Hotel Metropolitan (Bologna, Italy) 12 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There are plenty of reasons to be fond of Bologna, from its status as Europe’s oldest university town to its extremely well-regarded culinary scene. Sophisticated and urbane twentieth-century design, however, has not commonly been held to be among Bologna’s attractions. You’re much more likely, in this town, to find yourself steeped in Renaissance splendor. But there are exceptions to every rule, and in Bologna, the exception is the Hotel Metropolitan." - Tablet Hotels

Delightful hotel. We spent two nights there as part of a two plus week vacation. Great location as easy walk to the train station as well as to the Piazza Maggiore and to Santa Stefano area. The primary street close to the hotel Independenzia is undergoing construction but the hotel was quite quiet. It was immaculately clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was outstanding with excellent service and we loved the rooftop lounge. The design of the hotel was very appealing and our vibe entirely.

We stayed on Thursday night ahead of the Radiohead gig on Saturday and I wish we’d booked the two nights here instead. Reception staff were brilliant, the room (102) was really nice, and the staff at the rooftop bar on Thursday night were so welcoming and helpful. On checkout, we were able to wait in the lobby while my daughter and I went to the shop for a few things and the staff were happy to order us a taxi when we were back. ||Breakfast was tremendous, beautifully presented, great selection, again the staff were great. ||If you’re in Bologna, I would recommend this hotel 100%. We will definitely return if we’re back in the city.

A lovely hotel with great staff. The service was terrific, from a warm welcome with early check in with no hassle, to the great service at the roof top bar, every member of staff we encountered was first class. Breakfast was terrific, great variety and everything made to a high standard. We were over for the Radiohead concert, so had our first night (Friday) in the city centre before moving to a hotel closer to the gig venue for the second night, I wish we’d had both nights at Metropolitan now that I’ve seen both hotels. We received a mid-stay survey which asked how things were going, I mentioned an extra pillow would have been nice and when we returned to the room later, an extra pillow had been provided with no fuss or announcement - great service and very impressive. When we left, the reception team allowed us to check out and wait for a short while while my daughter and I popped to the shop, and they were happy to arrange our taxi when we were ready to leave (taxi was there immediately!). When we are next in Bologna, we will certainly stay here again, mostly because of how great the staff were. Highly recommended.

On our first visit to Bologna we figured we would stay at the hotel Metropolitan because of its location in the city as it was fairly central to all the interesting areas and gave us a great place to start to explore from. One thing to note is that it is a bit of a walk from the train station, but the walk is nice and is mostly under porticoes which made it much more enjoyable. ||The hotel itself was very clean and nice and the room was set up very well. I did read from other reviewers about the odd shower/bathroom arrangement and I need to report that it was indeed a bit odd for us as well. Once we figured it out it was not an issue though and we got along with the bathroom/shower just fine.||The hotel staff was very friendly and the rooftop lounge was a great place to spend the later evenings and sometimes the late afternoons. The rooftop lounge had very nice views with good drinks and snacks. The breakfast downstairs was good, but I would only rate it a 6 out of 10 due to the lack of selection. I will tell you that the coffee was fantastic though!||We quickly fell into the timing of the Bologna locals which included a light lunch around 12-1pm, an Apertivo around 5-6pm with a very small snack and then dinner at 7-8pm. This is not our normal timing (being from the US), but once you get into the flow it works quite well and you can tell the time by the packed crowds at either the bars and/or restaurants. ||There is not much to complain about and it was a very nice stay. For those interested in Cars and/or Motorcycles you can visit the Lamborghini Museum, the Ferrari Museum in Modena or Maranello or stop by Rino’s Garage which is right around the corner from the Hotel Metropolitan located at Via Gallier, 2. Say hello to Reno for me!

This hotel is perfect location for exploring Bologna! Service at front desk was friendly, and room was nice and clean, bed was comfortable. The best part is the rooftop bar! Julio was amazing and provided the best service! The bartender Aldo made excellent cocktails! We will stay here again next time.

Google
Superb location. |Tired in areas. |Rooms are small. Linen/pillows and bath towels are not great quality. |Would be nice to have conditioner and body lotion added to the amenities in the bathroom. |Staff are excellent in their service. |Breakfast good. |Cleaning of rooms fantastic. |Rooftop bar great addition.|Avoid the first floor rooms as they are very noisy. We were woken at 5.30am with a group chatting in reception.

We stayed in one of their apartments which was a couple of blocks from the hotel. It was very clean and well equipped but it lacked any character, color or charm. The staff were very accommodating and brought us a space heater since the city has a law that doesn’t allow places to turn on their radiators before October 20. News to us. We didn’t know breakfast was included over at the hotel building until our last day which was unfortunate as it was a beautiful buffet with many options. The location was a short walk to the major avenues and sights so if you don’t want to spend time relaxing in your room, I would recommend The Metropolitan.

Good location. Plenty of room with kitchenette. Clean.|Was about 2 plus blocks from the hotel itself so we missed breakfast and happy hour. It was no big deal as we found ample food and drink establishments.|Bologna was easily walkable.|We had a phenomenal experience in the city!

Yelp
Centrally located, clean/modern rooms, and friendly service. I mean, what else could you ask for? The place is pretty much right in the middle of the centro, which puts it in walking distance of pretty much everything there. The rooms are reasonably large, clean, and modern, with everything pretty much working the way you'd expect it to. And the service is excellent - especially around the (excellent!) breakfast spread in the mornings. Mind you, that's for if that want breakfast - if all you want is an espresso, you can get that too :-) The bottom line - I have no complaints, and will probably stay there again...

Yelp
I am not sure why this hotel doesn't have a 5-star rating. It is in a perfect location, right down the street from the center of Bologna. The staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. It is clean and modern decor. Our room was big and had great lighting and air-conditioning, which was important as there was a heatwave happening in Italy. I would stay there again when in Bologna!

Yelp
Great location, clean rooms, great staff, FREE WI-FI, great price, comfortable beds, decent showers and A/C. Basically, that's all that really matters when you are looking for an Italian hotel in the middle of summer, right?! The walls are pretty thin so if you have the misfortune of staying near some, um, "loud" neighbors you might get a few laughs and not a lot of sleep. But, hey, you're more than likely on vacation if you are staying here so what does it matter?! You can walk to the train station from the hotel or they will happily radio a taxi. The square is a few blocks away and on the weekends (well, at least while I was there during the Summer festival time) the street near the hotel is limited to pedestrians which was nice! Close to the University section of town as well as farmer markets. Da Cesari is nearby too (eat there!) which was a plus.

Yelp
Great location, clean with new fixtures, and nice staff. The front desk gave a great dinner recommendation.

Yelp
It's an ok hotel, pretty clean. There's a slight smell to the room though and it's very odd the layout on the hotel itself. Just to get in the front door there are 2 steps (not the greatest with suitcases), then even after taking the elevator to our room you have to go up and then back down another 10 steps. It's a little dark too, not the greatest view from our room. The front desk was great, very helpful with what to see in the city. Also the terrace is nice, very quiet. Overall not bad, not great or memorable either.

Yelp
Average in every way. Rooms are clean. Staff are helpful. But, bathrooms are tiny and rooms are plain. The shower was so tiny I gave up using it and waited for the next hotel. The mod, boutique-hotel look does not extend beyond the very small lobby. There is nothing to experience here other than a place to sleep.

Yelp
Easy to find. Quick, easy and friendly check in. Room was very clean, well appointed and surprisingly spacious. Location is perfect; within walking distance to everything. There is also a very nice cafe a block away for a good quick bite. Overall a very enjoyable and restful stay. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Cheers.
