Hotel Mea Lipari - Aeolian Charme

Sicily is beautiful but there is no sugarcoating the fact that anything less than a 5-star rating will always have at least one, if not more, of no hot water, low shower pressure, bathrooms the size of closets made doubly impossible to use with (at least in the Anglo American world) redundant bidets, poor breakfasts, reception staff with poor command of English and on and on. This hotel is fully fit for purpose. Everything available works as intended. The grounds, including pool are immaculate and well maintained. Staff are exceptional. One morning an hour before breakfast I was working in the reception area utilising the time difference and the night manager without blinking volunteered “do you want a coffee?”, which hit the spot nicely. Breakfasts were exceptional too, with a maître’d that constantly checked quality and provisioning. Restaurant perfect too. Location is exactly a 6 minute walk from port and main drag to restaurants and surprisingly well merchandised Decò supermarket (if you have luggage you will need vehicular transport up the short hill). An oasis in a country and island where local owners simply accept mediocrity, refuse to pay for ongoing maintenance knowing full well we naive travellers will still pay to stay to experience the natural beauty that God and earlier generations (whether Roman, renaissance etc) bequeathed to the lazy sods. Exceptional hotel easily walkable from the ferry and the city center. Friendly staff. Breakfast had plenty of options. Comfortable bed. Great view from the balcony. Only negative was that the balcony was not private. It was partially connected to the neighboring room. It was not an issue but it should be clearly stated at time of booking.

Loved this hotel. Reasonably priced. Nice room with a balcony overlooking the sea. Very clean. Elena at the front desk was so helpful with arranging tours and beach clubs. Restaurant overlooking the Tyrreanean Sea with Simone was wonderful. Breakfast was good with scrambled eggs and a lot of choices. Short 10 minute walk to the port and town.

This hotel is a rare gem! We stayed 4 nights but wish we had stayed longer. Everything was wonderful; staff, food, location, comfort, pool, views... we loved it! We had half board, and the food was exceptional, lovingly made, and very delicious. Grazie to everyone for making our stay so fantastic, we can't wait to return! Lipari is an ideal base to visit the other Aeolian islands. We went to Vulcano and Stromboli and hired a car to drive around Lipari, which took about an hour and half with stops. There are so many interesting things to see and do! Highly recommend a trip to Hotel Mea and beautiful Lipari 😍

The hotel is beautiful. The location is excellent and the view superb. |The staff was very helpful especially Maria, Nicolas and Morgan. |Breakfast was very good with plenty of cappuccino and espresso gratis. |Only one complaint- there should be a designated cigar smoking area AWAY from every one else- we simply could not enjoy our little terrace because of the cigar smoke from the terrace next to us. ||The hotel called a taxi for us and Giovanni was so nice- his van is a bit past its prime but he was wonderful. ||We highly recommend this beautiful place.

Nice hotel with a good value for money. 5 min walk from the commercial port. The breakfast could be higher quality to reflect the culinary excellence of Sicily and the pool should be cleaner than it is. Service is friendly and very supportive in providing information. The booking process and the welcome messages are very well structured.

We enjoyed our one night stay at Hotel Mea which offered good value and helpful and friendly customer service throughout. Our bright and airy bedroom was super clean with comfortable bed, fridge and hair dryer. A large outdoor private patio overlooking the bay had two chairs and sun loungers. The buffet style breakfast met our needs. The dinner menu was very restrictive with mainly fish options but offered good value. A pre bookable shuttle service from/to the harbour for $10 each way proved very useful .

Excellent hotel, very comfortable and clean. It has lovely views from the rooms and restaurant. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean and tidy. Very grateful for air conditioning as it was so hot when we were there. The pool area is beautiful with a jacuzzi and lovely plants and an infinity edge. It was 10 minutes walk into town but not a great area to walk through really - the other side of Lipari is better. The restaurant was great and it served a really nice breakfast with lots of choice and the evening meal that we had was excellent. The staff were lovely and so helpful, especially the lady who helped us book a ferry boat in a hurry when a storm was forecast! Great experience and would love to come back sometime.
