I stayed a few years back and would return again. I've stayed in a few hotels around Paris and this is probably my favorite thus far although there are things I'd like to have improved. Upon a first look, it seems just about impossible to think of any improvement. This place (at least a few years ago) is so polished, well decorated and the attention to detail (in aesthetics) is top notch, totally on point. The lobby and sitting area, the rooms and hallways, the breakfast room.. there is no area I noticed that was overlooked or seemed like it had been 'left behind' in the decorating department. For me, the aesthetic and quality of my environment is important. I think they've nailed it in terms of offering a beautiful hotel with a luxurious feeling at a more affordable price and with a small, boutique setting.
My room was small-ish, which is standard in Paris but it worked just fine. The gorgeous factor was through the roof! It was in a soft palette, with light blues, greens and pinks in what I think is a Louis XIV or XVI style. Impracticalities arose a few times- I needed to iron a few instances and that was tough. Also, I hunted to find enough plug outlets in the right places (near mirrors and with a surface to set something on). The bathroom however was sort of enormous for Parisian standards- I loved it. A beautiful console sink allowed me to prepare without getting water all over the floor (as many budget hotels have minuscule sinks which leave water splashing all over the place). I could take a bath and shower as well! I was disappointed that they put me in the back of the hotel facing an inner light well/ space between this hotel and adjacent buildings; it wasn't necessary as the hotel wasn't anywhere near booked up. I'm not sure why, but I wish they would have discounted the price for this. I didn't have much of a view and for someone visiting Paris, it would have been nice to look out of my room and see PARIS.
When I engaged one of the gentlemen working the front desk (I believe he was from Morocco originally), he was very nice and helpful with superb English. Also, a woman working in the breakfast room was very sweet even though English wasn't strong for her; I appreciated her helpfulness and willingness to help me even though I couldn't speak French. Speaking of breakfast, I was impressed with the quality of each item- butter, cream, milk, bread, eggs from certain small farms and organic was indicated which matters to me. I thought the prices were about fair for a breakfast although the hotel I previously stayed at had a much nicer and wider variety of breakfast for the price, a beautiful room and they also ran specials in which breakfast was included. Some of the other employees and a woman I was told was one of the managers seemed curt and cold, not friendly to me while I was waiting in the lobby to be helped.
All in all, I would return and hope to find it just as charming as before, maybe more as some of these small issues have hopefully been ironed out. Other pluses are the short walking distance to a Metro stop and so many other neighborhoods and sights. This hotel is in a great location- I felt safe walking around, it was quiet and in a clean part of the city. It would be fun to try different styles of rooms and different floors, hopefully facing the Pantheon or a nicer view next time, and with a little balcony.
Thank you HDDP for my lovely stay and positive experience.. I love the beauty of this little gem box.
