, and they try admirably to communicate with guests who are non-French speakers. ||The only problem that I encountered was that I received no reply to my email with a query. However, I would definitely recommend Hotel Le Donjon for its location and charm. ||

We had a hire car so parked in the hotels car park outside the city walls. There was someone there to meet us there when we arrived who drove us with luggage through the narrow streets to the hotel, a good service. The only issue was that the following morning we decided to visit another town but it took us about 25 minutes to find the car! In fact it is very easy, only about 5 minutes walk, but there had been no-one around to ask directions in the hotel reception in the morning, so make sure you get directions to the car park. When we checked out after a week here it was easy too, we asked at reception and immediately our luggage was driven to our car.|The hotel has a nice atmosphere with old exposed brick walls and wooden beams. However it is quite basic in what it provides - toiletries were just shower gel and shampoo dispensers on the wall in the shower, and at a high height above the bath, so difficult to use in the bath without having to stand up. We found the bed to be too hard for us. There was no welcome drink on arrival, something which we have been offered in other European hotels. Breakfast was good, all self-service with coffee machine and kettle. Bacon, eggs and sausage as the cooked element. Very good croissants, always plentiful and fresh, breads, jams, cereals. Waitress was very helpful. Room was clean, towels changed daily. The location is very good, and at this time of year it was very quiet. Lots of good cafes and restaurants within a few minutes' walk.

Wonderful town to walk around! Hotel Donjon perfectly situated, good breakfast. Great restaurants in the old city. Being there after the tourists leave in the evening is a special treat. Tourist center offers informative tours on history. Great to walk the ramparts at your own pace, but LOTS of stairs!

Great location, close to the castle and ramparts. The parking is outside the city walls and the ride in via electric car is great. Be aware Google maps tried to direct us the wrong way up a one way street as we approached the car park.|Unfortunately check in is 4pm and we arrived early at 3.30. We dropped our bags and were told to return at 4pm which we did but the room was still not ready until 4.30pm...|Our room was adequate, comfortable, but a little tired.

The hotel is very well located and very reasonably priced compared to Hotel de la Cite. The room is tired, but comfortable. They have a lovely garden and it was possible to sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine or whatever. We had a beautiful view of the ramparts from our room. The room was warm at times and the only way to cool was to open the window. Then it could be cold and there was no heating. The bed was quite comfortable.

Google
Chose Le Donjon for the location--in the middle of the walled medieval city--and it proved to be a good base from which to explore. Room was cozy, bed comfortable and view from the window enchanting. Initially parked on the street below and walked hundreds of stairs up into the city; had we made advance inquiry, we would have parked in reserved hotel parking lot with front door valet service for us and our luggage. |Glad we visited in April--can only image what the crowds must be like in summer.

You can’t ask for a better location inside the city walls of Carcassonne. The staff at the hotel are fantastic. It can get noisy if concerts are going on in town. I loved by little terrace. Nice breakfast room.

We stayed at the hotel for the small family reunion trip in June 2025. Incredible place right in the center of medieval town. Incredible breakfast, beautiful peaceful inner garden, amazing helpful personnel! We loved the place and can’t recommend it more!!!

Yelp
Wonderful setting in the middle of Cite de Carcassonne. Neat little courtyard, clean and large rooms (for Europe). Very helpful front desk staff. Also the lobby is a neat old style.

Yelp
My wife deserves the credit for finding this gem of a hotel, located in the city center of this amazing medieval citadel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was very modern and clean. It had all the amenities of a big city hotel. Staying inside the city walls was a magical experience, starting from the minute our complementary shuttle driver picked us up at the car park outside the walls. He then maneuvered through the medieval streets that were built for pedestrians, horses and carriages and now are mobbed by tourists. We managed to get to our room without hitting any tourist or any wall. Anyways, we ended up staying here two nights and we would have stayed longer if we hadn't had other traveling plans in place.

Yelp
Yes, you need to stay here. It's a location that you'll remember for the rest of your life, and the evening and early morning access to the castle allow you to wander free of crowds. Memorable and incredible to watch the sun set from the castle, then walk the uncrowded streets that night and the next morning. We parked at the hotel's paid parking lot and the hotel's shuttle was a ride worthy of Disneyland - tiny van navigating even tinier streets full of visitors. We felt like VIP's. The hotel staff was friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Air conditioning was superb and quickly cooled the room on arrival, but was not needed in the evening after the sun went down. Our room overlooked the street and was completely quite with the doors closed, but it was great to relax in the room with the doors overlooking the street open while listening to the activity on the street.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Our room, in the main building - as the hotel is split over 3 sites, is spotlessly clean. The mattress is firm which is just how we like it. The WiFi code worked first time, tho you will need to get a sepaate code for each of your devices. As it is situated in the old town - Le Cite - access is on foot and the car park is some distance away. In the evening when all the day-trippers have gone home this place is magical, it's like living in your own private castle. Beware the noise from the bin men on a Thursday tho' as they come past at 4.30am

Yelp
I stayed for 3 nights in this very nice hotel inside the medieval walls of Carcassonne. I asked for a room with a view, but due to paying for the least expensive of their accommodations my room was on a courtyard with the only windows being in the French doors. I was surprised at the larger than average (for France) size of my room. I had a great deal of difficulty with the electronic keycards, had them replaced at least 4 times and the front desk finally gave up and gave me an old fashioned large metal key which worked fine. I had no issues at all with the breakfast buffet, I found the offerings to be plentiful and tasty. The staff went out of their way to help me and other guests, all the front desk personnel are fluent in French, Spanish, and English. I recommend requesting a room in the main building, the other rooms are a walk down a couple of streets from the breakfast room. Do opt for staying inside the walls if you're visiting Carcassonne primarily for seeing that area. Public transport is almost non-existent in the city.

Yelp
I wouldn't chose any other hotel in this city. It really is a proper trip back in time to the old days, if they happened to stumble upon such...our modern conveniences. Even if the price is steep, you could grocery shop and snack to make up for the higher cost, it's not all about the food in Carcassonne it's about feeling medieval and part of les paesans. This hotel has so many 13th and 14th century details that are brought out with a contemporary flair that doesn't feel offensive. The service is very convivial and fluent in english. We didn't eat breakfast as it wasn't a part of the price, but it really should when you pay this price, since the city is expensive for food if you're eating à la français. The service was nice and the rooms are super big for a family or party of four, generous space, you couldn't do any better elsewhere for space or authentic provincial experience. The comfort is unparalleled even in comparison to other larger hotels that charge more per night. However the breakfast price seemed a bit steep, so just weigh that in with the choice.
