My wife surprised me with a 50th trip to polynesia and then upgraded us to a overwater bungalow- wow! the most colourful fish await in the eco-planted coral just below the bungalow in the clear warm water- how I loved everyday waking up and jumping in the lagoon facing what is left of the sofitel island in the distance after covid dessimated its trade. The room was big and airy- just watch those mosquitos as for nights on end I was murdering multiple of them- they are there for rainy season and live somewhere in the roof stuffing? ||The room looks great but the tv is a gimmick as the internet doesnt reach to the bungalows- unsure why they havent resolved this otherwise why have tvs at all! The bathroom and shower are nice and the floor window echoes more expensive resorts but not much to see- they need to develop the coral more, put more windows in then charge a fortune!||Our first night we had a tahitian cultural night- the food and dancing were epic and the price reasonable we felt. The breakfast was ok, but very samey each day- surprising given the cost of this resort and what they can provide when you pay a lot. If you like animals there are many at breakfast begging for food, we didnt mind, but some might. The room service was good and the service at breakfast ok. We didnt understand why if you pay more for an overwater bungalow, why then cant the restaurant nearest be used for breakfast for those guests, with sea views- this felt like another oversight for this hotel.||In many ways the hotel benefits from the amazing water views, lagoon and private beach, but feels quite separate to it and doesnt seem to know how to monopolise what they have-maybe they want to keep prices lower and give just enough elements of more upscale resorts- we were grateful for this. The main hotel itself feels a step behind though all the same and for our time there it felt like we were staying in a separate place. Amazing though for Bora Bora, where everything is upscale and exclusive...
