Forget Skiing, Visit the French Alps to Drink Wine

"An elegant new boutique hotel in Tresserve with rooms, a bar, restaurant, pool and terrace hot tub all facing the lake; its terrace proved an atmospheric spot for sipping sparkling, citrusy local Crémant while watching the water change color at sunset, with attentive, carefully masked staff." - Nina Caplan

Hotel L'Incomparable is a beautiful hotel set in a wonderfully tranquil setting and the staff were delightful polite and extremely friendly ,however our room was tiny with terrible views and no walk in shower, one had to step over into the bath and hope not to slip as there was no slip mat .We felt that Hotel residents were considered secondary to diners in the Michelin star restaurant ,We ate in the restaurant the first night and it was very nice but found there was only one menu available that was no problem initially as we were out for dinner the following 2 nights .On our last night (Monday) the main restaurant was closed ,we had to eat lunch on the terrace under an umbrella in the rain because we were not allowed to eat inside although the rooms were empty and we were also prevented from having a night cap on the terrace or anywhere else , we were only allowed to eat and drink in our tiny room (without a table and only one chair) .We tried to reason with the restaurant/bar staff they really didn't care they were adamant they couldn't help and were happy to see us eat elsewhere I told him I had paid over £450 per night to stay here, and this is just not good enough however nothing changed. We ordered salads (lunch)they were made and delivered by a loverly friendly guy and were tasty enough but were swimming with a liquid and oil not what one would call restaurant quality let alone Micheline. I voiced my comments to reception staff and they were very sympathetic and understanding but it appears the Owners /Management consider the needs of the restaurant over the hotel, and it certainly showed. We have stayed in many hotels worldwide I can honestly say this is the worst for customer service we have ever experienced we were certainly considered an inconvenience; the needs of the restaurant came first we will certainly will not be returning or recommending which is a great pity.

We recently stayed at this 5-star hotel and, in many ways, it lived up to expectations. The property itself is absolutely stunning — both inside and out. The views over the lake were breathtaking, and our room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh fruit and plenty of choice. I also ordered two poached eggs from the hot selection, which amusingly arrived on two separate plates, each with toast but no garnish — a slightly odd presentation, but it did make us smile. However, there were some disappointing aspects to our stay. On arrival, we were told the outdoor pool was open and offering food and drinks, but when we went down we found it closed with no service available. The explanation was that there had been a storm the day before — though on the day itself the sun was shining, so this felt like a missed opportunity. Later, we also discovered that the main restaurant was closed for the entire day (apparently standard on Mondays), which is unusual for a hotel of this level. To the hotel’s credit, the new owner — who had only been in charge for a week — did step in and arrange for the pool to be opened, and allowed us to order paninis. While the gesture was appreciated, the price of €25 for a simple cheese panini was hard to justify. For dinner, we were given access to the room service menu, but the options were extremely limited: paninis again, an omelette, or a chicken Caesar salad — no fries, no burgers, nothing you might expect from a 5-star dining menu. Adding to this, when we asked for a cocktail at the bar — specifically an espresso martini — we were told they didn’t have the ingredients. Again, not what you would expect from a hotel that markets itself at this level. Overall, the hotel has great potential, and with its stunning setting and beautiful design, it could be outstanding. But at the moment, the lack of reliable dining options, limited bar service, and the inconsistencies in what is promised versus delivered mean it falls short of the true 5-star experience.

Three highlights: the staff, the restaurant and the amazing view. All superb. The chef crafted us two superb vegetarian tasting menus just for us and they were truly sublime. Opening the curtains to the amazing view over the lake each morning was a delight. The staff were without exception helpful and friendly, especially Christelle at the pool bar who was beyond amazing as a host. Everything was spotlessly clean and the pool water fabulous. Although why some guests thought it acceptable to make noisy video calls from in the pool itself is a mystery. The only downsides were that the toilet was relatively distant from the bathroom yet had no wash hand basin in it, which was not hygienic. The only other issue was being directly above the hot tub, meaning that some loud guests disrupted the other wise deep peace of our balcony.

For the high price we paid, the overall experience would be closer to 3.5/5 rather than 4. The hotel has a lot to do to live up to its name, at the moment I would say it’s average, not incomparable. We had a lake view room which was nice but not particularly cosy. The food selection at breakfast was quite limited, I think that adding more fruits and vegetables would improve it. I was very surprised by how small the room service menu was as well, there were barely any options. The staff were friendly and the Dyson hairdryer in the room was a nice touch

I absolutely loved this hotel. Beautifully perched on the hill overlooking the lake, it is a haven of peace. The service is really attentive but discreet, not snobby at all, just right. My bedroom and bathroom were beautiful. Would thoroughly recommend.

This hotel does not meet 5-star standards at all. While the property itself is pleasant & on beautiful grounds, the service leaves much to be desired. Already by check-in, the front desk attendant had a nasty attitude, making us feel like an inconvenience. Despite being promised a lake view, she begrudgingly provided it only after prolonged back-and-forth. To make matters worse, they attempted to charge us extra for the lake view at checkout. This is an example of the service you can expect throughout the stay. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel. The stress of interacting with the staff undermined the relaxation and made the high cost unjustifiable. A shoutout, however, to the woman manning the desk at night—she was excellent and kind.

We were very pleased with our stay at the hotel L’Incomparable and will definitely come back! The hotel also nicely accommodated our dog, that appreciated the huge garden and behaved comme il faut, .., except for a short unplanned and independent excursion to the restaurant area to check the quality of the food smells. We think it was very pleased and thank the restaurant staff for their understanding..

We had a great diner with our kids and the pool lady was so kind all week! But the hotelservice was not good. At day 1 we mentioned an issue with the mechanical ventilation in the second bathroom. The sound was far to loud and sounded broken. In the master bedroom it work fine with far lest noice. Instead of fixing the problem, nobody did anything about it. Every day we mentioned it again and on our last day, the reception told us the sound was normal… We just left
