Hôtel Le Marcel Paris Gare de l'Est, a Design Boutique Hotel Paris, France

"The Hotel Marcel is a beautiful home away from home in the heart of Paris. When you arrive at the hotel you will notice how it stands out, striking and unique amongst the other buildings on the street. The hotel prides itself on keeping that sense of awe as you step inside and offers guests a calm, tranquil bubble in which to rest, sleep and relax away from the vibrancy of the French Capital.Perfect for both tourists and businessmen and women alike the Marcel boasts only 28 rooms, which means that guests will feel looked after and well catered for. Chic, generously sized and contemporary these rooms truly reflect the Parisian style. With neutral white décor, expensive linen and towels, sparkling en suite bathrooms and high end luxury complementary toiletries from Madeleine, what more could you ask for?The hotel pays homage to Michael Proust who was a French novelist critic and essayist, best known for his famous book À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time). The décor is avant-garde and sophisticated and is the work of designer Claudia Del Bubba who was also highly acclaimed for her work on the restaurant within the Eiffel Tower. The friendly team at the Marcel are on hand to ensure guests have a wonderful stay at the hotel and are happy to cater to your every need. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area which is the pretty quartier de Gare de l'Est, where you will find many charming boutiques for all your shopping needs. The Opera, the Eiffel Tower, and the stunning Louvre gallery are also all within easy reach of the hotels doorstep." - My Boutique Hotel

Everything was perfect. I don’t understand the complaints in the other reviews. There was genuinely nothing wrong with our stay. Staff was so nice, room was spotless and spacious enough, view out our window was incredible. No complaints whatsoever. Location was arguably the best part as its steps away from the subway and train station.

Good experience rated as 4 stars hotel.. booked a junior suite for this and good for families stay.. Overall experience is great. Do not be deceive or put off by the small main door. At the main door, press the bell and reception will let you in (security purpose). Once in, take the lift to level 1 for checking in. Check in is fast as all was done online. Only had to pay the local tax with credit card. Room has everything we need to refresh and sleep for the night. The junior suite on 7th floor with good view of the train station and wonderful morning view. Quality continental Breakfast; we had what we need. Coffee, orange juice, milk, eggs, croissants, Nutella and fruits. Others; Nearby to MacDonald, Burger King, Japanese food, few other restaurants and mini mart. Some downsides One of the few lights in the bath room is not working. Can feel and hear the floor when walking in the room. (Not affecting the overall)

I would rate this between 3-4 (average to very good). The hotel is ideally located close to Gare Du Nord (a ten minute walk) and across from Gare d l’est. There is also a metro stop right outside. You have to buzz the door to get inside every time, having a key work on the door would be better. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our bags as we arrived before check in and the hotel helpfully had them placed in our room for when we checked in. There is no actual baggage room (that I was aware of) so I did not leave personal items. The rooms were nice and the bed was very comfy. They weren’t the biggest but I found it had enough room for us to walk around. The shampoo and shower gel were refilled on a daily basis. A kettle or coffee machine in the room would have been ideal. The walls were quite thin and we could hear banging in the room above us. The location itself didn’t have the best feel about it but we never felt unsafe. There was a supermarket just next to the hotel. Overall we had a nice stay here and the location was good for access to the metro to get us where we needed to go.

Stayed 1 night here for the location. Overall experience is acceptable. We arrived and checked in about 9pm. The main door to the hotel was .. awww… small door. Press the door bell and was answered immediately. Take the Lift up to first floor for check in. The male reception was very friendly and check in was a swift. First look into the room was pleasant and clean. Bath room with bathtub with basic amenities. Shower 🚿.. need to push the bottom button in before turning on the tap. Water is warm and strong. Breakfast space is small but cozy and food spread is what you can expect in every where in Paris. Do check with the staff for the least people to come down for breakfast. I went at 0730am and I was the first. By 8am the crowd came and I was out of there. Overall experience. Wonderful. Photos as it is. Ps: excuse the messy room photo as taken before leaving.

Had the worst experience. Reception staff is arrogant and rude with no sense of customer service. They lie all the time to make excuses for not doing things, pinning blame on colleagues from previous shift. Despite filling up a pre arrival survey, twin beds were not setup and they argued about it. We were asked to get out of room because they are scared of being in room with us, how insulting. AC wasn't working and we were told it will be looked at in morning, reception staff has no knowledge of operating it. After some argument, they turned on central ac which was switched off. I have more such examples. Avoid avoid, there are much better hotels in Paris. An finally, its not 4 star as advertised, doesn't deserve more than two.

My wife Sandra and I stayed here three nights. The staff were very pleasant and the room was nice. We were on the sixth floor but there was still a certain amount of "Saturday night" street noise that still managed to find it's way up. There was also a very annoying creaking sound coming from the floor boards overhead which at times also contributed to the noise level. Breakfast was nice and there was a good selection ranging from fresh fruit to scrambled eggs and sausages. The croissants and jams were particularly good. Overall, it is a very pleasant small hotel which is a three minute walk to the Gare de L'Est station. It is also located in an area close to some nice restaurants.

We greatly recommend this hotel, as you get very good quality for a reasonable price. Hotel rooms were always clean, we had street view room, for a solo trip or a couple this is a perfect choice. Breakfast was standard continental, variety of pastries, scrambled eggs, sausages, vegetables, fruit and ham and cheese. You can choose 2 juice options, coffee or tea. As for the location, the metro station is right around the corner and the 3 metro lines can get you quickly to the inner center. The hotel staff was welcoming and they can speak English as well which very great for us. Overall we are very satisfied with our stay.

The shower was broken and the water was plugged. Minibar was not functioning. One night, it took 5-10 minutes (4 calls) to finally got the hotel door opened by the staff. Maybe she was afraid of strangers but there is a camera on the intercom and she could have asked me some questions to confirm my identity rather than ignoring my calls. It is definitely not the hotel that I'll recommend to my colleagues.

Yelp
We booked this hotel for one night via booking.com as it had fairly good reviews and the price was right. I didn't realize when I booked it that it was really close to Gare du Nord. Only a 5 minute walk! That was a truly serendipitous choice of a hotel. We arrived in Paris via the Eurostar train from London and we were super tired and overwhelmed by all the hustle and bustle of Gare du Nord, but we were happy to learn that the hotel was very close to this station. We looked at my iPhone's maps app and it showed us how to get there. The hotel's sign is small, so it was kind of hard to spot from the street. It's right next to the much bigger Grande Hôtel des Voyageurs and across the street from the Yummy Asian Food restaurant. The reception is on the 1st floor (2nd floor if you're from the U.S.), so you'll have to take the tiny elevator or walk a flight of stairs. The elevator is too small for comfort, so we chose the stairs. The reception staff was really friendly and nice, and spoke English very well. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite on the 3rd floor without extra cost and he said that we could help ourselves to anything in the mini-bar for free. He also let us borrow their adapter since we forgot to bring one from the States and we needed to charge our phones. Thank God for being upgraded to a bigger room! We had a living room where we could sit and leave our luggage open. The bathroom wasn't too bad, except that the shower was kinda small. The bed was really comfortable! It wasn't too soft or too firm. Our suite was very clean and had a lot of windows which open up and give you a view of the other apartments and hotel rooms in the square. The location of the hotel is a mix of good and not so good. The good--close to Gare du Nord, across from the Gare de L'Est, close to the Canal Saint-Martin, close to a lot of inexpensive "ethnic" restaurants, and stores like Monoprix. The not so good--not the most fashionable part of Paris and far from tourist sites. My only complaint about the hotel is the wi-fi. We could not access it from our phones or iPads. They have two networks and we could not log in to either one of them. We told the reception staff and all he said was that that happens sometimes. :( The hotel offers breakfast for 8€ for a petit-dejeuner or 15€ for a larger breakfast. We did not have breakfast as we had to leave early and walk back to Gare du Nord to pick up our rental car for the next phase of our trip. You can eat a cheaper breakfast outside if you want to save some Euros. Not sure if we'll stay here again. The room was nice and the staff was very friendly, but not being able to access the wi-fi is a dealbreaker.

Yelp
Pros: Nice hotel inside and our room was everything we needed. Staff was very helpful. Cons: neighborhood is a little rough after midnight. Plan on being in your room by then. Also, our TV was out the last 24 hours of our stay. Would recommend to friends though!

Yelp
The staff was wonderful and the room was small but very nice. The breakfast was nice and everything was really pleasant. The air condition worked wonderfully, which was great, because it was super hot outside. The hotel is very close to the train station. The location is very convenient, but the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, so I wouldn't wander about there at night.
