5 Most Stylish Boutique Hotels in Switzerland - AFAR

"Set in a charming 17th-century residence, this refined property pairs traditional Swiss architecture—exposed beams, stone walls and vaulted cellars—with warm colors, contemporary furniture and marble bathrooms. Long regarded as one of the city’s most storied hotels, it has hosted prominent figures such as John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton. Its on-site restaurant, known for Swiss specialties like raclette and fondue, has become a local landmark, and the hotel’s prime Old Town location places Lake Geneva, St. Peter’s Cathedral and shopping on Place du Bourg-de-Four within easy walking distance." - AFAR

Hôtel Les Armures (Geneva, Switzerland) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Situated in the heart of the old town, this 17C residence has a certain charm. It has old stone walls and wooden beams, as well as some superb painted ceilings. It is also intimate, romantic and resolutely contemporary in style. Offering a completely different atmosphere, the restaurant is an authentic tavern serving raclettes and fondues." - Tablet Hotels

What a treasure of a hotel! Its location is perfect to tour the old town of Geneva. We stepped outside the front door, looked to the right, and there was St. Pierre's! It was the meeting point for our Calvin Tour of the Reformation. |Restaurants abound; the one associated with the hotel is the oldest one in Geneva and is fabulous. Reservations are highly recommended either for a mid-day meal or for the evening. Inside tables create a more relaxed atmosphere as a path used by tours goes through the middle of the exterior tables.|Our room was spotlessly clean and offered lots of hanging space for our clothes plus a closet of shelves for everything else. The front desk staff could not have been more helpful and efficient. We had failed to get a Swiss adapter for our stay; we are so used to using our adapters in France. The hotel loaned us a couple and saved the day. The price for the room was high, but Geneva is a very expensive city. |The two lobbies are perfect for relaxation. Coffee and tea are always available and the front desk personnel will order drinks from the adjacent restaurant.

Lovely boutique hotel, on a quiet square, just a couple blocks from the lake. I booked through hotels.com and got a weird email, as we boarded our flight to Geneva, saying that we were handling my cancellation request. This threw me into a bit of a panic, since I hadn't requested a cancellation! I quickly emailed the hotel, literally as the plane was taking off, and had no idea if we would have a room, when we arrived. Not only did the hotel respond to me, but they were expecting us when we arrived, knew who we were and immediately assured me that our reservation was in place. They then showed us to two different rooms and gave us our choice, which I appreciated because I definitely preferred the room that they recommended. We arrived early in the am, hours before the 3 pm check in, but they offered us a free breakfast and suggested that we wait, while they prepared our room. Check-in was at 3, but we were in our room by 10:30 am, despite the fact that I never requested any special accomodations! The room was charming with lots of historic character, but was VERY comfortable and quiet, with excellent a/c. The lobby has a lovely seating area and a bar with snacks, tea water... Perhaps I'm wrong, but the bar was unattended and seemed to be open and free to guests all day and night. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. I would 100% book this hotel again, if we return to Geneva.

What a charming boutique hotel experience in Old Town!!! Such a lovely central location right in the middle of Old Town. We loved being in a quaint, historic French village instead of the surrounding modern city. The front desk staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful, communicative, and responsive to all your needs and requests via email. They sent me a free transportation pass for all public transportation in Geneva which was really useful. Breakfast was a highlight for me, with a beautiful buffet display. You can tell it’s a 5 star hotel when the smoked salmon is crafted into a rose! The fruits were all so fresh and sweet as well. It was really hot when we visited, and we had previously stayed at CitizenM in Zurich where the air conditioning was a joke. Luckily, the air conditioning here at Les Armures was much more efficient! I would definitely return to this cute hotel if I’m ever in Geneva again :)

This is a beautiful hotel! We loved every minute of our stay at Hôtel les Armures. The building has so much old-word charm but has also been incredibly updated. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming and the location is perfect for exploring Vieux Genève. I hope to stay again in the future!

Disappointed by Unwelcoming Service My family has a home just around the corner from this hotel, and I decided to walk over this morning after hearing good things about their breakfast. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a gentleman at the front desk. Since I don’t speak French, he quickly identified me as an American and informed me that the restaurant was reserved exclusively for hotel guests. It was a disappointing experience. I had hoped to enjoy a nice meal and support a local business, but it seems my presence—and my money—weren’t welcome. Hospitality should extend beyond just those staying the night.

We have only just returned from a 7 night stay, and we had a wonderful time. Geneva was fantastic, with plenty to do for a week if you get out and about on trains and boats - it's a beautiful spot with everything the lake offers. But this review is about the hotel, and, in summary, the only word I can come up with is exemplary: the location is perfect, the staff provide as good service as I've received in any hotel around the world, the facilities are all to a high standard, the bedrooms are excellent (well designed with nice touches), great mattress, excellent breakfast with a really good selection of hot and cold food, plus the restaurant was top level (great food and service - perfect for the special birthday I was celebrating.) We also had a small (well behaved) dog with us, and the hotel made her feel very welcome. There was also no extra charge for the dog which is unusual for hotels in my experience. Special mention to the lady who manned the breakfast room. Her service was perfect, welcoming us each morning, making sure we had all we wanted, and making sure we had a corner table for us with the dog. Nothing was any trouble - made a great start to each day at the hotel 😀

The hotel was in the old town right next to the cathedral. Location was perfect with lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. The room was designed well with plenty of storage and seating. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel provided a delicious breakfast bar and Nespresso in the room! Very lovely stay. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful! Staff is wonderful, very welcoming & attentive. David is a 10! We had drinks in the hotels private bar and enjoyed people watching. Our room was beautiful, bed beyond comfortable, amenities 5 star!

Yelp
For an unexpected trip to Genève, Switzerland,I don't think I could of asked for anything more than to stay at the Hotel les Armures. Not knowing much of this area, it is situated in old town and within walking distance from many shops and restaurants, plus to hear the bells of the Cathedral Saint-Pierre. If you don't mind walking this hotel was a great place to stay, with being blocks away from Lake Geneva and is tucked away in a quieter area of the city. Enjoyable time.

Yelp
Incredible fondue! My girlfriend (who turned into my fiancée the next day) and I absolutely loved the fondue. We were blown away by how good it was. We tried other fondue at other establishments after this and were sorely disappointed. This definitely set a new standard! More than this, though, was how touched I was by the friendly service...including a waiter who politely informed a rather, um, "vocal" guest at another table that yes, interracial couples like my SO and I are, in fact, welcome at the establishment. The best part was that the waiter did this before he realized that I spoke French and that I had followed the exchange between him and the other fellow. It showed me that they would have been respectful and welcoming no matter whether a guest had been offended or not. That, indeed, is a sign of a truly welcoming establishment. We had a great dinner and an epic fondue, but this sort of consideration and care puts this even higher on our list of places to recommend. Thank you very much to the kind wait staff who did this not out of any embarrassment or direction from us, but out of their strong moral conviction and sense of inclusiveness!

Yelp
Great service, very friendly, wonderfully polite and very Swiss! I was delighted to check in to this little gem hotel in Old Geneva! Very civilized and service oriented, with old school keys you return to the front desk when you leave. I immediately was thrilled to find this is a smoke free hotel, which is fantastic as smoking is quite popular in Switzerland and avoiding it can be difficult. I did notice a large lab checking on, so pet friendly? Upon check in, they were friendly and we slipped between French and English and it was all good- no awkwardness. I dined in the restaurant, but then hurried back- I have a fantastic bathtub and glorious room, comfortable bed. You cant go wrong here.

Yelp
I come here often with friends. Good food, good location, and friendly service. One of the reasons we like coming here is that this place has a good selection of food other than fondue. Good place for a group of friends to enjoy a nice dinner in Geneva.

Yelp
I live in NYC visiting my mother who lives in Geneva. This hotel ruined our afternoon today with its doorman's rudeness, arrogance, and disrespect. A luxury hotel should not have staff like this man. We were walking in the old town enchanted by its' history and allure. My mother suddenly started to feel nauseous and this hotel was the closest building near by. We walked in, and asked if she could use the bathroom. It was an emergency and we would have payed for the bathroom or bought something at the hotel's restaurant if that is a requirement. The doorman, (dark haired, in his thirties) was standing alone in the hallway. He just made a dismissing gesture with his hand and spit out in French: "For the toilette, you need to go elsewhere". This man said this to my mother, who is over 50 years old, well dressed, and the kindest person ever...Luckily, the restaurant near by had no issues with her using their restroom...This hotel portrayed a poor image and showed the total the lack of hospitality. They should revise how they train their staff, and make sure to not down-talk to potential clients or to anyone else.

Yelp
How can this hotel claim to be 5 star ? There are zero amenities - no spa or gym , no hotel bar / lounge, one local restaurant that is so-so and has terrible service. The check in was nothing notable - no info offered at all. The room is small and I am currently listening to a screaming child through a very thin wall. Worst hotel for the price I have ever visited and I frequent 4/5 star hotels often. This is a 3 star at best.

Yelp
Everything was quite aceptable except for the maitre. I think he ranked our group low when he saw us checking the prices of the menu to decide if it did fit our budget. Then he placed us in the farthest outdoor table, refusing to place us indoor as we wished despite of the obvious empty tables. He said they were all reserved. Very unkind. The rest was good. The waiter was kind and understanding, and very efficient, as we didnt notice that the place did get gradually crowded. This said, I think they should get more workers. We had fondue, and it was good. We had the house open wine, because The bottles of wine started at 40+ swiss francs. It was not bad and was reasonably priced at 4 SF the glass. When the bill came there were no surprises and everything went as expected. Because I think a restaurant is not only abour food, but also about creating a graceful and warm atmosphere for the guests I give it only three stars.

Yelp
On a business trip to Geneva and did a quick look up of a good Fondue place and found the NYT had done a review. So I was expecting a bit of a tourist trap, but my co-worker and I walked into a rather nice restaurant. In the middle of Old Town Geneva, it is, as the name suggest, connected with Hotel Les Armures. But, if you are in that area anyway, exploring, this place makes for a great dinner! Servers were friendly and helpful, although the one we had did not speak a lot of english, she understood my elementary French. The fondue was tasty. We got a pot of the Fondue avec Herbs, which was very good. I also got a plate of the dried meat, also very tasty. (I had fondue subsequently at a couple of other places and I enjoyed this place the most) As we neared the bottom of the fondue pot, I knew that the crusty cheese that had burned onto the bottom was 'extra' good and made a weak attempt to scrape it off. Not wanting to damage the pot, I gave up. Our waitress came by and looked at it and said, i think "that's the best part" and quickly grabbed my knife and quite vigorously scrapped the bottom, releasing the golden cheesey goodness! Pear tart for dessert and the dinner was perfect. The suit of Armor for decoration was pretty cool too! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went there for dinner at the recommendation of local people we met on a lake cruise and we liked it so much that we went back a second night. It's attached to the Hotel Les Armures (the Suits of Armor) and the outside eating area occupies the better part of an alley, next to the old arsenal. The restaurant manages to be very good, relatively inexpensive and unpretentious at the same time, although it's in a tony area of the Old Town. The menu is extensive, the service expert and friendly. We went there for their Raclette and Rosti, although it comes highly recommended for Fondue as well. In my humble opinion, Fondue is best relegated to the 70s and kept there. Back to Les Armures. The local wine selection is very good, their Rosti was stellar, the Raclette was good. I was disappointed to see it served in a plain china boat rather than in the customary cast iron pan. Nevertheless, it was eaten down to the bottom of the plate. Of their other offerings, we had a very good lasagna, a grilled veggie plate that ranked among the best, a roast beef platter presented just so and a Peach Melba which did justice to its name. Would heartily recommend it as a must-do in Geneva.
