We had a fantastic stay at the Risco del Gato||The journey in a private transfer took about an hour from the airport.||Check in|On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome; as we arrived just before 12noon our room was not ready. We were able to leave our luggage in reception and head to the Terraza Del Gato. |We were given the wifi code and a map of the hotel, which proved very useful until we found our baring's.||We were able to access our room at 1pm which is before check in time.||The hotel has 3 blocks of rooms, which are all accessed from the lower level of the hotel. There is a lift to this lower level.|There are approx. 60 suites.||--------|||Our Room|What incredible rooms, as the hotel name suggests it is a suite. We had room 308, which has a sea view. The location of this hotel means that very few rooms have a full sea view, but our view was still magnificent.||We had a bedroom with 2 large double beds, a TV, dressing table, and a stereo player (very retro)|There was a pillow menu, but I did not even read it as the pillows on the bed were perfect.|From the bedroom you walk through to the bathroom, which has a large wardrobe with shelves and a few drawers.||The bathroom is housed in the round part of the suite. Here you will find a walk in shower, which is reasonably powerful, 2 sinks, a jacuzzi bath and a separate toilet and a wall of mirrors|The ceiling has a large clear dome so it allows lots of light to flood the room.||On the other side of the bedroom is a lovely sitting area, which has a sofa, a large Fridge with a working freezer compartment, Kettle, Coffee Machine desk and a TV. It is here you can sit and watch the Sea. This room has a wall of glass and overlooks the suites front terrace, which has a table and chairs.||The suite also has another terrace which is completely private with sun loungers and an out door shower.||The cleaner for our room was Carmen and she was absolutely fantastic, she did an extremely good job and has a fantastic eye for detail.|The room was spotlessly clean.||A large bottle of water and coffee for the coffee machine are chargeable and have clear signage alerting you to this , a small bottle water, wine and apples milk/sugar sachets complimentary||The hotel is not new and modern and there are signs of wear and tear. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom could do with replacing, but only from an aesthetic point of view.|||---------||Wifi|We had wifi throughout the hotel and found it fast and reliable throughout. We did not try and stream any media but it seemed like it would have handled it without any issues.|||-----||Restaurant and Entertainment||We were booked with Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast was brilliant. It is served buffet style in the restaurant. There are meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, a couple of hot dishes, such a veg dish, baked beans, croquettes, cereals and milk, Bread and a toaster as well as coffee/tea/fruit juice dispensing machines|There is also an egg station where you order your eggs, Fried, boiled, omelette and it is here that you can have bacon and pancakes also cooked to order.|Please note if you are a vegetarian that the bacon is cooked on the same hot plate. It is scraped after every order has been cooked, but it is it not an exclusively meat free hot plate.||The food is plentiful and extremely good.||We did not eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening, but have been told by other guests that it did not disappoint.||The bar in the reception area was open in the evenings and the last night we stayed there was a singer performing in the hotel.|The drinks on the hotel were reasonably priced. Any drinks purchased are charged to your room.|If you wish to purchase a drink during the day you can do this from the Terazza Del Gato attached to the hotel||--------|||Pools|The hotel has 3 pools, 2 outdoor and a heated indoor pool.|The sunbeds were fairly comfy and we did not have issue securing a sunbed at any time of the day|Whilst we were visiting the pool areas were virtually empty with only a handful of guests around the pools.||The hotel provides pool towels, which you collect and return to a lovely lady sat near the pools.|There was no daytime entertainment or even music around the pools, and this is how we like our pool areas when we visit a hotel.||Grounds and facilities|The grounds are well kept and have housing station for wildlife and cats.|The cats can be seen roaming the hotel grounds and as they are well fed by the hotel they do not approach you.||The hotel grounds have a partial view of the sea.||The are also areas to sit and relax in the grounds or even eat a meal in a more romantic setting!|||Gym and Spa|The hotel does have a gym but the equipment is neglected and I was unable to do a basic workout.|There were 3 bikes and I could not get any of them to work correctly. The cross trainer was in a similar condition.||Apparently the running machine does work, but I am not a running type of girl!!||There were no free weights to speak of and the lifting weights were not of much use as there was no caps to hold the weights on the bar.||Some of the equipment looked like it was usable but there were no diagrams on each piece so I was not quite sure how they worked and what they did, as they were not equipment that I had come across before. ||So my one plea to the hotel would be get some new bikes, a new cross trainer and free weights so that a basic workout can be achieved.|||We did not visit the Spa so I cannot comment on its facilities|There is a hot tub which you need to ask to be switched on, but this was not working during our stay and we were told you could use some of the spa facilities instead.|||||This is a very peaceful hotel, and is a great place to relax. There were a couple of children staying a few doors down from our room and we did not even hear any noise from them. We hardly saw another guest outside of meal times, it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves at times.||--------||Beach|The beach is a short walk from the hotel and it is downhill, which means the walk back does take a little longer.|There are beaches to the left and right of the hotel, and there is a constructed walkway along part of the coast with some magnificent views.||You can enter and exit the hotel onto the road running between the hotel and the area where you access the beach. Upon check in you are given a card (and you also have a key) that operates the gates that secure the hotel.||Restaurants and shops|Costa Calma is not a big bustling resort. It does have a few restaurants and bars ,a few touristy shops, 2 spars and a hiperdino.||Some restaurants close in the evening and others only open in the evening. Many whilst we visited close on Tuesday and Wednesday (although some did close on other days) ||From the Risco del Gato it is about a 5-10 min walk to most of the restaurants (there is a restaurant attached to the hotel Terazza Del Gato which is very good)|||The architecture of the hotel is very interesting and there are pictures and information in the reception and bar area and the reception staff were also very knowledgeable about the hotel when we asked questions.||We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel, we have mentioned its imperfections but this did detract from the enjoyment we had whilst staying here.

Have recently returned from this lovely hotel, this being our third stay here. The last time was 10 years ago and I am happy to say that not much has changed. If you want peace and tranquility then this is the place! The grounds are immaculate and tended with care. All staff are professional, friendly and helpful. The food is very good, great choice of hot and cold at breakfast, and delicious dishes in the restaurant... The goat stew on the canarian evening was divine! Rooms are certainly unique and although some may say a little tired and in need of updating (mainly the bathroom), they are kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff. Very comfortable beds, pillow menu available. All in all we loved our stay here again and I'm sure we will return. A beautiful place to recharge your batteries.

This is such a mixed review, so much good, but as much bad, which is a shame, as it could be lovely.||We arrived late evening (about 9ish). We were met by Bernado who is so lovely and really helpful, all the Receptionists are to be fair. We dropped our cases at the room and speedly headed to the Restaurant for food, as they finish at 9.30. This was not the best experience. The Restaurant is clean, spacious and looks appealing. Younger staff are really helpful. Can't say the same about the others unfortunately (some are a bit rude) Pretty basic buffet, salad, hams and cheese, all very fresh, but not much variety. The meals are from a set menu, which you are very rushed to order, starter (choice of 2) usually soup or salad from the buffet. 3 mains (meat, fish or vegetarian) 2 deserts (ice cream or cake) They are okay, but really nothing to shout out about. The 2nd night was a grill night, which I thought was a big improvement, but the chef's were using the same food utensils on the raw and cooked meat, so I certainly wasn't eating that. It then went back to limited set menu's again, so we dinned out in the evenings. |Breakfast was okay, but again a bit basic with the choice. If you are a vegetarian, be warned, everything is cooked on the same hotplate.||The apartment-one first glance, lovely and spacious. Lounge with a great sea view, large bedroom with air-conditioning, massive hall way with plenty of storage, fantastic bathroom, with a shower and large jacuzzi bath (which I was so looking forward to, one of the reasons I booked this accommodation, unfortunately it wasn't used), a closed Courtyard with sunlongers, a mixed water shower and a lovely terrace at the front with a table and chairs. All clean and tidy. Just a bit dated, could do with modernising. After a decent night's sleep (beds are very comfortable) we woke to the smell....from the bathroom, absolutely rancid. Unfortunately this did not ease for the whole holiday, someone came out everyday to try and resolve the issue, but to no avail. Luckily the shower outside was good and it was warm enough to use for the time we were there. We used bottled water to clean our teeth outside to, as the smell made you wretch, obviously we had to use the toilet, so it was tie a towel around your face and try your hardest not to breath. We had to sleep with the bathroom door and hall doors shut, with the main doors on to the Courtyard open, which was okay, as there are gates you can lock. Definitely not a 4 star experience. The staff were very apologetic, but honestly it was disgusting. I spent a small fortune in the supermarkets trying to get rid of the smell, the drains definitely need investigation.||The reception area and bar are lovely and clean, great views from the outside seating areas, but the bar only opened one night as they were short staffed.||The gardens and pool area are well kept and looked after. Always plenty of sunbeds available and you can get towels off the Lifeguard (lovely helpful lady) to use and change daily. ||Live entertainment, was wonderful, but only there at your evening meal slot. Either 6.45pm or 8pm. Yes set times...you dont get long, hence being rushed. ||BUT 4 STAR, this accommodation certainly is not. Very dated and basic. The little villa's are so quirky and could be luxurious with a bit of modernising and drain cleaning.||Things we had to find out ourselves, but were an advantage. You get 3 keys and a key card. 2 keys are for your apartment and gates. The other key is for the gate at the end of the complex, past the pools (on your left) to the end of the path. Great if you want to go on a Coastal walk. The key card is for the 2 gates, down the ramps behind the pools. There is a Restaurant that you can purchase food and drink, and bring back into the Complex. If you cross the Road and go to the right of the H10 hotel, down the gravel carpark, there is a lovely beach with sunbeds, if you go to the left, over the rocks (easy to do) you are on the main beach, with a couple of nice Beach Restaurants ⛱️. Its so much quicker and nicer than walking the road way to the main beach.||All in all we had an enjoyable holiday as Costa Calma is a nice low key resort, plenty of little shops and Restaurants. We had lovely meals out everyday. The beaches are beautiful.||

We spent a wonderful holiday here with our 1.5-year-old and absolutely loved it. The bungalows were spacious, clean, and well-maintained – you could tell they were a bit older, but everything was in great condition and very comfortable.||What really stood out was the friendliness of the staff. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our needs, especially with our toddler. It made a huge difference and allowed us to really relax and enjoy our time.||The food was excellent – fresh, delicious, and with plenty of variety. A special thank you to the restaurant manager, who was always kind, attentive, and truly made us feel at home during every meal. It’s that kind of personal touch that makes a stay memorable.||Overall, it was a fantastic experience for a young family, and we can definitely recommend it. We’d happily come back again!

This is very basic and a little tired but looks good in the photos, so maybe they were taken when it was all newly built. It needs modernising desperately. ||No aircon in the living room or bathroom. You cannot use these rooms at all, unless you like hot, sweaty and stifling, with a very basic tv and a red hot leatherette sofa to stick to.||There is no telephone to reception despite repeatedly asking for it to be fixed. The tv has ONE english channel, the News. No Netflix, or movies or anything unless you speak fluent spanish. ||Some of the Spanish channels are unwatchable with interference. Even the wifi is dodgy.||The floor is always dirty, they don't sweep or clean it. The sinks don't keep the water in. They charge for everything: water, coffee, laundry. We even had to pay for a SAFE? || The receptionist is the worst. We asked for her to make a restaurant reservation and she did not. This, for my birthday. I am extremely angry about this. I want to raise this as a formal complaint but no-one will care so that is why I have come here to Tripadvisor to say how bad this place is.||On the plus side, the pool is clean, the gym is free and the restaurant staff are superb, though the food is a little basic and repetitive.||The grounds have caged animals and birds which is distressing in this heat.||The beach is down a cliff so that's out, and they don't really show this in the advertising. As a disabled person, I am struggling just with getting around the place as there are a LOT of stairs on site, and uneven ground. I gave up trying to use my crutches on the first day.||There is a lack of amenities, no close bars or shops, so be prepared to walk everywhere. You can't get a taxi for love or money.||Everything feels a little out of season, even at the start of July, so think twice before booking.||Or maybe just go elsewhere.

Older hotel, very clean. Loved the size of the room/ suite plus private courtyard too. Food good always something to eat from either buffet, 3 times a week or the served meals,4 times a weeks Breakfast was great including freshly cooked eggs, bacon, pancakes etc. O n the edge of the resort/bay but ok as we had a hire car included, which I would recommend if you want to see the island. Definitely the quieter part of the island but perfect for us.

Well designed and maintained hotel with a nice garden. Easy walking distance to the beach. The suites are spacious and comfortable. There is a plentiful and varied breakfast buffet. Each suite has its own outside area. Ours also had a jacuzzi, and an indoor and outdoor shower.
