We had a 3 night stay in Hotel Mathis, which is close to but just enough away from the bustling Champs-Élysées. Our room small but comfortable & quiet; we heard our neighbours once while they were entering their room but that was about it for noise. ||The bed is terrific for a good night’s rest. The shower in a good way had water that ranged from hot to practically scalding. The toilet was in its own separate water closet by the room’s entrance, where the mini fridge and Nespresso coffee maker sat; I really enjoyed the coffee out of that Nespresso. The air conditioning was excellent.||Léon & staff were always there to make sure our stay ran smoothly; Léon recommended some nice restaurants in the area. ||The hotel’s elevator is the smallest I think I’ve ever seen but adds to the charm of the property.||The hotel is very well situated; not only are the Eiffel Tower & Arc de Triomphe accessible but so are many of the famous points in other directions that the city has to offer.||Overall we had a great stay and would recommend.

Extremely HORRIBLE experience. There was ZERO transparency regarding minibar charges — nothing was clearly displayed, and no one informed us at any point. When we questioned the charges later, the manager even said, “Why didn’t you ask?” That’s not how hospitality works.||At checkout, no one asked whether we had used anything from the minibar, but after we left, the hotel QUIETLY charged our credit card without any notice or approval. When we returned to dispute it, the manager was NOT HELPFUL AT ALL, just outright REFUSAL to everything we requested. Not even once trying to understand or assist. ||We even brought back the untouched minibar items, but they refused to accept them. With no clear pricing and no communication, this felt deceptive and DISHONEST. Not once did we feel welcomed or respected as guests. We even mentioned that we would be leaving a review online, but they clearly didn’t care and told us to do whatever we wanted — a SHOCKING attitude for a hospitality business.||On top of that, the room was extremely small, poorly ventilated, and uncomfortable. For the price paid, the living environment was far BELOW expectations. This kind of lack of transparency and low-quality accommodation is unacceptable. I strongly do not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially international travelers who might not expect such HIDDEN TRICKS.

I recommend visiting the hotel cafe. The reception by Mrs. Harriet and Mrs. Daria is wonderful and kind. They provide professional service and are keen to help meet the customer’s desire. The coffee tastes great and the sandwich is delicious.

We spent three nights at this hotel as a family for the Paris Marathon and overall left with a positive impression. In fact, if we come back again, we’d probably choose to stay here once more. If you're traveling with kids, I recommend booking the Junior Suite. The hotel’s location is excellent, and all the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. The rooms were generally very clean and well-maintained. For example, unlike many other places we’ve stayed, the Nespresso machine and kettle in the room were spotless and limescale-free :) The beds were quite comfortable and the sheets were perfectly clean. The only issue we had was the sound insulation between rooms — if you're a light sleeper, you might hear conversations or even the coffee machine from the neighboring room as if it were in your own. But if that doesn’t bother you, I think it’s a great hotel overall.

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. There were bottles of wine in the minibar with no price tags or any clear notice that they would be charged. I assumed they were complimentary, but upon checkout, I was surprised to find an expensive charge added to my bill. I explained the misunderstanding and asked for a refund, but the staff refused and were unwilling to listen.||On top of that, the room was extremely small, poorly ventilated, and uncomfortable. The location of this Hotel is fantastic. Walk to all shopping districts and eateries. The staff while we met are all very nice and coffee at the cafe has one of the best coffee we had in Paris. Will definitely return and recommend.

100% recommend Pros: The hotel location is phenomenal. If you are willing to walk, there is plenty to see nearby. Within 30 minutes of walking you can get to Louvre, L’Orangerie, Arc de Triomphe, Grand Palais, Petit Palais, Musee d’Orsay, Rodin Museum, and Eiffel Tower. There is a park on the next block over. You can pick up grocery store food at Franprix two streets over or walk a little further to get to the bigger Monoprix grocery store. Several restaurants of different types are in the area. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We had the pleasure of having Leon greet us on arrival. We arrived to the hotel around 10am, well before check-in. He was able to hold our bags at the hotel until we were able to check-in around 2pm. This freed up time for us to walk around for 4 hours without dragging our luggage around. Very much appreciated! Over the few days we saw him he always asked how the room was, pointed out the umbrellas at the front door that we could use when it was raining, and answered any questions we had. We were disappointed we didn’t see him the last few days of our stay. All of the front desk were polite when we saw them. Housekeeping was also wonderful. The hotel key is a physical key on a heavy keychain that must be left at the front desk whenever you leave the hotel. At first this seemed odd, but it was actually a great idea. I never had to worry about losing the hotel key or have to deal with an electronic key card not working. It also lets the housekeeping staff know when you are out of the hotel so they know when they can clean your room without having to knock and disturb you. The TV had “Videos On Demand” that gave you a selection of various genres of movies you could watch in English. Just keep in mind the descriptions are still in French so you might need to google it on the WiFi to know what you’re looking at. Also for some weird reason if the movie had text at the beginning to give backstory it showed up in French (this happened with Antebellum and another movie we watched). The TV channels are only in French, but we were perfectly happy watching movies so this wasn’t an issue for us. Our room was an “Elegance with shower and balcony.” It let us choose to have two twin beds or one double bed. The room was a great size and offered nice amenities. We had a safe, robes, slippers, mini fridge with paid drink options (free waters), coffee station, bathroom toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, vanity kit, shoe shine sponge, shower cap, lotion), a corkscrew, and extra pillows in the closet. We brought the table in from the balcony to use as a tv-tray to eat and watch movies at the same time. Housekeeping kindly wiped down the table and kept it inside the room for us since they knew we were using it. Cons: The table and chairs on the balcony fit out there but there was not much extra room. This would have been okay, except one chair was wobbly. I’m not sure if this was from the concrete being uneven or the chair legs not being even, but I didn’t feel comfortable sitting out there because I felt unstable in a wobbly chair on such a tiny balcony. (We still stood on the balcony, just didn’t use the chairs.) Paris was in the mid-60’s (Fahrenheit) when we arrived. Since it was still considered Winter, the hotel is only in heating mode and air conditioning was not able to be used. The lowest setting on the thermostat was 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit); the options were to keep it at 16 degrees or turn it off. Coming from a cold climate, the room felt very hot. We tried opening the door to the balcony to get fresh air in during the night; that made the temperature perfect but ended up being extremely loud due to street/traffic noise (a few sirens, a trash truck, people walking down the street talking loudly, etc.). We used earplugs on night 2 and it drowned out the noise. Things cooled down later in the week, so the temperature of the room wasn’t an issue for us after the first couple days. The website lists the heating/cooling dates if this is a concern for you (we saw this after).

We’ve traveled to Paris many times, and I felt compelled to write this review after seeing some negative ones, as our experience at Hotel Mathis was nothing short of exceptional. This is by far the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at in Paris. The rooms are beautifully designed, spacious, and incredibly comfortable—a rare find in this city. The management and front office staff are absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay. The service was impeccable in every way, with attention to detail that truly made us feel at home. As for the location, it simply doesn’t get better. Everything you could possibly want to explore is conveniently nearby, making it the perfect base for a Parisian getaway. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. We cannot wait for our next visit to Paris, and there’s no doubt—we’ll be booking with Hotel Mathis again. Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
