Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer! The hotel was beautiful, clean, and quiet. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious--we loved everything we ordered and opted to have dinner at the hotel more nights than we planned, because it was so good. The location is within walking distance to most everything we were interested in exploring within the city, and it is a hip, up and coming neighborhood. We always felt very safe. We looked forward to our wonderful conversations with Nelson throughout our stay. He is the perfect host-interesting, informative, and friendly.

Upon entering Hotel Medio Mundo, you are promptly greeted, your bags are carried and you are provided with incredible service from the get go. Nestled in Merida Centro, everything you need is all around you and you can access many amazing restaurants, bars, museums and so much more all within walking distance from this Hotel. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the patio is beautiful and the entire hotel feels like a little oasis. The staff were extremely accommodating with our travel and check out times, allowing us to stay in the patio area after we checked out and watching our bags until our flight. The complementary breakfast was to die for and I cannot recommend their restaurant enough. All in all this was the perfect place to end our trip and I will definitely be coming back.

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks, as the local coronavirus epidemic was just starting. I can't say enough good about the kindness, graciousness, and hard work of the owners and staff. It's a beautiful small hotel in a very walkable neighborhood, and they are taking the pandemic very seriously. The excellent small vegan restaurant in their courtyard has remained open for takeout and delivery with reduced hours, which has given me the chance to visit the hotel many times over the past few months, and to watch and discuss as they have prepared to reopen. They are committed to the health and well-being of both staff and guests, and I recommend them without hesitation.

Spent 4 nights at Medio Mundo. A small hotel, not at all like a big chain hotel. The rooms are charming and comfortable. The bath rooms too are a good size. I think it feels like old time Mexico. The interior courtyards are lovely. The staff was great, very attentive and helpful. I am not a vegan but the vegan breakfasts I found quite good and enjoyable. I was coming from a cold northern clime so being able to sit outside to enjoy morning coffee was wonderful. I found Merida a wonderful and interesting city. Highly recommend the city and Medio Mundo.

This is our favorite hotel in Merida. We have stayed here more than 5 times. The owners and staff treat us like family. Their restaurant serves some of the best vegan food we've ever had with a different menu every night. The rooms are spacious and clean. The perfect place to come home to in the evening.

Positives:||Superb location- You can walk just about anywhere that you might want to visit in Merida and we loved that.||Very tranquil- Even though you are on a city street and close to the action, the ambiance here is lovely. Several courtyards, including one where you dine. Beautifully landscaped.||Pleasant, helpful staff and a congenial owner who truly wants his guests to relax and enjoy every blissful moment.||The food- Vegan and excellent. We are not vegan or vegetarians but we were impressed with every meal. Breakfast is included but we also started buying lunch because of the excellent choices and very, very reasonable prices. Our traveling companions also started buying dinner for the same reasons. Drink options- especially the beer choices- were good.||Things we would have liked:||Room was a bit dark and somewhat stark. Lighting was bare bulbs and desk type lamps. This could be easily remedied with better lamps/ shades and some artwork on the walls. ||Plumbing challenges. One of our fellow travelers had a toilet that did not flush. She requested that it be fixed but it remained a challenge for the whole week. Ick||We would have loved a small refrigerator, a safe and perhaps a coffeemaker. (Office did have a safe for us to use though)||Pool- Lovely but not practical to use because of location in dining courtyard.

Writing thoughtful reviews and deciphering ohter's reviews is a challenge. I found my experience at Hotel Medio Mundo blissful and enchanting. For the same reasons that this place resonated so strongly with me can be the same reasons someone else would be less enamored. The location was great for me. Close enough to the Historical Center to be an easy walk, but not in the thick of activity. Like most of Merida, one exits the door of this hotel onto a street and narrow sidewalk, but once on the inside of the door on interior feels like they miles away rather than feet away from the public passage. There is a blissful tranquility within the walls of this hotel even if the sound of traffic seeps in. The owner and staff take a personal interest in each guest, compensating for the the multiplicity of things that one might access in some larger hotel. There is a true feel of human connection here. I'm always positively impressed when books are available to be borrowed and there is a selection available near the front office. The rooms are clean and have essential that are not "plush" but provide comfort. I enjoyed the ability to access fresh air kept in motion by a ceiling fan. My room made me wish I was on an extended stay composing some soon to be important book. I liked the scale of the hotel and the fact that there were to TVs to invade my quiet. If you want an active bar with sports or news on a large TV or one in your room then you will be disappointed. I would have liked a safe in my room to lock away my passport. Securing of valuable in the office may have been available, but I didn't inquire.

As often happens, one reads a review of a place, sight unseen, and one arrives, it is as wonderful as the copy and the photos. Nelson, a co-owner & concierge, orchestrates courtesy and prompt responses amongst the staff. Each room is slightly different in color, but all have comfort—both air conditioning and fans. Behind the rooms is where breakfast and dinner are served. The menu is vegan and delightful. And the coffee is bold and wakeful, just what you need in the morning. Because I was in a wedding party, I didn’t dine in the evening, but I can tell you the fresh fruit, pan with toppings (including chocolate), and orange juice if you like, was divine. It is within walking distance of the Plaza Grande, several other restaurants, an out-of-this world gelato place, and other reputable restaurants. Make a point of staying here. You will not be disappointed.
