What a lousy place! When you enter in the hotel the smell of moist, damp and mold hits you. If you manage to survive past it, you get to enter in the room, which is outdated and empty! Apart from the small wooden beds there is nothing in the rooms. Not even a glass to drink water. The plastic cup broke when I touched it, the shampoo bottle was almost empty, the towel semmled the cigarette smoke. When I request another towel, the new one smelled the mold. I was even charged for a cup of fruit tea. The personnel doesn't speak much of English, and they are not nice. Honestly it is one of my worst hotel experiences. Not only that wi ill not go again, but I moved out of it after one night an d I certainly not recommend it to anybody. Just don't stay here !

Hotel Marienbad is a gem... Location is outstanding and very quiet. Right near the university and professional buildings. It is a very short walk to major attractions and the transit system is right down the street. Marcus and family were very nice and provided outstanding service and advice on things to do in the area. The unit and hotel were very clean and the breakfast was wonderful. Overall, I would recommend to anyone and we will be staying here again when we visit Munich.

Terrific stay, in a really charming small hotel where I have stayed for many years when in Munich. Close to the museum complex and tram stop. Always a warm welcome from Hermann at the desk! He speaks perfect English and is very knowledgable about the city.

It's an antique and hidden hotel that runs as a family bussiness. Said that, it's a decent place to stay in. Good prices, excellent breakfast and not far from Munich center.

Yelp
I first stayed at the Hotel Marienbad about 20 years ago. I hadn't doublechecked my reservation dates request at my previous hotel and was shown the door...but they did recommend the Marienbad! I NEVER went back to the other place. Marcus Gruener is at the front desk most of the mornings. Together with his family and the unique Hermann (Hermann the German), they ensure every stay is memorable! Rooms are spotless, the staff is personable, and they serve one of the most incredible breakfasts I've ever had...that's included in the cost of the room! The location is an excellent one: Located in a quiet spot off of Barer Strasse, it is a short walk from Karlsplatz and train and subway connections that go all the way to the Munich airport. Though I often go to the Oktoberfest alone, one year, Marcus and his family introduced me to a group of fellow Americans and beerfest lovers that also stayed at the Marienbad; it was the most incredible trip I've ever had to Munich! I had just expected a room but wound up with a family away from home. But now, I understand the Hotel Marienbad may be closed and reopened as something else...I believe it will leave a gaping hole in the group of hotels that are the hidden gems of Munich. I hope against hope that someone or something saves this hotel...it is too special a place for Munich to lose!

Yelp
Been traveling all over Germany and this hotel is downright scary. The room I had was very small and reeked of mold, likely from the bathroom ceiling. The key is also a skeleton one that the hole opens straight outside and you can see right in. You also have to return the key to the inn keeper when you go out. The towels were clean but very rough when used. The shower has a lot of mildew along the edges too. I woke up the next morning and discovered a large stink bug on the wall. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything sound. You can also smell a lot of smoke wafting in from the front door. It is illegal to smoke in rooms so everyone smokes by the doorway. Yuck. I would not eat the breakfast there knowing how unclean the rooms were. If you need a short stay, this is ok but I will not be back there. I stayed here one night which was enough.
