Hotel Marthahaus Bern

This hotel was a great place to stay. It was so much less expensive than the other hotels we stayed in during our time in Switzerland; this hotel provided great value for money. Our room had a comfortable bed, and I was given an extra duvet cover (in lieu of a top sheet, which none of the hotels we stayed in had). Our room was quiet and had a great balcony. The hotel has an elevator and free WiFi. There was no air conditioning (it wasn’t needed when we were there in September), hair conditioner or face cloths, and the room was a little smaller than at other hotels we stayed at. But this hotel was exceptional in other aspects. The breakfast buffet had lots of choice. They have a coffee machine available 24/7 in the breakfast room for all kinds of coffees (cappuccino, espresso, hot milk, etc.) as well as a selection of teas, and hot chocolate. They also had little cookies available, and they put out bread rolls later in the day. All of this was free. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Do not be put off by the fact that it’s a 15-to-20-minute walk from the train station. There is a bus that goes from the train station to 1 block away from the hotel about every 3 to 4 minutes, and it only takes about 5 minutes to get to the train station. A pass for the bus is included in your hotel cost. I think this hotel would make a great “home base” for seeing this general area of Switzerland. We only stayed 2 nights; if I was doing the trip again, I'd stay here longer.

Beautifully simple, unpretentious, comfortable, generous. The staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. There is coffee and tea available 24/7 and a shared kitchen. Feels more like a home than a hotel. Quiet and private.

This was the first place we stayed during our Switzerland trip and it felt like such a warm and lovely welcome to the country. It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station, with dramatic views over the river as you cross a bridge. The area is lovely, it's on a quiet residential street and less than 10 minutes walk away are an excellent selection of restaurants and bars. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the rooms pretty spacious and very clean. I had a private double room with ensuite, my brother had a single room (with balcony & nice view) with shared bathroom facilities, both room options were great. We loved the breakfasts, continental but with hot or cold boiled eggs. Overall , a really enjoyable stay!

I had a truly wonderful experience during my stay at this hotel. The location is really convenient, being so close to the Bus 20 stop, which made getting around a breeze. What stood out the most was how friendly and helpful the staff were; they genuinely seemed to care about making our stay enjoyable. The rooms and bathrooms were not just clean, but also felt warm and inviting, creating a cozy atmosphere. I was especially impressed by the breakfast; it was fantastic and offered such a generous variety of options to choose from. The added bonus of having luggage storage facility as well as complimentary coffee and hot drinks available (24/7) was a lovely touch. Plus, the inclusion of a Bern public transport ticket made exploring the city even easier.

I stayed for 9 nights at this lovely, cozy hotel and it was such a pleasure. Nice and clean rooms, and such friendly staff. I can highly recommend Hotel Marthahaus if you are looking for a family feel good hotel in a beautiful part of Bern - very close to the city centre :)

I didn't stay (had to cancel last minute). But I can say, all staff were so accommodating and quick to respond. I can't speak for the hotel itself but the two members of staff I dealt with were excellent in communication, and when I had to make last minute changes they were kind. For this I give them 5-star communication.

Lovely little hotel overlooking a beautiful courtyard in a quiet, tree-lined residential neighborhood. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Pleased with hotel for location to the city, convenience of getting to hotel from main train station via bus, decent breakfast, 24hr coffee / tea machine available, staff very friendly.
