Very nice hotel to come back to. It's quiet (particularly from other guest rooms), centrally located in an area that's safe to walk around at night, and it has soul. The really great thing is that because there's no gym, pool, or room service it doesn't attract party types. I wouldn't call it quite a five-star hotel - my room anyway didn't feel luxurious, but it was elegant in a monastic sort of way. Low key furnishings, high ceiling. I was in a standard room on the top floor, facing the wall, on the other side from the Wilson parking station. So I didn't have the view you'd have from the front, but it was quiet. The only slight downside was that I could hear people in the corridor as they walked to and from the elevator. That could be fixed with a thicker, wider carpet - but it didn't bother me much because all the guests seemed to be staid, early to bed types like myself.
The reception staff are a big plus - truly hospitable. Welcoming and efficient. And there's a gorgeous atmosphere in the ground floor reception/bar/billiard area (where you can play billiards). I didn't eat dinner in the restaurant. The breakfast was ok. First hotel where I've actually taken the shampoo and conditioner - Appelles. Like it a lot.
