The Mariandl is just as described on the website. I had a single room on the second floor. The wide wood spiral stair case is welcoming as you walk up to the first landing and enter through what could be he original setting from the doors to the sitting furniture and large floor length mirror in the common space. The room included the essentials along with high ceilings, decorative ceilings, chandelier, and bedside lamp and view through quality double windows that opened. Checking in and out was easy! Location is a convenient 15 minute walk to the historic district and to the Central Munich train station. The staff are friendly and accommodating adding to the cool vibe of the Mariandl. The food at the Café am Beethovenplatz delicious and the music wonderful! Thank you especially to Rudy and Jessica!

I stayed two nights. After the first woke up with back pain so when I got back from exploring the city (around 16:00/4pm) asked for a second pillow. I didn’t say it was due to pain and the person behind the bar (identified by other staff as the owner) seemed incredulous and said I’d get it sometime in the evening unless I was going to sleep right then. Not knowing what that meant for an actual time I suggested sooner would be better for me and he snapped at me saying he’d “just got in 30 seconds ago” and that I’d get my pillow later. The pillow never showed up, and he ignored me when I passed through the bar later, but based on his reaction and other comments about unannounced room entry I did put my luggage in front of the door to prevent unwanted visitors. Other staff were fine but didn’t seem thrilled to be there. The location is easy to reach from the train station, the piano player was good, and the breakfast selection was decent. But if he was the owner he should consider delegating housekeeping interactions to someone else

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and it was a wonderful experience that far exceeded our expectations. The room was more than adequate for us, and the amenities and facilities had a traditional feel to them. The lady staff (maybe owner) was very nice and took care of us a lot. If we ever come back to Munich, we will definitely stay here again.

Dated rooms with no ventilation or soundproofing. Also, some dude straight up came into my room at 8:30 AM. He had a key, somehow. Front desk apologized for this, but I feel I cannot afford it greater than two stars.

The hotel is located near the main station of Munich in a beautiful historical building - for connoisseurs of architecture, art, the romance of antiquity and those who are ready to sacrifice their comfort for their passion (although I believe that for the price that guests pay, the latter still deserve to get a little more service). A minute's walk away is the excellent Gabányi Bar, possibly one of the best I've ever been to. That's where the pluses end. In the hotel was very strange and peculiar service, and its price is clearly exaggerated. It was my first time in Germany, I am far from stereotypical, and I hope this is not the traditional style of hospitality in the tourist sector in Germany, so I might be just trivially unlucky. It was also the first time I had to deal with checking myself in at the bar. In general I got my first impression that my visit made the hotel staff very uncomfortable, as if they perceive their job as something unbearable and one more guest is a big burden for them. The hotel staff either pretended not to know English or fundamentally speak only German (except for the smiling guy who works at the bar in the morning while serving breakfast). The bed was clean and made up every day. The towels were also changed every day. I did not like the poor quality of the pillow and mattress. The old parquet flooring in the room desires a resurfacing. Otherwise, I enjoyed the small details in the interior - beautiful door knobs, wooden window frames, antique wardrobe, mouldings on the ceiling, spiral wooden staircase with massive handrails. At the entrance stands an old piano as decoration. I felt a little sad and sorry for the old instrument, lonely living out its last days on the street. In the evening there is live music in the bar. But I wasn't in the mood to go to this bar after I asked for a glass of beer and a bottle of water and was charged a seemingly just made up price of 11 euros.

Filthy, disgusting hole of a room. Torn matress and bed frame, dirty bath and dust everywhere. Slept fully dressed in a chair, bed was appalling. They have refused a refund and any compensation. This hotel should be closed on public health grounds!

Staff were genuinely very friendly and welcoming. Tremendous charm, ambiance and Belle Epoch atmosphere; no old musty hotel smell whatsoever. Single room was tiny but perfectly comfy and quiet. Hot water took a few minutes for a consistent flow to the rain shower but it does finally come consistently and then is easily controlled and with good pressure. Rewe supermarket 400 meters away, lots of affordable ethnic restaurants in the neighborhood with take-out.
