You get what you pay for at Los Molles. We decided to stay here to avoid the commitment of week-long stays at Las Lenas hotels. Los Molles is in close proximity to Las Lenas (still a mountain drive that will require chains) and it is very affordable, but those are the only good things. We had the worst hotel experience ever. That being said, some more adventurous travelers might find Los Molles adequate... Maybe.||||First thing to realize is that snowy weather can make the drive from San Rafael fairly treacherous. One needs to have snow chains for sure. We had them and used them. Upon arrival, we could not drive into the hotel parking lot because they have no snow plow. We had to ditch the car on the road and hike up to the hotel through the snow. The hotel is in disrepair and certain areas seem to be shut off due to leaking ceilings. Shortly after checking in, the hotel lost power. There had been snow storms the previous day, but this day was clear. Still the staff blamed the power outage on the weather. Incidentally, Los Lenas didn't lose power. Some poor person got stuck in the powerless elevator for a couple hours. The heat provided for the rooms was from electric space heaters, which were rendered useless. Some heat came from gas powered units in the hallways. Gas power also allowed the hotel to serve dinner that evening. This was important because there are really no other dining options in Los Molles. Goat and lamb were the main course that evening. The food was terrible. The wine was fine. We quickly finished dinner then bundled up in our ski clothes to sleep and fend off the winter cold. The pillows on the bed were random couch cushions inside of pillow cases. The next morning we found that the hot water was no longer working. We left Los Molles to drive up to Los Lenas for a day of snowboarding. When we returned, the power was back on. The hot water worked for a while. Then the water completely stopped flowing in the middle of a shower. Complete insanity. We had planned on staying 3 nights but decided to leave the mountains and retreat back to Mendoza.||||Adventurous travelers might be able to endure Los Molles if they know what they are getting into. The better recommendation would be to not head toward Los Lenas unless you can secure lodging at the mountain. Even then, you run some risks... Like getting food poisoning from hamburgers served at the Los Lenas resort. That happened to us as well.
