As a San Francisco newbie I had no idea what the hotels were like there, how much the "average" price to pay was, or the distance they were from union square. My friends and I had signed up (and got picked!) for the Nike Women's marathon all the way back in the spring so our next important task was...to book a hotel! As we are budgetistas, are pretty down to earth, and get a long pretty well, we searched and searched some more until we stumbled upon this gem of a hotel. And boy did it become our favorite!
We eagerly booked this hotel and all of us were delightfully surprised when we checked in. Now, this ain't no posh apartment size room like the Westin, or the Mariott, but what it is, is charming, cozy, and welcoming. The guy that helped us at the desk, Tagouri, was so friendly and nice it was natural for him to go beyond checking us in. He showed us the "non" touristy places to eat on a map, where NOT to go at night (Tenderloin) what buses to take to japan center and offered us umbrellas when it was raining! It's safe to say the customer service here is SOLID. We headed up to our room and were so happy with it. Of course it's a little old and it helps to open the window some times, but it's a comfortable size with ample storage place. There's a dresser with a flat screen TV in the room, a table and chairs, a ceiling fan, a closet with a few hangers, another closet closer to the door with a dresser, a microwave, and a small fridge. Awesome!
This hotel reminds me of a bed and breakfast with the old school charm, family like environment and the free continental breakfast! It was simple, non greasy, perfect breakfast to start our trek throughout san francisco. There were ample hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, hot water for tea and oatmeal, coffee, orange juice, cookies, scones, a variety of bread for toast, butter, nutella, and cheese. We absolutely LOVED it. I had some toast with butter and cheese, toast with nutella, cookies, hard boiled eggs, and orange juice and tea. It was the perfect healthy breakfast!
For my first time in San Francisco I'm so happy to have stayed at this hotel. It was about a ten minute walk to union square, which was actually kinda nice, it welcomed us with open arms, it was quiet as we slept during the night, and gave us food to eat to start our day. I'm looking forward to staying here again the next time I'm in San Francisco!
