Absolutely perfect. Beautiful room, beautiful beach and reef teeming with fish just a short swim away. Staff were super courteous and friendly, they even contacted local boat operators Edwardo and Kiki who took us out on a private snorkel along the ruins and reef at an extremely reasonable price. I highly recommend, gracias!

Felt like camping in a "boutique" hotel. We were moved here last minute from the sister hotel Alea due to "seaweed" a couple of days before arrival (walked past later and saw none). Looking at the reviews it looked similar to the other hotel with pleasant reviews so we weren't too worried about the change. Upon arrival however it seemed like Mereva was in an awkward stage, the pools were dirty and unkept and the staff seemed rushed and not helpful. The rooms had a Nespresso coffee maker but when I asked several days in a row for pods they said they were "on the way" but never arrived. Ordering a basic coffee they charged us for what tasted like weak instant. There was no TV as pictured which was fine, just strangely left broken looking. A lot of broken items seen throughout the hotel with items dangling precariously. The shower had almost no water pressure and it rarely got warm. Each time we tried to order any food from the restaurant they said they were out. One morning we wanted to get breakfast but they said there was no cook but "someone could make some eggs". Our initial reason for booking a hotel there was to spend time on the beach enjoying the days but after repeat denial of food items and being charged $480 pesos for one margarita.... We then tried to spend more time at the other sister hotel down the road but they had similar issues with no food from the menu and feeling like they didn't want us there. In order to get to town it was around a $500- $700 peso taxi ride but we needed to eat. Most nights we ended up bringing our own food and water back to the hotel after town excursions as it felt like glamping at a remote campsite rather than hotel experience. Even asking for potable water from them felt like we were asking a lot from them. The only nice person working there we met was José who worked both hotels. I don't know if something catastrophic happened they didn't tell us about but overall it really made our first time to Tulum unpleasant. For our 40th birthday trip it was a real disappointment and I wouldn't recommend the area.

Absolutely awful. I asked for a partial refund and was denied - so I’m leaving this review to warn others. I paid for THE nicest room (5 star hotel prices) and our room had mold, bugs, cracks in the wall and tattered towels. I wish they would have been kind and just given me a discount but perhaps this review will save someone else an awful stay. Go spend your hard earned dollars somewhere else.

This place was amazing! The bedding was so soft and comfortable, the hammocks that are available right next to the water were gorgeous and relaxing. Not only were the staff kind and welcoming but they did their jobs wonderfully! All food and drinks were delicious and the room was very clean!

I stayed here with my wife and teenage daughter for one week in July. We got a junior suite which had a sliding glass door through which you could see and hear the sea. The setting was fantastic. The hotel is located on the beach in a fairly quiet area away from the clubs and noise of the hotel zone. The view from the bedroom window was one of the hotel’s best features. There is a dock stretching out into the sea with hammocks, which is a great place to relax between excursions. We used it several times to get past the sargassum on the shore and get into the sea. The water is warm in the bay and fairly shallow. The ground is uneven but walking out about 100 meters got me in over my shoulders and I am 6’2. I did some swimming out there and even just stood in the water chatting to my daughter. It was a nice setting to unwind after a day of walking around the ruins. The hotel is well situated for excursions. We rented a car and it was a short drive to the town for restaurants, the ruins, grocery stores, etc. There was also a cenote about a one minute walk away where we snorkeled and met a cool crocodile! We drove to Playa del Carmen one day and to Valladolid another day. We saw the ruins at Tulum and in Coba. There was lots to do. The hotel staff were very accommodating. We had very few problems, one day we needed an extra towel and more toilet paper and another day we couldn’t get the TV to work. They fixed these situations very quickly and in a friendly and professional manner. They all spoke very good English but also allowed me to practice my Spanish, which I appreciated. The restaurant had good food. I enjoyed the grilled octopus and the pizza as well as the brisket. The place was fairly quiet while I was there and so we always had a table and prompt service. The prices are inline with the restaurants in town. Tulum is not a cheap vacation! The servers were very professional and offer a high level of service. Before we went we were worried by some other reviews regarding the smell of sargassum. I have to say it was possible to smell it but it did not prove to be a big factor in our trip. I grew up on the coast and am used to the smell of the sea and any sulphur smell from the seaweed was fairly subtle and usually hidden under normal seaside smells, which are pleasant and I have always associated with good health. Anyway, I miss our comfortable room by the beach now that I am back home in Arizona. I want to go back!

We had a great time at the hotel mereva. We rented a car (not big drinkers) from Tulum airport, it was a quick ans easy drive. Tulum was about a 10 - 15 minute drive from the hotel. We loved waking up getting the free breakfast and coffee, then driving into Tulum and exploring or going out on some excursions. We went during seaweed month and the hotel did a great job keeping to the ocean. The staff were lovely, the food and drinks were good, we loved chunk the cat that hung around, and we used the kayaks, paddle boards, and snorkeling. We will likely come back with the kids. We also met loads of lovely people and had many fun nights walking up and down the little hotel/restaurant/bar strip!

We love Mereva, this was our second stay here and it was just as special as the first. ||Tankah bay is so nice. Away from the hipster Cabo-vibes of loud beach area Tulum but also right on the beach in a quiet bay. Yet only about a 10 minute drive into Tulum (downtown) to get food, etc. We always rent a car. (Free and easy, shady parking too.)||Mereva feels very safe which is nice. It’s gate and security guard protected as well as locked up every night. ||The service at Mereva is always wonderful. The food is good and the fact that they provide breakfast (a beautiful 3-course meal you get to choose from options) is such a great value! It’s enough food to eat all day and then only have to dine out once per day - that’s what my kids and I do. They are incredibly accommodating and also have a great supply of gear for rent (kayaks, snorkels, etc.) ||It’s so stunningly beautiful as well both inside the rooms and all the grounds. We love it here!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Mereva for 4 nights, and it was one of the most relaxing and pleasant hotel experiences we’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly welcoming, warm, and polite — not in a forced or overly formal way, but in a genuine, laid-back manner that made us feel comfortable from the start. The atmosphere of the hotel reflects the essence of Tulum: calm, nature-forward, and peaceful. The room was exceptionally clean, housekeeping came daily, and the little touches — like towel animals that changed every day — were adorable and appreciated. The hotel is a non-smoking area due to the surrounding wildlife, which includes a variety of birds and pelicans. As someone from the city, I really enjoyed being surrounded by nature. I didn’t mind walking just a few steps outside to smoke, especially knowing it helps protect the environment. The pool and pier area were perfect for relaxing. My boyfriend and I spent our nights lying in the hammocks by the water, stargazing and listening to the waves — it was beautiful. A note to future guests: yes, there is seaweed, but that’s part of nature and not the hotel’s fault. It’s seasonal and affects the entire coastline, even the popular beaches. It didn’t take away from our enjoyment at all. The AC worked very well, which was a relief after spending time in the heat, and the water pressure and hot water in the showers were excellent. I’m very picky with showers, and this hotel exceeded expectations. We also had a king-sized bed that was perfectly comfortable. The breakfast included each morning was a pleasant surprise — the eggs were delicious, the juice was fresh, and the fruit made us feel refreshed and healthy to start the day. One thing that really stood out was how responsive the staff were. Our TV stopped working on the second day, and even though it was late at night, they offered to replace it immediately. They brought a brand new one within minutes. That kind of service is rare and speaks volumes. They also offer kayaking and snorkeling right from the property. We didn’t use those services because we had excursions booked elsewhere, but honestly, next time we might just stay and do everything here. The hotel is located just off the main road, with easy access to a nearby cenote (less than a 5-minute walk). We used a scooter to get around, and it was about a 15–20 minute ride into town. They have parking available for scooters and cars. Other small but great features: working hair dryers, double sinks, consistent electricity (they have a generator), and everything in the room functioned as expected. My only small regret was not meeting the hotel cat I saw in other reviews — hopefully next time. Overall, Mereva was the perfect first home for our Tulum trip. It was calm, beautiful, and thoughtfully run. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful escape from the busy world.

Yelp
Main stars off were the hotel was so expensive and you could hear music in the rooms at night from the bar. Complimentary breakfast was good. Staff were extremely nice and there was a free kayak and snorkeling tour we did. Rooms were clean and came with fresh bottled water every day. Two pools and several lounge chairs on the beach although they did fill up.

Yelp
The main issue with this place (which they can control) is food. For breakfast on 2 of the 4 days we stayed there, they ran out of many items on the menu. On one of the afternoons, we were served stale guacamole and my father in law got sick. Additionally, instead of serving butter with bread, they serve margarine. We think the owner does not do a good job of re-stocking the kitchen and the kitchen definitely seems understaffed. The staff on the other hand is mostly very helpful and friendly (but overwhelmed). They also tried to make an effort to make up for not having many items on the me The rooms are nice and spacious. Good access to the beach, kayaking, paddle boat and snorkeling. They had plenty of beach toys for kids, snorkeling gear and water shoes, all at no charge. They do massages on the water deck, which is an absolute treat. Lastly, the area loses power quite a bit and when that happens the AC does not work. Although this is completely out of their control, the govt needs to fix it.

Yelp
A quick five minute walk down a quiet dirt road from our Alea Tulum hotel, my daughters were craving pizza and couldn't do Mexican another night... so off we went. Mereva is in a small boutique hotel that has a variety of seafood, pizza, pasta and salad dishes. Nice staff and good food/drinks. We went twice over our weeklong Tulum stay. Would return if ever in that area again.

Yelp
This place is beautiful. It's beach front with 2 pools. Jose Luis and Javier and all the staff were amazing. What makes this place unique is the relationship you get to build with the staff which no big hotel can give you. This hotel was amazing but the service made the stay worth while. This hotel definitely creates that tulum vibe. Location is further from tulum town. But it's great after a busy day/night on the busy town. So we took taxis. If you are a plant mama like my best friends are, this is the place for you. They have a beautiful variety of greenery. Breakfast is complimentary. We had it at the restaurant a couple of times and then we had it in our room. Food was delish with so many options. We also got massages on the pier. It was so relaxing. As far as our room, it was spacious. We had a king bed with a queen pull out. Our hotel view was amazing. Our hotel room had wi-fi, a fan and AC and both worked well. You know you're close to the beach when you're able to smell that salt water. The beach had a lot of kelp/seaweed but apparently tulum/Cancun is known for that during certain times of the year. Staff are constantly cleaning it up off the beach daily. So we mainly used the pool. But overall, this hotel created quite the experience. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
This place is amazing, and my stay isn't even over yet! I wish I could give it 100 stars. This hotel is beautiful and has so many little details giving it the perfect indie/tulum vibe. My stayed in a master suite with a plunge pool over looking the ocean and it is beautiful, spacious, and clean! The staff here is awesome and very sweet. They pay so much attention and want to help in anyway possible. Thank you Luis and Manuel, you both have been so great to us on our trip. They also let people use kayaks, paddle boards, and bikes free of charge! We did a kayak and snorkel tour with a guide and got to see the reefs not to far away. Not to mention a delicious breakfast! Thank you all sooooo much, we will be back!

Yelp
I booked this hotel for my birthday weekend 1/7/22 and reserved the Penthouse - when we arrived there was no one at the desk to greet us and then when we check in we were escorted by the staff to our room and they couldn't get the door to open with the key tag - she went back down to the front desk to get another key only for the same thing to happen. She went and got some regular house door key and opened up the door. And then she left, I went back down to say umm hello can you provide us with a key how are we to get in and out of the room - she advised there was no maintenance on staff at the time. So I requested a manager to refund me my money because we couldn't stay there without a key & I had to last minute find another place to stay. And prior to that I asked did they have another penthouse they couldn't move us to and she said no. Needless to say it's April and I'm still fighting with this place to refund me my $3346.96 back to my card. I sure wish I used my American Express. The pictures look great but the beach area is not a true depiction of what you'll get.
