The Best Destination Spas in the US & Around the World: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"On the northwest coast of Sardinia, less than a mile from Isola Rossa, a picturesque fishing village on the Gulf of Asinara, you’ll find the Hotel Marinedda Thalasso. The spa, L’Elicriso (the everlasting flower, in English) is an airy 27,000 square foot wellness oasis that specializes in thalassotherapy—from the Greek word thalassa, meaning "sea,” it’s the use of seawater for its therapeutic properties. Mentioned as far back as 480 B.C. in the works of Euripides and Hippocrates, this treatment method was en vogue in ancient times, and is just as effective for washing away the stressors of modern life. The spa offers four heated seawater pools, two saunas, a hammam overlooking the Marinedda Bay, and an extensive variety of thalasso programs, massages, and beauty treatments."

Our fourth time visiting this hotel with my wife and daughters who are now 20 and 17 years old. We have never been disappointed. Once again all the staff were very friendly and made sure our stay was exceptional. ||The food was as good as ever and one of the main reasons we love this hotel. We had the buffet breakfast and buffet evening meal each day (photos of my last day's dinner attached). Each evening started on the reception terrace with cocktails overlooking the sunset and sea served by the wonderful waitress and waiter. The cocktails come with delicious small snacks (photo attached). ||We stayed in a senior suite which was a suite (360) (bedroom and lounge) with linking twin room (361) for my grown up children. The rooms were very large with each having a patio and table and chairs where we had lunch (baguette, cheese and ham bought from the supermarket just down the road as we didn't need the large portioned hotel lunches). My only slight criticism is it wasn't clear (to me) from the website that the bedroom and lounge of the suite are open plan. So the lounge cannot be used separately if whoever has the suite wants to go to bed or get changed etc. We had a strict "don't come in before knocking" policy !!. That aside this didn't distract from our enjoyment. So once again we have had an amazing time at this hotel and thank you to everybody who works there. Back in England, its monday and raining and I know where Id rather be.

This was our 6th visit to La Marinedda so already knew the hotel and its lovely location very well. Our last visit to La Marinedda previous to this one was in 2019 (Covid, etc) so we were a little bit concerned that we'd built up our previous experiences in our imaginations, things might have changed, and we might have been disappointed, but wow! |The hotel services and friendly staff were excellent. Did I mention the food? Superb. Even when the weather didn’t allow the outside buffet and all guests had to use the inside dining area, the organisation of this faultless, and the food and the service didn’t suffer - great organisation from Alessandro and his team.|Clean room with great view of the bay.|It’s a little bit pricey but you pay for quality.|We had a wonderful holiday!

I stayed at Marinedda Thalasso & Spa with my wife for three nights, and here is a summary of my review:||Pros⬆️:|1. Very Large Resort: The property is huge, with many facilities including tennis and padel courts, big parking space, golf carts moving around the resort, spacious rooms, and a very wide beach. It gives a feeling of openness and plenty of space.||2. Excellent Pizzeria: The restaurant, especially the pizzeria, was excellent. We had dinner there and the food was perfect, both in taste and quality. The staff at the pizzeria were also very friendly and welcoming, which made the dining experience even better.||3. Friendly Staff Everywhere: The staff were always smiling, welcoming, and helpful, which made the stay more enjoyable and relaxing.||Cons⬇️:|1. Beach Beds Policy: About 80% of the beach beds are reservable and require an extra charge, while only 20% are free for hotel guests. Since the free ones are quickly taken, it often feels like you are forced to pay extra to enjoy the beach. Given the high room rates, this policy was very disappointing.||2. Reservation System for Restaurants: Almost everything required a reservation. Without one, your only options were to eat outside the property or order room service. For such a large resort with so many tables, it was unusual and inconvenient to have to plan meals two or three days in advance. This took away from the feeling of relaxation, as it felt like scheduling every step instead of enjoying the holiday freely.||3. Sea View was not as Expected: I had a sea view suite, but what I got was only a partial sea view. Although the view was nice, it did not overlook the full sea or beach area as expected.||Recommendation:|If you stay here, I recommend taking a walk outside the resort to Isola Rossa, where you’ll find beautiful restaurants with lots of variety and much more affordable prices.|

We stayed at the hotel for 2 days and they were wonderful! The staff – every single person – was polite, cheerful, and helpful. Our room (350) was a perfect size for a family and had a great view! We didn’t manage to get a spot at the à la carte restaurant, but the “Buffet” restaurant exceeded our expectations, so much so that we went back for the second dinner 😀 The beach is beautiful, with nice waves 🏄, and the hotel also has a large seawater pool. What stood out as well was the gluten-free options – the Tiramisu and another chocolate dessert were just amazing. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We’re still on the island, waiting for our flight out of Olbia, and am already sad to have left Hotel Marinedda. The very best thing about the Hotel is the staff. Endlessly helpful, kind, and caring. Always keen to ensure the satisfaction of their guests. Yes, the hotel is a little ‘tired’ but it is very clean, and comfortable. The food was always good, and often exceptional. The spa was wonderful. Surely, it makes an experience extra special when the person who is giving you a 2 hour spa treatment LOVES their job? Had thought 10 days would be too long, but in fact, at Hotel Marinedda, it felt too short. Thank you!!!

I recently stayed at Hotel Marinedda, and it truly exceeded all my expectations. The staff were absolutely amazing – a special thank you to Sara for her outstanding service to me and my girlfriend. Everyone we interacted with was polite and spoke excellent English. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with a great variety to choose from. We also tried the Pizzeria, which was outstanding – huge thanks to the Chef for the incredible food. Our room was spotless, cleaned daily, and very comfortable. During our stay, we had the chance to visit other Delphina hotels, but Marinedda was by far our favourite. I’m already looking forward to returning next year. Lastly, I had the pleasure of meeting the General Manager, who was super friendly and accommodating. A big well done to him and the entire team for running such a fantastic hotel. Thank you for making our stay so special.

Recently stayed for a large family get away. The facility, views, pools, and food were amazing. But what really made our time here wonderful was the staff. We had 4 children with us and the entire staff were more than accommodating. They took time to great us, get to know us, and make sure that our stay was a wonderful experience. The front desk staff were wonderful to work with. There were three ladies who help plan excursions, that went over and beyond to help plan a few day adventures that were amazing and helped us navigate local interests. There were three younger ladies and a gentlemen that worked in the store and photo shop who were beyond friendly, professional, and helpful. We loved walking down by them. The buffet, pizzeria, and restaurant are all amazing. This facilities and grounds are great, but the staff truly makes your stay amazing. A true class act. Thanks for a wonderful time.

Second visit in 3 years with two children aged 9 and 6. Food is outstanding as always and options have expanded. We choose to dine in the outdoor buffet which consistently some of the best Italian food we’ve eaten. There’s fresh pasta stations, two catch of the days, and typically a meat grill in addition to an array of starters and appetisers. There are children options in a “kids corner”. Other restaurants for dinner include an a la carte (included in half board), a finer dining restaurant (30% discount if half board), and a pizzeria (included in half board). Pool, beach spectacular as always. Beach is very busy in August even with the pay-for-bed scheme which operates across the vast majority of the hotel’s private beach (with public beaches either side), but is not so busy if spoils the atmosphere. The pool areas are not busy at all, and are great.
