Even though it’s a fake town (like Cancun or Ixtapa), we really dig the slow, chill pace to everything in Crucecita (Huatulco) – nothing is open before 8am, taxis all work at fixed rates, and nobody's in any kind of rush to get anywhere.|It's particularly pleasant in the evenings, when the trinket-stalls and churro stands roll out in the zocalo, as well as usually a band or two and some costumed dancers.|Maria Mixteca is steps away from everything – although the cinema moved out of the mall next door and relocated next to the Chedraui down Chahue blvd.|The rooms are spacious and clean, the shower is large with great water pressure and hot water, and the rooms facing the street have little balconies too (same price). I really like the Spanish-feeling internal courtyard, and for the price, you can’t go wrong.|The one thing that I’ll never understand is the reliance on booking services like booking.com – I called Hotel Maria Mixteca directly ready to book a room, and they suggested I go online instead, to a service that takes a huge chunk of their income. The world is full of mysteries.
