Hotel Marincanto (Positano, Amalfi Coast) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hotel Marincanto has been welcoming guests since 1967, when Positano’s then-mayor opened it as a modest B&B. Today it remains family-run, though its scale and polish have grown considerably. Built into the cliffs on cascading terraces, the hotel offers uninterrupted views of the bay and town, with an infinity pool and cocktail terrace that make the most of the outlook. Forty rooms and suites, some in an 18th-century villa, each carry bright Amalfi touches and many open onto private balconies. The beach club below, reached by a long stone staircase, gives Marincanto a rare advantage along this crowded stretch of coast." - Tablet Hotels

This hotel was an excellent combination of ideal location, reasonably priced, and beautiful with your typical Positano views. We had a junior suite which had 2 balconies, both with incredible views. Huge amount of space in the room, a great jacuzzi shower too with views out to the ocean. Location was easy to walk into town without too much stairs and hassle, but if you wanted to stay in the hotel you could get away with not leaving if you were that way inclined. There is a pool, lots of sun loungers, and a private beach area and club down at the water exclusively for hotel guests. Not really warm enough in October to make the best use of those, but they'd be perfect for peak summer when you want to come back and escape the crowds.

We had an absolutely incredible stay that exceeded our expectations at the Marincanto! The staff was extremely welcoming, friendly, and attentive the entire visit. The rooms were beautiful, updated, comfortable, and we had a private terrace overlooking the sea and town. The hotel grounds are also incredible. They span over several levels and we really enjoyed access to the private beach club area which seems very unique compared to other hotels. The pool and Red terrace bar were also great. Overall, wonderful experience and I highly recommend!

My husband and I just got back from a 3 night stay at Hotel Marincanto. The location was perfect, and our car was able to drop us off directly at the hotel. We stayed in a Junior Suite, and the views were breathtaking - had views of the water and the town. The room was spacious and modern. The bathroom overall was a good size, with the exception of the shower, which was a bit small/cramped and can only fit one person. The staff at the hotel were all extremely helpful. The daily breakfast had a great spread of food (both hot and cold plus an abundance of pastries). The bus stop and a deli is a 2 min walk from the hotel. The hotel definitely exceeded my expectations!

I just checked out of Hotel Marincanto two days ago and I still feel like crying. It has been one of the most magnificent hotel experiences of my life. The hotel is gorgeous and perfectly situated in Positano with the most amazing views. The team there is so hospitable - our welcome was so warm, they were so helpful, anticipating our needs and going above and beyond. I wanted to point out a few people who really made our stay so memorable - Paolo, Dario, Natalie and Ciro. But truly their entire team is fantastic. They remember your name, your favorite table, even your coffee order. The hotel is romantic and exquisite and one of the reasons I adore Positano.

Staying at Hotel Marincanto was truly the best hotel experience we've ever had! We were lucky enough to stay in Villa 7, and the view from our room was absolutely breathtaking – waking up to that stunning panorama every morning felt like a dream. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly polite, professional, and helpful. They went out of their way at every opportunity to make sure our stay was perfect. A special thank you to Antonella, who was especially kind and accommodating throughout our visit – she made everything so easy and enjoyable. The private beach and beach club were fantastic – peaceful, beautifully maintained, and a perfect place to relax. On top of all that, our room was cleaned twice a day, which made us feel so well taken care of. Everything was spotless and fresh every time we returned. Hotel Marincanto is the epitome of luxury, hospitality, and beauty. We’ll be dreaming about this stay for a long time and can’t wait to return!

Just book it! This hotel is the ideal location, with beautiful views and great staff. We had the best experience at Hotel Marincanto thanks to Paolo. He was incredibly kind and genuinly interested in our trip. When he found out we were heading to Sorrento {his hometown), he took the time to pull out a map and give us tips. He recommended a thai restaurant to us which ended up being exactly what we needed after so much pasta and pizza.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff lovely. Special thanks to Paolo on reception who went out of his way to arrange anything we wanted and Martina who kept us supplied with drinks on the cocktail terrace. Thanks also to the restaurant staff who looked after us at breakfast. It was a wonderful trip never to be forgotten.

Yelp
Very beautiful property, our room was amazing with awesome views and the housekeeping was top notch. Dario and Anita were who checked us in and they were at the front desk most of our stay. They were both so helpful with any questions and made us feel very well taken of the whole time we were there. I appreciated them so very muchZ definitely reccomend if you're staying in the area. Both the breakfast buffet and restaurant were great

Yelp
We are staying at this hotel during our multi city trip in Italy. Hotel Marincanto Is as advertised. Beautiful views and exceptional service. The front desk/concierge go out of their way to provide great service. Aurora, Martino, Paulo, and Dario have been very helpful. And the wait staff, bartenders, and housekeeping staff are world class.

Yelp
Staying at Hotel Marincanto was an absolute DREAM. There's no other way to say it. The views, the vibes, the charm of the buildings - it's beyond beautiful. It is such an incredible place that we look forward to visiting again one day! The best place to stay on the coast.

Yelp
Excellent stay. Well worth the money. You can take the steps to go down to the beach area quickly without having to climb the hills like everyone else. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and spacious. Lots of lemon trees. The breakfast has great variety

Yelp
We were so excited about this hotel! We booked a superior room, which was really more than we could afford, because we wanted the promised incredible view. Our view was of the top of a building! Some of the lessor service people were very, very nice, but the management was lacking. They basically didn't tell us anything about anything when we got there. We have to learn all ourselves. This hotel was a bitter, expensive disappointment!

Yelp
I stayed at the Maricanto last April and it was magnificent!! The staff was fantastic and greeted us with a welcome drink when we arrived. They also were very helpful at helping us find our way to our tours and the various places around town that we wanted to see. I booked a superior room and it was large and spacious. We kept the windows open at night and enjoyed the wonderful breeze and sounds of the ocean at night. There is an air con in the room, however in April we did not really need it. The weather was perfect during the day and at night! The hotel has a first class restaurant that features amazing views of positano and the food was incredible. If you have a chance I would definitely book a night at this restaurant. I really enjoyed having breakfast delivered to our room, it was served on our balcony and featured an assortment of breads and yogart (typical in Europe). The location of this hotel is perfect. Right in the middle of town and a short walk from the beach. I don't think I would have wanted to stay anywhere else, I liked it so much that I have booked the same vacation for this coming April!

Yelp
This hotel was absolutely incredible and so hard to leave. Fantastic value for the most amazing view, yummy breakfast, easy beach access, proximity to SITA bus stop, helpful staff, hotel kitties, welcome drink, and balcony. It seemed that every time we left our room someone came in to freshen it up with towels and to make the bed and we never saw the staff who did. One of our mornings was rainy but we did not care once we had breakfast, put on our comfy robes, and sat on our balcony to drink in the view. Loved the private beach access to swim once it got warm and sunny and as easy access to the main boardwalk/port area. Cannot wait to return.

Yelp
Spent 4 wonderful nights as guest of this hotel high above the Mediterranean sea in Positano. Our room was literally perched on the side of the cliff with the rocky beach 218 steps below us. Our large, two-room suite had two small balconies and plenty of space to hang out and enjoy the warm fall weather. AC was adequate although we enjoyed opening the french doors and listening to the sea at night. The Hotel served a VERY ample breakfast which was included in the room rate and they have a wonderful sunny terrace where you dine. The servers were very attentive. They also have a small but fantastic infinity pool perched on the cliff side with great views and plenty of spots for sunning. As with most of Positano, be prepared for lots of steps. I admit that climbing up from our room to the breakfast area (around 3 flights of steps) left me a little winded on the first few days. The only tricky part of the whole trip was know where to check in when we arrived - you take the elevator DOWN to the lobby. (hint to hotel - add a little sign to help us out )

Yelp
Overall we loved the Marincanto. The best way to phrase it is that the things we loved, we REALLY loved. The things we didn't love, were a major bummer. LOCATION - Marincanto couldn't be in a better location if the beach is your priority. You get the most incredible views of the city and the ocean from the property. You also have access to a private beach (for an additional 18 euro per day, but it's so worth it). AMBIANCE - This is where there are some huge polarities. The hotel itself is LOVELY. Perfection, really. Clean, beautiful and has the prettiest swimming pool. However, we stayed in the honeymoon suite, which is the closest room to the beach (lower down the mountainside) and literally couldn't sleep for half of our stay because there is a club directly below the room that blasts music until 5am. It's HORRIBLE. Seriously. We aren't that worried about noise generally, but this was excessive. AMENITIES - The hotel shares a private beach, which in Positano is worth gold. Anyone from the public has to pay upward of 70 euro a day to come over and get a lounge chair. Marincanto guests don't get the super nice lounge chairs, but they get some decent ones for less than 20 euro a day. That's bomb. - The swimming pool is gorgeous, although closes in the mid-evening. Like 8pm I think? Weird and annoying. I'd like to come swim after all the kids go to sleep, but whatever. - The front desk is pretty helpful. They helped us organize transportation to and from Naples, which was going to be stressful. - HONEYMOON SUITE TIPS: there is a pool in your room. Things to know: it has so much chlorine, it will burn of your nose hairs. Like straight up, chemical burn. I had to scrub and scrub after my dip in there. Also it's not heated? So you can't swim, and there are whirlpool jets, but it's cold. So.... not a hot tub, not a pool, more like a vat of something that might turn you into the Joker. VALUE - Our room was around $1000 a night. It was our honeymoon. We loved it overall, but the pool in the room was the big selling point and we barely used it (see above). It was also so freaking loud at the club we couldn't sleep and it derailed our plans quite a bit. So next time we'll take a room with a balcony and not spend quite as much, but we'd definitely come back.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this very small boutique hotel for 5 nights; it was absolutely perfect! The hotel has a great location easily accessible into the center of town as well as a private entrance onto the beach. Many of the hotels in Positano require significant amount of steps to arrive at or recommend public bus transportation to arrive at the center of town; fortunately, this hotels main entrance can be easily accessed via the main road making it more time friendly to travel around. The views from of balcony were absolutely stunning overlooking the bay and the coast! Our Junior suite was decorated tastefully and was very clean. The staff was very friendly and accomodating as well. Another great plus is that Maricanto has it's own pool accessible at no additional cost (beach is an extra fee)! We would definitely considering staying here again next time we visit!

Yelp
I only stopped here for dinner, but so happy that all the street level sidewalk table restaurants couldn't seat us next to the sea because we found this gem instead. The ambience stands out because not only do you have the seaside view, you're sitting in an Amalfi style garden where you can pick the oranges from the trees of you are so inclined to do so. The patio is complete compared to several other restaurants where if you turn from the sea, you have unmade tables or are breathing in scooter exhaust. The feel of the restaurant just made it complete. Since the restaurant doesn't sit at street level, you have to walk down 4 flights of stairs, it was like having a little piece of Positano all to yourself. The service and food are both amazing. Most nicer italian restaurants come with the friendly service, but this was particularly notable. We had someone keeping an eye out for our water, wine, and to clear plates at each meal, which we gobbled down because it was also incredible. From a food perspective, Marincanto was solid. The slow roasted pork tenderloin with the orange glace may have been some of the best pork I've ever eaten. The seafood gnocchi was just ok, I wouldn't recommend ordering it, rather focus on their fresh seafood/entrees. Along the way we got little chef presents (I love when restaurants to this), including meatballs and a mix of light desserts. If you want a memorable and whole-package dinner, skip the sidewalk restaurants and reserve some time at Marincanto.

Yelp
It is one of the best hotels I've ever been to. I stayed at the suite room with jacuzzi and 2 balconies. - the amazing Positano view ( well known from the Internet ) - nice area, about 10 mins walking down by street to the main Positano tight shopping / restaurants streets. - swimming pool with drinks and also great Positano view - private stairs connection to the beach - own hotel terrace for relaxing on sunbeds - delicious breakfast in the morning - very kind, friendly and fast room service - huge bathroom at my room - parking for cars ( it's very important in Positano when u travel by car ) - NO PROBLEMS AT ALL

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel. Can't beat the views! Bed was a little uncomfortable, but don't go there to sleep! Walk your way down to the beach and enjoy!

Yelp
Fantastic hotel with postcard views of Positano yet a short walk to the beach and downtown bars, restaurants and shops. Very attentive staff who tends to many logistical needs, amenities and reservations for the first time visitor. The hotel entrance sits on the road, the lobby and restaurant is 4 levels down by elevator, and the rooms hug the cliffs further below. Many nooks and crannies along the cliffs to have a drink and watch the ocean and town.

Yelp
This review is for the Hotel Marincanto, on C. Colombo, 50 (a large hotel, not a small boutique hotel): Location: you can't do any better. It's got the same views as Le Sireneuse, but much less expensive. We had an amazing view with a great balcony; we pinched ourselves everyday, whether we were in our room or on the terrace or at the pool. Amenities: we chose it because of its direct access to the beach, and we're so glad we did. There were steps that led directly to the hotel's private sundeck and then the beach beyond that. Staff: everyone was so nice and friendly! Lisa, Rosa, and Rita from the restaurant; Gianni at the pool; Vyto at the sundeck; and the housekeeping staff who cleaned our room so well and kept us stocked with towels and candy during the turndown service -- everyone helped to make sure we had a good stay. Finally, the front desk staff was exceptional: I had been communicating with them since we made the reservation several months prior, and they were so helpful and responsive and attentive. They were experts at booking car and restaurant reservations and answering all my questions patiently -- Andrea, Maria, and Antonio, to name a few. One minor comment: the hotel can definitely use a little refresh in terms of decor and maintenance, but I guess it's all part of the charm of an old hotel!

Yelp
After reading through the reviews on TripAdvisor, picked the restaurant at Al Marincanto for our first dinner in Positano and were so happy we did! The atmosphere was so so romantic, sitting on a terrace amongst lemon tree/bushes... we especially loved "Pino" the piano player! (take the elevator and check out the adorable mural!) Our hotel was the Hotel Savoia and it was just a short walk up the road. Had the gnocchi and the large pasta with zucchini and it was an excellent way for my hubby and I to try a red and a white sauce with their delicious pasta- yum!!

Yelp
If it wasn't for the beautiful view of Positano's exquisite coast and quick access to the town, I would give this place zero stars. To begin, the air conditioning in our room was hardly blowing anything out and when we called to complain, a man came in and said he thought it was working fine. He never checked the vent. He simply put his hand up to where the air was blowing out and said it was "fresh." Secondly, we asked to use the gym which consisted of one treadmill and a singular cable machine which didn't even work. Next, my boyfriend and I wanted to order room service around midnight and the man (same guy who came to fix our AC) at the front desk laughed at our request. Rude. Then, upon getting back from a wonderful day in the ocean, I looked forward to washing my hair with the shampoo and conditioner I brought from home. However, after ample searching, my products were gone. I was pissed and called the front desk to ask for some of their shampoo and conditioner since mine were thrown away by the cleaning staff. Low and behold, they didn't have any conditioner at this hotel! Of course they did not. So there you go. That sums up my stay at Hotel Marincan(not do anything right)to.

Yelp
Love this place. Came here second time. Excellent service.

Yelp
Spent 4 nights as the hotel because of a recommendation from friends whose livelyhood is to take American's on tour of Italy. We were in a corner room that overlooked the ocean (i suspect most if not all do) and out of the side window had a view of the city. Really enjoyed being able to open the doors at night and just have the sounds of the ocean in the room. Getting from the hotel to the City can be done in one of two ways, either down ~300 stairs and across the beach or you can go out the front door and down the road. Either way the trip was only 10 min. Breakfast every morning was great. Not an American buffet but better than most European. The staff was very helpful in arranging dinner reservations and giving tips on what to do and where to go. Up the street (away from the city) about 4 min walk is a small bodega type place. Good place to get some small snacks, drinks etc. at a better price than down in town. There is also a bus stop there but we never took it. Never went to the pool but saw a couple people do so.

Yelp
Spectacular views from all terraces. Warm and attentive service staff. Decor is elegant and simple with white and turquoise/blue accents throughout. Breakfast is included and it is served out on the main terrace where the picture perfect views are framed by bougainvillea, and citrus and olive trees. There is something for everyone on the plentiful buffet tables. Very few hotels in Positano have a pool (infinity) and private beach. Our room had a large shaded balcony where we spent most of our time. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great hotel! Excellent service, beautiful Infiniti pool, great location and a great free breakfast. Will for sure stay there again when I visit Italy!!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this hotel during our honeymoon and we LOVED it! First of all the staff was amazing. They were so friendly and so helpful. The front desk makes dinner reservations and tour reservations for you which is awesome. We booked a junior suite so we had a balcony with a hot tub on it. It was amazing. The view was so incredible we couldn't stop taking pictures. The location was perfect because you were up high enough to have a great view but the hotel still had a private staircase down to the beach. It was A LOT of stairs but still closer than most of the other hotels. The private pool is nice too especially for a pit stop on your way back up from the beach. The food at the hotel was delicious. It rained one of the nights we were there so we decided to not to venture out for dinner. The meal we had at the hotel restaurant was excellent. I can't say enough about this place. We're dying to go back.
