This hotel has nice, large rooms. The architecture is colonial and the ambience is tranquil and peaceful. Hot water is not always available, they use a schedule. There seemed to be a small roach problem in our room, but I doubt that it´s a consistent problem. The room for two cost 135.000 per night and includes a good Colombian breakfast. The have a small computer room with one computer; speed was fairly slow. People are nice.

The hotel has charm, looks a bit like an antique store, and has the opening central area that the floors are built around. We have a great "suite" with two sleeping areas, and a huge bathroom. The only windows we have, however, open into the center hallway areas and afford no privacy. When we close the shutters the rooms are really dark. There has been no hot water in the shower, and when necessary we have to ask someone to turn it on, but even then after waiting the required 30 minutes, the water is still freezing cold. The shower head just sprays out one stream of water. It could use new fixtures and a curtain instead of the flimsy doors that leak water onto the floor. Breakfast was simple, but good, with fresh squeezed orange juice, bread rolls, and scrambled eggs with tomatoes. The beds are clean, a bit hard, but good after a long day of walking around town. Los Balcones has good wi-fi and a good location. Fans in the rooms would be nice, but in the evening it does cool down to a nice, pleasant temperature for sleeping.

Stayed two nights at this great place. Everything in old style, almost medieval feeling. Very nice and helpful personnel. They even arranged breakfast at 05.30 am for us. |Just a stone throw from the main Plaza. |We can recommend the free walk in Popayan at 10 am and 16 pm. Meeting place just outside the cathedral at south end of the main Plaza. Just perfect. Every tourist should take this walk. ||The only negative thing would be some hazzle with the credit card. ||Advice: Plan to pay in cash, then all is fine. |BBVA does not charge for cash withdrawal in their ATMs (at least not for our BankNorwegian credit card)

Los Balcones is a family-run hotel with excellent and sincere customer service. Like everywhere in Popayan, potential for noise (motos) is high, so be sure to request a quiet room. What is unique about Los Balcones is that each room is spacious, with a sitting room and bedroom. There is dependable hot water in the mornings. There is great internet, for those who need to maintain contact with the outside world. It is centrally located, close to the plaza and landmarks, yet in a calm part of Popayan.

We have a fantastic couple of days staying at the Hotel Los Balcones. The staff were so accommodating - we arrived early - no problem, the heated up water - no problem, we got up to climb the nearby Volcano - provided breakfast at 4:40 - no problem. The hotel has lots of character and made an excellent place to stay to explore Popayan and surrounding areas.

This hotel had a real genuine colonial feel. It was if you were visiting your Colombian Abuela's house. Big chunky furniture, Patios with big potted plants, old fashioned wallpaper. The staff were just like family too, ready to help with anything and everything.||||Everything works fine and you are centrally located. It can be noisy from other guests but there was no traffic noise in my room.

Los Balcones is definitely a bit no frills, yet we had wi-fi, clean beds, a decent breakfast and lots of potential charm. The arrangement and size of the rooms are great and there are several nice nooks to hang out in common areas. We looked at a few other places and decided that this had the best value/price ratio compared to other hotels. Most seemed a bit behind the times, as this one was too, but at least we didn't pay too much for it.

This place was recommended by Lonely Planet Colombia (a book which I would not recommend, but there are not many alternatives). That's why we gave it a try. Located near Parque Caldas was another advantage. A colonial building, but nothing special. Rooms urgently need renovation. Breakfast was rather poor.||When leaving in the morning we asked the receptionist to call a taxi. So instead of taking his phone he went out on the street to stop a taxi. But there were no taxis passing by. Because we were in a hurry to get to the busstation, we took our luggage, walked a few blocks until we could stop a taxi.
