Great location in the heart of Bologna. Amazing food and shopping all around. The roof is perfect to end the evening and enjoy drinks and views of the city. The breakfast buffet is also something to look forward too! AC is a huge plus too.

Disappointing Stay in a City That Overpromises||Bologna is a small city that suffers from some of the worst traits of a metropolis: dangerous, overpriced, and, especially in the city center, smelly and dirty.||The Hotel Metropolitan hotel, where I stayed, is not unsafe, but it certainly feels like a money grab.||Though billed as a four-star hotel, the experience falls short. On the surface, things look promising: the décor is tasteful, and the front desk staff—particularly the lady who checked me in—is courteous and professional. My room included a small separate small room with a fridge and daybed, plus a little private garden.||Unfortunately, the positives end there.||The bathroom was not very clean and the plaster was cracked in places in the shower, and there is mould in the shower too (see attached photos). The housekeeping was careless at best. On multiple occasions, the cleaning staff entered my room without knocking when I was inside. The first time this happened, I had just returned from walking in the summer heat (34°C), was about to shower, and was completely undressed when a cleaning lady walked right in. I yelled for her to leave and called the front desk. No apology was offered.||On the final day, someone walked in again without knocking while I was packing. This time they offered an excuse: “Non ha funzionato la domotica” (“The automation system didn’t work”), and did apologize—but only after I complained.||The breakfast is generous and well-presented, but the staff seem disinterested and borderline hostile, as if guests were an inconvenience.||Parking is another headache. The hotel uses a garage about 1 km away, where you're asked to leave your keys—but the staff does not lock the cars and leaves the keys inside. I had to leave two suitcases in the car (I was in transit between cities), and the attendants warned me that, even though they held the keys, they took no responsibility for the safety of my belongings. I ended up returning that night to empty the car myself.||In short: for €320 a night, I expected a higher standard of service, privacy, and professionalism. I know this is Bologna—a small city with a big attitude—but they can do much better.

Great little hotel close to the action yet on a quiet street. We ended up in a three person Executive Suite having paid for a Deluxe room, but needed two beds. The small twin bed was really a sofa bed and not that comfy, but the large queen bed was great. Rooftop terrace was lovely. Breakfast was great. Staff were all wonderful. Very good experience!

Our family stayed at Hotel Metropolitan for fours nights in June. All the hotel staff is incredibly customer focused, from the front-desk, rooftop bartender, and the breakfast waitstaff. |The breakfast has delicious choices and drinks on the rooftop are amazing. |The fitness center is not onsite which was unfortunate but Bologna is well suited for early morning walks before it gets too hot. |The air-conditioned rooms provided a nice respite from the heat and the hotel location is central to everything in town. |Molti bene - Highly recommend!

The hotel staff was wonderful and very helpful. The rooms, we had 2, superior and 1 family. The rooms where very spacious and bathrooms nice sizes. My only complaint is in the family room where there is an extra sofa bed the hotel charges 30 euros a day to use. I believe there should not be any charge since the bed is there. Or if there is to be an additional charge it should be a one time extra for the use.

Our family stayed three nights in the apartment affiliated with Hotel Metropolitan. It was great having the extra space and for our son to have a real bed. The air conditioning was much appreciated on the hot days. |The beds are firm but I found that to be true at all the hotels we stayed at in Italy. |Our apartment was on the 4th floor, not much of a view but did get a nice breeze with the open windows although it is loud at night. |The apartment is very close to the center of the city. The Via dell'Indipendenza is undergoing construction. So it can be challenging to find a crossing to access the other side of the street. We were not bothered by the noise from the construction. Also, note that this is a city with a more visible homeless population (with their dogs) then say in Milan, tucked into doorways along various streets. We felt safe wherever we walked but just were aware of our surroundings. Next door to the apartment building is a music venue. There was a concert there one of the nights we were in Bologna so the street can be very busy full of people waiting to enter the concert hall. Chinese restaurant directly across the street and a sandwich shop two doors down. Great coffee shop, Allegra around the corner on Via Galliera. We bought some snacks and drinks at Today Conad grocery store. |We did not utilize the hotel's rooftop bar or daily breakfast as the apartment had a kitchen and the hotel is about 2 blocks away.

😀 A really central hotel. Lovely room with balcony (room 401). Comfy beds. Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.||😬 No mirror in room! Watch out for small mini bar on wall above bin - I hit my head really hard on it - poor positioning. Sliding bathroom door not ideal for privacy.

Yelp
Centrally located, clean/modern rooms, and friendly service. I mean, what else could you ask for? The place is pretty much right in the middle of the centro, which puts it in walking distance of pretty much everything there. The rooms are reasonably large, clean, and modern, with everything pretty much working the way you'd expect it to. And the service is excellent - especially around the (excellent!) breakfast spread in the mornings. Mind you, that's for if that want breakfast - if all you want is an espresso, you can get that too :-) The bottom line - I have no complaints, and will probably stay there again...

Yelp
I am not sure why this hotel doesn't have a 5-star rating. It is in a perfect location, right down the street from the center of Bologna. The staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. It is clean and modern decor. Our room was big and had great lighting and air-conditioning, which was important as there was a heatwave happening in Italy. I would stay there again when in Bologna!

Yelp
Great location, clean rooms, great staff, FREE WI-FI, great price, comfortable beds, decent showers and A/C. Basically, that's all that really matters when you are looking for an Italian hotel in the middle of summer, right?! The walls are pretty thin so if you have the misfortune of staying near some, um, "loud" neighbors you might get a few laughs and not a lot of sleep. But, hey, you're more than likely on vacation if you are staying here so what does it matter?! You can walk to the train station from the hotel or they will happily radio a taxi. The square is a few blocks away and on the weekends (well, at least while I was there during the Summer festival time) the street near the hotel is limited to pedestrians which was nice! Close to the University section of town as well as farmer markets. Da Cesari is nearby too (eat there!) which was a plus.

Yelp
Great location, clean with new fixtures, and nice staff. The front desk gave a great dinner recommendation.

Yelp
It's an ok hotel, pretty clean. There's a slight smell to the room though and it's very odd the layout on the hotel itself. Just to get in the front door there are 2 steps (not the greatest with suitcases), then even after taking the elevator to our room you have to go up and then back down another 10 steps. It's a little dark too, not the greatest view from our room. The front desk was great, very helpful with what to see in the city. Also the terrace is nice, very quiet. Overall not bad, not great or memorable either.

Yelp
Easy to find. Quick, easy and friendly check in. Room was very clean, well appointed and surprisingly spacious. Location is perfect; within walking distance to everything. There is also a very nice cafe a block away for a good quick bite. Overall a very enjoyable and restful stay. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Cheers.

Yelp
Average in every way. Rooms are clean. Staff are helpful. But, bathrooms are tiny and rooms are plain. The shower was so tiny I gave up using it and waited for the next hotel. The mod, boutique-hotel look does not extend beyond the very small lobby. There is nothing to experience here other than a place to sleep.
