Hotel de Sal Luna Salada (Uyuni, Bolivia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Not only is Salar de Uyuni the world’s largest salt flat, but when, as occasionally happens, it’s flooded with calm, shallow water, it creates the world’s largest mirror, 129 kilometers across. It’s so large satellites use it to recalibrate themselves — and for those closer to earth, the boutique Hotel Luna Salada offers a similar (though metaphorical) reset. Constructed almost entirely of salt blocks, Luna Salada features rooms outfitted in bright Andean colors — without televisions, preferring the unfamiliar to take center stage. Both tours of the Salar and of the vast night sky are offered, as well as an immersive steam room with panoramic view. While the village of Uyuni is a half-hour away, the area’s best restaurant is Tanupa, right here at the hotel." - Tablet Hotels

The Luna Salada hotel is situated on a small hill overlooking the salt flats, outside Colchani. You can’t realistically walk anywhere from the hotel. |We had half board and the breakfast was a buffet with a good selection including a range of hot items and some very nice cakes. The evening meal was also a buffet with soup, nice bread, a good range of hot items including a number of vegetarian and meat options. There was also salad and a good choice of desserts.|The room had a fabulous view over the salt flats and was spacious (although we did have an upgrade), other rooms we saw were smaller and didn’t have such a good view. The room was nicely furnished but unfortunately we found the room and the whole hotel really cold. The room had an aircon/heat unit but even on the top heat setting we were very cold in the room. |The only time we weren’t cold in the hotel was in bed and in the swimming pool. Unfortunately though we could only go swimming on the first night because after that we couldn’t get our costumes dry enough to pack due to the cold. We went for breakfast and dinner in several layers including a coat and hat and many other guests were in coats too. The radiators in the corridors weren’t on and only some of the fireplaces were lit. This was the coldest we have ever been in a hotel and it did detract from our experience in this lovely hotel.|We were provided with two small bottles of water in the room each day which was insufficient for a day out on the salt flats and it was very expensive to buy additional bottles. |We found the staff helpful and friendly although we weren’t allowed to go into our room until 3pm despite arriving at 12.30pm and the room being ready.

Why all the negative comments?|Solo traveler stayed one night, no issues. The tour operator dropped me off a bit early. Was able to check in one hour early. The bar had amazing snacks and food. The hotel is amazing at night, well lit inside and outside. Yes it is away from everything. The sunrise over the salt flats is amazing. Will return in 2026.

This was a great place to stay for us after a day on the salt flats before we ventured further into the Bolivian desert. Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed this hotel. Great views over the salt flats, comfy rooms, nice atmosphere. We loved the hot tub though we wished the temperature had been a bit hotter. The dinner and breakfast buffets had very nice selection of food and great friendly service. The bar was nice. Beds comfortable and slept well. Only recommendation is that, since you cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet that they install trash cans next to the toilet with a top on them, as I saw elsewhere in Bolivia. That would help tremendously.|Overall it was a great stay and I'd recommend it to anybody going to the salt flats.

This place is definitely overpriced. We paid about $100 per person for the hotel room and the shower ran out of hot water at 10:30 pm. Definitely not the quality I was expecting. What's more, the hotel scammed us to book a taxi to the airport, charging $17 US dollars per person. We managed to get a taxi from our tour agency for $20 per CAR!! They also lied about not accepting credit cards on site (they do!) and made us pay for the taxi beforehand. Turned out the taxi fee was non refundable 🙂 but the amount could be deducted from what we spent on the hotel amenities. I'd suggest don't book anything with them in advance. Some good things about this hotel - the view was nice. The room was clean and warm. The lounges were cute. The bar had nice drinks. But for the price, it's not worth it.

Hotel Luna Salada was hands down one of the most special places we’ve ever stayed. It’s such a unique experience since you are being surrounded by the salt flats and staying in a hotel made almost entirely of salt, and as a couple, it really felt like the perfect romantic escape. The rooms were warm, charming, and filled with little touches that made it feel cozy and all the unique touches of Bolivian culture. If you’re going to stay here, paying extra for the room with the view is 100% worth it. Waking up to the sun rising over the salt flats right outside your window is something we’ll never forget.||The food was seriously good—simple, but fresh and full of local flavor. We especially loved the quinoa soup and trying local dishes like llama, and the coca tea was a lifesaver for the altitude. The drinks at night by the fire, especially the warm spiced wine, were such a nice touch. And the pool was amazing, it was heated, relaxing, and surrounded by huge windows so you could still take in the views while you soaked. We left feeling rested, inspired, and honestly already wanting to come back.

Shame that the hotel prefers to rip off customers instead of building lasting relationships all in the name of quick cash. Hotel doesn’t reply to emails or calls, then pretends to have never received any communication, resulting in refusal to compensate cancelled room. In our case it was a death of a family member. It would be common decency to accept a cancellation. Even more so, making excuses and sending guests in loopholes just to avoid taking responsibility. Hotel has a huge potential as the location is fantastic, rooms are beautiful. However, there is no ventilation in the bathrooms so after shower prepare to sit in steam room for the rest of your stay. Blanket on the bed (which was supposed to be white) was so old and dirty that it was in brown color. Same goes for bathroom towels. If you charge such a premium, then have the decency to provide clean bed linens and towels. Also very cheap move of them to provide only one small bottle of water per guest per stay. (Especially given that the hotel is located in dry area in high altitude where hydration is key not to get sick.) Buffet dinner was very good- plenty of fresh vegetables and salad.

The hotel may look nice on the outside, but the experience was deeply disappointing. The showers are old and rusty, with barely any water pressure and no control over the temperature. Despite the cold weather, the heating system is never turned on — not even in the rooms. There is an air conditioner, but it doesn’t heat the room properly, making the bathrooms freezing cold. Taking a shower feels more like a challenge than a comfort. Prices are outrageously high — easily 4x more than anywhere else. They charge $6 for a bottle of water and don’t accept cash. We tried to go to the hotel bar twice during the hours listed, but there was never anyone there to serve us. Even after complaining to the front desk, no one showed up. Tours and transfers offered by the hotel are extremely overpriced. We ended up paying less for a private tour elsewhere than the hotel’s shared option. Even the transfer was double the price of a regular taxi. To make things worse, the reservation showed a specific price for the airport transfer, but once at the front desk, they charged us significantly more. Everything here feels like a tourist trap. Save yourself the trouble — stay at Palacio de Sal or another hotel instead and avoid all these issues.

Staying at Hotel Luna Salada was honestly one of the most incredible and unforgettable experiences ever, it’s like sleeping in the middle of another planet, surrounded by nothing but salt and sky. The whole hotel is made of salt blocks (yes, even the floors and walls!), and everything feels super cozy and magical, especially at sunrise or sunset when the light hits the flats. Seriously, pay extra for the Dome with the salt flat view , waking up to that massive white landscape glowing pink in the morning is 100% worth it and feels like a movie. The food was delicious (highly recommend the quinoa risotto and coca tea), the spa was such a nice surprise, and just chilling by the fireplace with a book or some music while looking out at the flats was peak peace. Bring layers because it gets cold, and try to go during the rainy season if you want to see that mirror effect. It’s not just a hotel stay, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment you’ll never forget.
