"Occupying a renovated sixteenth-century brick house on a tiny lane steps from the medieval Grote Markt, the intimate Matelote is a refreshing take on the traditional Flemish talent for cozy interiors. Each of the nine individually designed rooms has high ceilings with exposed wood beams, a built-in music system, and quality bedding that runs to feather pillows and duvets. Belgian contemporary art and Artemide lamps define these rooms, which have spacious bathrooms and earthy color schemes. It’s a laid-back place where you feel like a houseguest—a fire burns in the lobby, you get an electronic front-door card so that you can come and go as you please, and the front desk is eager with suggestions when it comes to this fashion-mad town’s latest boutiques, restaurants, and clubs. (Not surprisingly, the Matelote is where the global fashion crowd pitch camp when in Antwerp.) There’s no on-site dining, but the staff can help get a reservation at inVINcible, a wine bar and restaurant two doors down."

"This hotel has pulled off the feat of a perfect marriage between stately 16C architecture and a modern, designer - inspired interior. The characterful rooms are stylishly minimalist. All of which is in the heart of downtown Antwerp." - Tablet Hotels
Unfortunately this hotel did not deliver on comfort, amenities or cleanliness. The spiral staircase to our room was difficult to navigate and the room itself was dull and lacked any feeling of warmth or comfort. The furnishings were poor quality, and the bathroom was not adequately clean. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, but the breakfast was poor. On a positive note the hotel was well located.

Our group stayed in 3 rooms at Hotel Matelote and loved it. It was clean and the ambiance was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We especially loved the fresh bread and pastries every morning. The location is fantastic. Close to the historic sites and public transit. Great restaurants nearby. But it was also very quiet. We didn’t hear city noise at all. Our interactions with Erik, the manager, were great. He was so helpful and kind and responsive. We traveled with small kids and an elderly couple and didn’t have a problem with the stairs. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is in the old town, in a quiet street, very near to everything for sightseeing and for restaurants. The owner is lovely, very kind, attentive and informative. We had room 5 on the top floor which was spacious and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful, everything freshly prepared and eggs boiled to order. Would definitely use this hotel again if we return to Antwerp.

Great little hotel in centre of Antwerp old town. Great blend of old and new and continental breakfast included. This is very handy as many restaurants and cafes not open at breakfast time. Room very clean. Big shower, TV with English channels. Kettle in room but not needed as you can get tea/ coffee during the day at no extra charge. Room decor slightly dated, could do with a refresh but didn't affect stay. Perfect location. 2-5 minutes from everywhere.

The hotel is a hidden gem off a busy area but quiet and serene.
We had the junior suite which was clean, large, and overlooked the patio. Excellent staff who were professional and kind and provided information about where to eat and visit. Walking distance to central station and Viking dock.

This hotel is perfectly located, in a very quiet lane right in the historic centre. Very comfortable rooms, with all the usual amenities. The rooms we had were accessed by a small spiral staircase, so perhaps not ideal for those with mobility issues, but other rooms are available. Good quality breakfast. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

One of the best accommodation during our travel. A very spacious and clean bed and bath rooms. The room contains a mini fridge and a welcome wine.||The front staff manager, Erik, gave us a good overview of the location & the city, he also made sure we got fresh bread for breakfast. The breakfast itself offered a very good selection and ample eating table for the guests.||It is just a few minutes walk from the main square and seemingly a safe area.||If my wife & I return to Antwerp, for sure we would like to stay in this hotel again.

Yelp
Literally just a few steps from one of the cities beautiful squares, this hotel is tucked away in the middle of a quiet alley. The reception staff is super helpful and eager to offer suggestions on things to do or where to eat. The building is was built in the 16th century, so no elevators here. But it's still very modern and furnished with all the finest of luxuries. The beds are very comfortable and the hotel is also surprisingly affordable. PS. If you are lucky enough to have Eva working the reception desk, make sure to ask her advice on places to eat. She is a wealth of information and is amazingly nice!

I loved this place! Great location, cool rooms, and, most importantly, awesome staff. My favorite hotel on a recent European vacation.
