Hotel Marthahaus Bern

I am in the middle of a three-night stay at this hotel, which is excellent value for money, given the prices of Switzerland. My room is simple but reasonably large, the beds are 2 x 90cm wide and comfortable, the shower is modern, and the breakfast is also surprisingly good, with wonderful bread. There is free (and decent) coffee 24/7.

A spotlessly clean, efficiently run small hotel. The location is excellent - a 7-minute walk from Bern train station, in a quiet residential area. The staff are kind and helpful. Breakfast is eminently decent for the price. Very strongly recommended.

We stayed end of summer two nights in this lovely little hotel. The location of Marthahaus is perfect, right next to the heart of Bern, yet in a quiet area on a side street. You can walk everywhere and Bern's excellent public transport is also nearby. The hotel staff is friendly and the whole place has a homely feel. We parked our car in the beautiful courtyard. We slept very well in the quiet surroundings. Of course it is not a 5 star hotel as such but we prefer these kind of hotels over luxury. This hotel can be highly recommended!

Rooms were nice and very clean, desk and a chair were provided. Breakfast included and was very good. They have coffee and tea machine available 24 hours a day which my wife loved. The hotel is across the bridge from the main old town so if you are inclined to and enjoy walking it is a great place to stay. We took a bus from the train station so I'm sure one could go into town on a bus as well. We found it nice and tranquil because it wasn't in a busy area. Staff are very friendly. They had an elevator which was nice and a guest kitchen in the basement where on could cook, store food etc.

Budget friendly accommodations in a residential area near a bus stop and easy access to train depot. Our basic dorm like room had a private bath and shower. We were able to open the windows because we could use the shutters to keep it dark. Our window looked out into a courtyard. There was 24/7 beverage access in the dining area, which was a real plus. The breakfast buffet was ample and one of the staff helped teach me how to use the soft boiled egg machine. Now all I need to learn is how to slice the top off without little bits of shell hanging on! The dining area is small enough that you feel a comerardie with other guests. You nod and smile. Staff was friendly.

Clean room with really heartwarming staffs They are so supportive. In the room you only have a basin and it’s shared toilet/shower. However, it’s really clean and not a problem for me. This hotel makes me fall in love with Bern 🤍🇨🇭🐻

Great location in quiet neighborhood where you can easily walk or tram to old town, and great breakfast is included. Everyone we interacted with at the front desk at checkin and checkout and during our stay was very friendly, kind and helpful. They even lent us a dry bag so we could go swimming in the river! The current is very fast so you can just float and it will carry you from Point A to B and you can hop in/hop out like a highway. It was very fun and the best part of our trip, so it was especially wonderful they lent us the bag so we could have the full experience swimming with our things. If you are there during warm weather, it seems like the whole town is out having fun in the river on the weekend!

Extraordinarily comfy bed, huge bright windows, very clean, delicious breakfast, incredibly kind staff, good wifi, two easy stops on the tram to arrive. Accessible to multiple tram lines and in a beautiful and quiet residential area. Thoughtful 24/7 access to robust coffee and tea machine (including hot milk for lattes and hot chocolate). Locked luggage room. Coop grocery store nearby. I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom next door. There was a toilet/shower next to my room and a toilet at the end of the hall. The foamy soap also smelled great! Over a two night stay I never saw anyone else in shared bathrooms or had to wait for one. Other traveling companions enjoyed en suite double room with windows opening to neighborhood courtyard. Excellent value for money and lovely stay overall. Another commendable Rick Steves pick!
