Probably the best decision I've made in my trip to Cancun was to spend two nights at the Menson del Marques. The hotel is beautiful and charming. It's not luxurious, but it's so quaint and elegant and at the center of town. There was free parking and good WIFi at the hotel. There is also a restaurant at the hotel, which may just be the best restaurant in town, especially if you're a picky eater or traveling with kids. That's because they have a wider variety of food that includes local, European, and American cuisines.
The staff are super friendly. The rooms were good (not great). If you are looking for luxury, I don't recommend it. But we got the room with the balcony facing the pool. It was also on the 3rd floor, where they have a nice seating area and a beautiful view of the park across the street.
The town of Valladolid is supee cute with TONS of local shops. Go walk around and explore. It felt super safe for us. At no moment did we feel unsafe.
By the way, things at the hotel, including in it's restaurant is more expensive than in the local shops. As an example, a water bottle there is $3, and there are places in yown where you can buy water bottles for $1 each. Coffe is also more expensive, around $6. Meanwhile, across the street, you can buy coffee for $3. With that being said eating at their restaurant is an amazing experience so you should have at least some meals there aside from the included (optional) breakfast.
One word of caution: I can be a little noisy in the evenings due to the songs from the restaurant and from the town (local bands will play at the park across the street).Early in the mornings, you will hear loud birds. They will wake you up. If you are picky abou that you may want to bring ear plugs, but that didn't bothers us because it wasn't too much that we couldn't handle and we welcomed the birds singing to us in the morning.
