This is a lovely boutique hotel in a quiet backstreet of Madrid which is so close to Opera and the Puerta del Sol you would not believe anywhere within such proximity could be so quiet! Even basic rooms have very large, terribly comfortable beds, a flat screen television, wi-fi access and the all-important air conditioning. The wardrobe was discreet and deceptively big, while the lovely writing desk and delightful stationary made me want to spend the whole of my time in Madrid writing letters to friends from my hotel room!
The marble and slate bathroom was superb, with a massive and stylish shower and very large basin which could easily accommodate toothpastes, toothbrushes, flannels, soaps razors and random assorted products of two people! The vast mirror was another very nice touch, and did not seem to steam up while the shower was being used, but whether this has been specially designed I do not know.
Breakfast was a generous continental buffet with cooked options available on request and a staggering variety of fruit juices. Despite being a draw for northern Europeans, the heat of August means that most Spaniards and Madrileños escape the interior of Spain, making this month an incredibly cost effective way of visiting this great city. Meninas, a four star hotel, offers very generous special offers on its website during this off-season, and is certainly not alone in doing so.
For both comfort and location, this is a great place to stay in Madrid.
