Hôtel le Lion d'Or

My mother and I stayed here after reading a blog that it is *the* place to stay in Cauterets and they were not wrong. The room was clean with mountain vibes, the bathroom featured lovely custom tile. The service from the entire family was top notch. I knew they served breakfast with homemade items, but didn't realize they offer a prix fixe dinner menu as well, which was both delicious and convenient. We came early in the season and many shops and restaurants were still closed, plus it was nice to just pop downstairs after a long day of hiking. Another delightful surprise were the tortoises that live on the patio, which were charming to watch. We very much enjoyed the hotel and would absolutely stay again.

This is an old fashioned hotel which has been modernized and run by a family. I found it charming but a bit dated. The rooms were big and like suites. The service was amazing by the owner and her nephew. They gave us some nice sandwiches for our hike. Breakfast was excellent and the dinner was also good. We didn’t much care for the pork main dish. I would have preferred to stay on the main floor as it was inconvenient to go around to the patio for access to our room on the first floor. It was a convenient place to stay for our stay in Cauterets.

Truly magnificent!! Beautiful old style hotel, very very comfortable beds and nice clean room. We arrived late but they were very relaxed about it. The breakfast was incredible as well, very tasty, many options and homemade. The service was incredible too, we felt very welcome. Highly recommended! Merci beaucoup.

Had a really pleasant stay for four nights in early July. The hotel is very charming and recently updated. After a long day of hiking, I enjoyed a nice shower in the beautiful bathroom and a delicious dinner in the homey dining room. The bed was also very comfortable to sleep in. Thomas and his family paid close attention to my gluten-free diet, and made sure that all my meals were GF. Thomas also gave great advice for hiking paths, and I got to see some of the best sceneries that the Pyrenees have to offer. Many thanks Thomas! I already recommended this hotel to friends and will definitely visit again when I return to this region in the future.

This is a great hotel! Our room was clean, and the hotel was very quiet and peaceful. The food was great - I highly recommend making a reservation for dinner one night at the hotel. It is in a central location in Cauterets (though the town is not big) - easy to get to and from the gare. Would stay here again if I was in the area.

Very quaint classic hotel with friendly English speaking staff. Our room was large with a nice sitting area, but the cleanliness left something to be desired. The towel stack was disordered enough we had to do a close inspection to figure out if the towels were new/clean or not. There was a surprising amount of hair on the heated towel rack, and mold/mildew on the center of the shower wall that looked like it should have been very easy to remove during cleaning. Location is great right in the center of Cauterets

Lovely characterful hotel with individual modern and traditional touches right in the centre of town. It has a beautiful courtyard, where 6 tortoises were roaming free eating their dinner of dandelion leaves. We sat outside in the evening to play cards. Breakfast was great and service very friendly. We ate out in the town as we needed veggie options, but the dining room looked popular. Free parking in the street above the hotel, if it's full be patient and hang around as a spot came free quite soon.

Loved this hotel. It has great character, lovely staff and excellent food.
