Start with the good points. The hotel has nice leafy courtyard and backs on to a river with lovely mountain views. At breakfast you can sit and watch the world go by to the sounds of rushing water. Rooms are large, those at the back have great views. Good selection of food on the dinner menu and dishes are immaculately prepared and tasty. Breakfast is basic but more than sufficient. Location is convenient with sights, shops and restaurants a short walk away. For the area - generally - this hotel offers a good standard and great value. ||||On to the bad. ||- Strike one, when trying to find plug sockets I pulled the bedside table out only to find behind hadn’t been cleaned for some time. It was disgusting with a huge amount of dust, hair, food and skin particles accumulated. We stayed in two rooms at the beginning and end of our tour - I checked in the second room and it was the same. ||- Strike two, a more minor one but frustrating nonetheless - the WiFi signal is very poor especially at the back rooms where it was actually impossible to connect. Either make sure connection is good or don’t offer it at all and certainly don’t advertise you offer it when it’s impossible to use. ||- Strike three which was my biggest issue - keeping eagles in tiny, bare cages in the courtyard. This part of the world isn’t known for being kind to animals maybe but this unnecessary cruelty and outdated attitude is totally unacceptable. I suggest the hotel owner (who the staff told us owns the birds) considers letting his “pets” go free. Tourists do not appreciate seeing large, intelligent raptors in dirty, insufficient enclosures where they can barely stretch their wings. It is doing more harm to the business than good.
