Hotel Magnolia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Cosmopolitan Santiago’s first true design hotel, Hotel Magnolia opened in the summer of 2016 to understandable fanfare: Set in a renovated 1929 mansion at the foot of hilly Cerro Santa Lucía park, a few paces from the city’s old town and the Bellas Artes national gallery, the 42-room pad gifted the city’s visitors a truly fashionable (albeit sufficiently charming) place to lay their heads. There’s a just-right juxtaposition of the old with the new: a Neo-Gothic facade, stained glass windows, and black-and-white marble floors in the foyer add gravitas to an otherwise-modern design, where rooms boxed up in light wood paneling and finished off with neutral linens give off more than a hint of Scandi sensibility. Pick any night of the week to swig a glass of silky Santa Ema cabernet sauvignon on the open-air rooftop terrace, with a sprawling view of downtown and Santa Lucía hill to keep you company." - Betsy Blumenthal

Long Live Chile: Designer Maria Cornejo's Guide to the Best of Her Native Country

"Hotel Magnolia is a revamped and expanded 1929 town house with 42 rooms that blends historic elements (an original spiral staircase and glass catwalks) and 21st-century touches (subtle graphic art and chessboard marble floors). It’s also close to the restaurants and nightlife of Santiago’s hip Lastarria neighborhood."

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for the price, though it’s genuinely hard to say because the staff were outstanding - warm, kind, and consistently helpful. Unfortunately, the property itself fell short of what you’d expect from high-end American hotels. The rooms felt tired, the fully glass bathroom offered little privacy, and our street-facing room was very loud at night and overly bright in the morning due to weak blackout blinds. The location is central and convenient, but not particularly upscale. We also noticed several comparable hotels in the nearby business district at a fraction of the price, which we regret not choosing.

Hotel Magnolia is a beautiful property that provides a great atmosphere, though I found that it definitely looks a bit better in photos than in person. The staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and the included breakfast was a highlight with a good variety of options. I also loved the hotel’s layout as there are plenty of great spots to hang out, ranging from social areas to cozy private nooks. However, our experience had several downsides. We were in a street-facing room on the second floor, and it was extremely loud at night. The room also had maintenance issues: the toilet made noises for a long time after flushing, and the shower head was faulty, with half the water dripping down the wall instead of spraying. Lastly, the blackout blinds were subpar at best, which made it difficult to get a restful night's sleep.

Excellent location. Close to many bars and restaurants. Beautifully renovated old building with lots of character. Rooms squeaky clean and a great shower. Excellent choice for breakfast. Had a lovely dinner and drinks on the roof terrace. Met some lovely people. Great staff. Totally quiet at night with no clip clopping or banging doors. Highly recommended!! Thank you for a great start to our visit to Chile!!

What a charming boutique hotel with fantastic service! We arrived early and they worked hard to get our room prepared. The breakfast was lovely and the hotel had so much character. The rooms we had were super clean with really funky, cool design features. We lvoed our stay!

We were super excited about our stay here, it was the last stop for our honey moon. We booked over 5 months ago, HOWEVER one day before arrival we found out they had “booking issues” and moved our reservation to a completely different hotel in a completely different part of the city. We had been planing our stay in Santiago for months, and where we would check out. So we were borderline horrified to find out their “solution” I’m honestly shocked and in disbelief about the whole situation.

It looks stylish but it is design over practicality. Our room had a sliding half frosted glass door which was designed to leave gaps top bottom and on one side. So unless you are actually in bed or make a point of facing the other way, we can see the outline of your room mate on the toilet! Regardless you still get any sounds and aromas generated! Then there were 3 bright ceiling lights in the little lobby by the door but none in the large main area of the room. Hidden lights in a split level ceiling gave some light onto the higher ceiling and adjacent walls but not to the desk and working area below where you need good lighting. Nor were there wall lights or free standing light in the area. Breakfast was just ok but very limited in choice. Disappointing that it was only available from 7.00. Evening meal was again nothing special. For all its faults, it is a pleasant and comfortable place to stay, but it is overpriced for what it delivers

The rooms are very pretty and the service is good but not great. Unfortunately the wifi is terrible. You can’t stream anything or log into your accounts. They said their provider is going out of business? Not they don’t care to get a new one so their guests can have internet. The place smells funny. cant pin point the smell but it’s not nice. Anyway that’s my honest review.

We were supposed to stay here for our honeymoon, but they emailed our travel agent the day before our stay to say that our reservation had gone to a different part of their system and was lost… they would not honor the reservation and instead they booked us a stay at a different hotel on the outskirts of the city 😠

Yelp
This hotel was really fantastic. We loved every moment of our say here. The building is absolutely gorgeous and inviting from the moment you step foot on the block. The location was perfect, walk-able to many restaurants and tourist spots. The staff were wonderful and spoke great English, which was a huge help to us as we had zero Spanish speaking abilities. We had a Superior Suite, with two twin sized beds. The room was really spacious and beautiful, with a nice sitting area, closet, and desk area. The bathroom was big and bright but only had a glass door (something to note for travelers that like a little more privacy). There was also a minibar and coffee station. We did not use either of them but they were definitely stocked nicely for those that like an easy midnight snack/drink. Morning breakfast was the perfect mix of staples, plus sweet goodies. They did a really great job of keeping everything at the buffet stocked, and coffee cups full. We left full and satisfied, ready for a day out on the town. We had to leave very early in the morning, prior to breakfast, and they provided a fantastic breakfast box that filled us up and kept us satisfied. Note: you must request the breakfast box the day prior to check-out so they can have it ready for you. Unfortunately we didn't make it up to the terrace to enjoy drinks or bites, but I hear its fabulous. However, we did dine at the main lobby bar one evening. The food was really good, easily shareable as the portions were pretty large. The bill can be charged to the room, or you can pay by cash or credit at the bar. That was nice for us as we were paying separately and didn't want to have to deal with trying to split a bill after it was charged on a credit card and converted to USD. I would highly recommend staying here on your travels. If I find myself back in Santiago, this will be my first choice for a hotel.
