7 Cities and Towns for Discovering the Real South of France

"Hôtel Le Garage is a former garage transformed into a stylish boutique hotel. The 27 rooms and suites have vintage touches, like geometric wallpaper, midcentury furniture, and stainless steel soaking tubs, with warm woods and terrazzo accents—'neo-retro,' as they call it."

Just back from a week long stay in Le Garage. What a lovely place to stay. The hotel is situated in a really lovely part of Biarritz surrounded by amazing homes! It is a 15 minute walk along the promenade into the centre and a 30 minute walk to the old port which is well worth visiting if you enjoy fresh fish on the waters edge. |We ate in chez Albert a couple of evenings and it never disappointed and had several gorgeous lunches at casa Juan Pedro! |But the food in Le Garage is also wonderful. We enjoyed many very pleasurable breakfasts and although we didn’t have dinner there the menu looked lovely and we heard great reports of the fine food. |The hotel is quirky with a really lovely welcoming vibe. It is spotlessly clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our time there. We felt very comfortable and would highly recommend it. |However it would be remiss of me not to mention the wonderful staff. They are a very young crew who have a very pleasant and relaxed manner. Everyone we encountered was lovely but I would like to give a special mention to Mathilda (barista extraordinaire), Rosalie with her beautiful smile and Maya who was so kind and mature in her approach. Thank you all for a lovely experience.

Loved La Garage! We had a beautiful room upstairs with a huge balcony and sunset view of the ocean. What a surprise! Breakfast was great with nice variety and very cool decor in the dining room. We used the Regina pool one day which is better than the pool at the Garage. It’s s great luxury to sit poolside at Regina but go back to Garage for a fun vibe and amazing room! And guests at Garage can use it for free. Staff were nice and helpful.

Amazing staff, location and service. It was a terrific stay for our family of 3 (14yo son). We easily walked to the beach, restaurants and shopping. We will definitely be back.

Great value for money ! very chill yet high standard hotel with superb breakfast. only call out: Pool is just next street which tends to be a bit noisy with traffic passing by great walking distance to city and beach + food options very close and on site

I think this might be my favorite hotel in France. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and quiet. I was here for 5 nights and the staff were lovely to deal with. The food was quite good too. I would definitely stay here again.

This review is based on the dinning experience and not in the hotel stay, but with such a lack of professionalism from the food and beverage part, I am certainly not consider a place to stay. Customer service would be 0 out of 5. It is alarming to me to have places like this to be as rated 4 stars.|Kitchen it was 8 of us. Order probably half of the menus, including couple of special. No highlight nor anything that standout. But croque monsieur basque sent as toasted bread with a slice of cheese and ham so dried that it felt like biting in a crouton sandwich. Four items were never delivered to our table. Ordered entrees when arrived to table to deliver few dishes were missing, response to the young manager/ supervisor- the kitchen run out?!?!|We were two family both French my friend living locally - him was invited back for a complementary my family lives overseas nothing. We paid. This is how the evening ended the same way as we paid and leave.

Second time for us on this hotel. We stayed 2 days. The rooms are nice and the personnel really takes care of you. The only drawback was that the restaurant had a limited service. You can charge your EV for free in the parking (the parking costs 30€ per day).

I really wanted to like this property! I was traveling with my puppy and booked a ground floor room with a terrace. I thought the name was a cute homage to the history of the place, but, no the ambience is dark, claustrophobic and uninviting, much like sleeping in a garage I guess (or a 70s roadside motel back in the day before they became "hip," fun and functional). There was grey/black carpet in the darkly painted hallway, with poor lighting that leads to the rooms. The room itself had a low ceiling with the worst hotel lighting I have experienced in the last 15 years. Despite turning on every light in the room, I could not see what I had packed or what my puppy immediately found on the floor (yikes!) without using my phone flashlight. The "terrace" was covered in astroturf and surrounded by ivy. I was there in low season, and the rate was 200 euros for the night, I can't imagine being their "en plein saison" and paying more. I ended up going to the (clean, nicely lit) hotel across the street despite having already paid for the room. The reception associate didn't offer any remedy to the situation (perhaps a different room, an additional light besides my phone, etc) or any sort of compensation for the poorly designed room. Oh well.
