An Autumnal Road Trip Through Alsace Wine Country

"With two nights in Colmar, treat yourself to a stay at luxurious Hotel le Maréchal. The building itself was constructed in 1565, but the romantic vibes persist to today. Pro tip: when booking, request a room with a canal view."

The location could not be better. It was a 15 minute walk from the train station and the center of town was just around the corner from the hotel. The room was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. I was very impressed with the staff; they had a room available for me even though I arrived early. The outside bar was the perfect way to end the day. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in the “Wagner” room and we like it very much. The room was spacious and had a lovely view over the canal.Yes, the hotel is old(but full of charm) and there is no lift, however, we did not mind the stairs and we find it really clean. The breakfast was in a very nice veranda, not a very big variety of things, but enough.Coffee and croissants were good, they even offer the local sparkling wine. What we did not like was that some noise was coming from the room upstairs, like opening drawers and walking, also the main door was a little hard to close and open(because of the carpet, i guess, and that made the handle a little flimsy). Also the lady at the reception could be a little more warm/smiley/friendly?she was very dry.

We really enjoyed our stay here even though it was cold and rainy. Loan (front desk concierge) was super knowledgable and helpful. Great customer service! The restaurant is a must try. We were immediately seated once we arrived and the food/service was fantastic. The location is perfectly placed. It’s easily walkable to everything in Petite Venice. The bar is great. Great cocktails, atmosphere and customer service.

Ratings are relative, admittedly. Good choices in Colmar are very very limited, so you have to take what’s available. Service is very friendly, atmosphere, well, a bit dated and musty, hotels in Colmar don’t need to work hard to get guests, and that’s very obvious. Between historic furniture and appeal, cheap materialized renovations and plastic furniture is what you will experience. Nonetheless seems a good choice if you stay in Colmar, great location.

It is full of history and the hotel is an art. Old mansion style hotel that the breakfast is a must where you can expect fine dining environment. Highly recommended but do not carry heavy luggage or oversize luggage due to narrow staircase between room or a very small elevator while to expect to walk stairs one after another to reach your room. But the strategic location and scenery is super amazing and walking distance to railway station approx less than 700m and easily access to a few sight seeing villages by grab from the hotel. Recommended that Colmar and this hotel is an antic to visit.

We love Colmar and this hotel is in a great location. It has a charming courtyard and the best and best located breakfast of our whole holiday. But the annexe is tbh not great. Bit bog-standard and not at the level of the main hotel rooms. Shame as it wouldn’t take much: chairs in the courtyard; easier access; some attempt to make it prettier. Might not book again if that’s all that on offer.

Triple room is on top. Not handicapped accessible by any means but my kids and dogs enjoyed the climb to the top. Room was nice. Locstion was good for walking and Luckly we found a parking spot in front so was convenient My only complaint was the 20£ breakfast was not worth it. 150+ night a year in hotels around the world for the last 15 years and have good judge of breakfast. It was barely equal to a free US hotel breakfast. I wouldn't have paid if I say it beforehand. Outside of that, I'm happy for choosing the hotel and would again.

Trust the bad reviews!!! The room smelled horribly of mold and I fear it to be a potential trigger for respiratory issues. The staff was unwilling to do anything and told us if we want to leave we can. We took them up on their offer and left. We found a last minute Airbnb at 8PM right around the corner that was of far higher quality and more accommodating staff all for 100 euros cheaper. The male front desk clerk was very nice and sympathetic but the hotel managements unwillingness to accommodate anything was offputting and not worthy of a 4 star hotel. I would not visit here again.

Yelp
Our room was comfortable, the staff friendly, and the location great. But we were disappointed that our room, one of the more expensive options available, did not have a view. And it was a VERY long walk up many flights of stairs to get to our room. We picked one of the more expensive rooms - a room with a jacuzzi - and it did not have a view. You could see a parking lot out a window, but that is not a view. The hotel does not advertise this room, if you look at our type of room on the website, you won't see it. And we were under the impression that we had booked a room with a view. Overall, that was very frustrating. Not as big of a deal, but carrying all our suitcases up the very long and windy passageway to get to our room sucked. It was a total of about four stairwells, and some of them were pretty long. When the receptionist offered to help said there are stairs, they did not clarify what "there are stairs" meant. "There are stairs" was a huge understatement. These issues were not the biggest deal in the world, because the room was very well decorated and pleasant to stay in. In other words, while I do not consider these issues really acceptable, I still enjoyed my stay here very much. And the jacuzzi was very nice. But I probably would not stay here again. Great location, and I'm sure some of the rooms have amazing views, but there are a lot of other great looking hotels in Colmar - I do not feel as though I need to come back to this one.

Beautiful views out of our quaint room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Perfect, central location.

Yelp
Lame, small, nothing happens as you hope it wil, and although we were in their biggest suite, there was never enough room for me to move around, except at the foot of the bed. I have been waiting nearly 30 minutes trying to check out. They brought down our luggage, but only half of it,and our luggage has perishables in it that need refrigeration. Some staff are quite good but the bad ones take it down a bigger notch than the good ones bring it up. It was awful noisy from road repairs nearby. A mechanized jackhammer tearing out stone pavement. Conveniently located to places we wanted to go, but the ancient edifice just cannot offer what a reasonable 21st century traveler requires. Lugging our luggage from the taxi to the entrance on arrival and in reverse on departure was ONEROUS. Not recommended.

Yelp
Wow, this is very likely the best hotel my husband and I have ever stayed at. This is an historic hotel with beautiful half-timbered features on the inside and outside of the building, yet the inside has been remodeled recently with completely modern features (and AC!). We checked in early and the staff was very accommodating, helpful, and friendly. The room was perfect with high-end amenities and comfortable bed. The location of the hotel is also perfect, as it is right in the center of everything yet set aside enough that we don't hear constant traffic or pedestrians. Finally, the breakfast-- get the breakfast. There was such a huge variety of delicious European foods (much of it local), that I wish I had the appetite to eat a sample of everything. We are so happy with our stay here and hope to come back again!

Yelp
Excellent dinner. All the food was very delicious, great presentation with excellent service. The one review I saw with one star obviously comes from a complete idiot.
