I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was comfortable, clean, and more than enough for the two of us. The facilities were well-maintained, and overall, it gave a cozy and relaxing vibe. The location is definitely one of its strongest points, it is very convenient and close to many popular and viral attractions in George Town. We could easily walk around to explore without needing to drive too far, which made our trip even more enjoyable. However, there was one aspect that could be improved. The front desk staff who attended to me during check-in was not very welcoming. She spoke too slowly and too softly, making communication a little difficult, and her expression seemed unfriendly, as if I was troubling her by checking in. I’m not sure if she was new or just having a bad day, but first impressions at the front desk really matter for guests. Thankfully, the manager (I assume) was the complete opposite. He was super friendly, approachable, and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. His attitude definitely balanced out the initial negative impression and left us feeling appreciated as guests. Overall, despite that one minor drawback, I truly recommend this hotel to everyone. The stay was comfortable, the location is excellent, and the view from the hotel is stunning. With a bit of improvement at the front desk service, this hotel can easily become one of the top choices in George Town.

All was perfect during my stay! The staff were very friendly, polite, and always ready to help. The cleanliness of the room and hotel was excellent, everything felt well maintained and comfortable. The location is right in town, and within a 10-minute walk you can reach many famous attractions, hawker stalls, and shopping areas. Very convenient if you want to explore George Town without needing transport all the time. The price is also reasonable for the quality and service provided. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend Hotel Malaysia to anyone visiting Penang.

VERY BAD STAFFS! I usually hate leaving bad reviews, but this time I’m genuinely upset. My family and I have been loyal guests at this hotel since 2007 every time we visit Penang. But our most recent stay on 23-24/09/2025 was by far the worst experience we've had. After checking out, it was raining heavily with VERY STRONG winds. Our taxi had already arrived, and we were in a rush to get to the airport with a lot of luggage. We tried to use the automatic door, which was the closest way to the taxi. But the security guard refused to let us use it, just because he didn’t want the rain coming inside. Sure, I get the concern, but we were guests trying to catch a flight in the middle of a storm, dragging heavy bags. The least they could’ve done was offer some help or flexibility. Instead, we were forced to walk further to a smaller side door, completely exposed to the wind and rain. We ended up SOAKED. I’m not blaming the weather, but the staff’s complete lack of assistance and empathy was unacceptable. To make it worse, none of the staff, neither security nor reception, bothered to help. They were too busy mopping the floor and watching us struggle. It was obvious that keeping the floor dry mattered more to them than helping guests in distress. Not a single umbrella was offered. Not even a word of concern. And I have to mention the rude attitude of the female receptionist. She looked annoyed the entire time, and was even rude at a new staff member right in front of us. It was awkward and unprofessional. I wasn’t going to say anything about it at first, but after everything, it just added to the disappointment. I’m literally writing this at the airport, still wet from the rain. So thank you for the warm farewell. After years of staying here, this experience really makes me reconsider ever booking this hotel again.

Good place to stay for few days, despite places crowded with cars/bus/taxi and no place park, still recommended. Room is nice, a bit moldy (probably because it is an old hotel) otherwise good and tidy. Noise can be heard from other room but I think it is okay. Anyhow, thank you for the great service! 💕 Appreciate it.

Worth every penny. Room was nice, even we got a bath tub in the bathroom. Located in a very lively areas so no problem in finding food / entertainments. Everything is walking distance. Def recommend for anyone visiting Georgetown

The hotel is located in the heart of Penang Old Town. Rooms have basic amenities and a restaurant for breakfast. It is within walking distance to explore the centuries-old buildings and street food.

The room was large and had a bathtub, which was nice. The tall receptionist was dandy and elegant, but the other reception staff were rude and vulgar. There was a cemetery right in front of the hotel, and it smelled bad when you walked there. The room was old and had a strange chemical smell. The only good things were the rooms on the higher floors and the ones with visible pus. 🏖️🏖️🏖️💴💰💴

Quite disappointed with our stay at Hotel Malaysia. The room was outdated, with stained carpets and a musty smell. The air-conditioning was noisy and barely working. Bathroom was not very clean, and toiletries were minimal. Staff were not very welcoming during check-in. Breakfast buffet was average with limited variety. For the price, I expected better quality and service. The only good thing was the central location. Definitely not coming back.
