Hotel Metropolitan Nagano

We stayed here for our honeymoon 11 years ago and remembered it to be great so chose this hotel again recently for our Dec 2025 (2nights) pit stop. We yamato’ed and also left our luggage before check in and they conveniently have them in room post check in. Breakfast was amazing! What a spread! From western to traditional Japanese including local (apples & apple juice, soba). Didn’t try the tempura station cos the option was vast. 1 feedback though, the cooling system in our room didn’t work. Set for 18’c but room was stuck at 25’c. Despite outdoor being 1’c, leaving windows open overnight only reduced it to 23’c. Location is conveniently next to Nagano station (connected via level 2). Great walk to zenkoji temple. The counter/bus to Togakushi (platform 7) is also across the street (next to Donki) which the receptionist kindly guided us to. Will definitely come back again and thank you for looking after us! It was a wonderful stay.

First night in Japan. Deliberately chose this as right next to station. Could just stumble off the bullet train into bed ! Staff all v friendly and polite. Room was really good for 3 of us - great views of station city and mountains beyond. Bed a little hard but shower amazing ! Breakfast was a culinary experience. Mix of western and Japanese fare - we tried almost everything between us. Bacon egg sausage all great. Tempura and fried chicken were particularly good. Little filled steamed buns incredible. The pickled plum was a completely new experience. All for £9.63 a person. Well worth a visit.

We had a really great stay at this hotel. Really spacious room, very friendly staff, and a surprisingly excellent breakfast. It’s also very well located right next to the station, there’s literally a walkway connecting it with the main station building and a small mall which has a ton of places to eat and shop. They also had really great Christmas decorations 🎄. Highly recommended.

Very Convenient location, after exit gate turn right and enter Green Malll left side, at the end you have entrance to the hotel so no need to go out of Nagano Station, very convenient on rainy day or in winter. Room is small and tight but comfortable and clean, WiFi , safe, coffee pot and toiletries. Breakfast served from 6:30 at lobby level, both western and Japanese food, very good with variety to choose from. Front desk to concierge all professional and helpful ready to provide solution to any problem or doubt. There are 3 restaurant inside hotel, advise to book ahead as seating are limited.

Super loved my (multiple) stays here. Very professional and well organized, everything clean and comfortable and in good working order, and a great location, connected to the train station. But what really sets it apart is the level of hospitality provided by the staffs, all of whom were so lovely… such good attention in every circumstance, instantly recognizing the client and remembering their arrangement… top notch. Of course, I would recommend to anyone

The staff was very helpful and professional. Before our stay, I inquired about shipping our luggage to the airport, and as we checked in they had information for me for when I needed to bring my luggage down. Also, I didn't need to do any of the paperwork (as I did at Karaska Hotel in Tokyo). The staff took care of everything for me. All I had to do was pay for it.The hotel is connected to the train station via the Midori market place. From the second floor of the hotel we accessed the Midori market area where we purchased a lof of our omiyage(gifts for friends). The train station had about 4 floors of stores attached to it. We had breakfast at the train station -- a small udon stand. The location was very good and I would definitely book here again. The train station has a pedestrian bridge on the second floor that connects to the Don Quixote across the street. 2 km away is the Zenkoji Temple, where there is a shopping street and a large Buddhist temple to visit.Our room was cleaned every day and they were very conscientious and very careful. They left a note saying that any cups with liquids are left as is just in case. There was three of us sharing a room with two singles and an additional bed. The room was spacious even with three of us sharing. There was a little table with two chairs on the side.

Superb location next to Nagano station, in fact there is a direct link on the 2nd floor of the hotel. Hotel is also connected to many restaurants and department stores, supermarkets. We were happy with our large twin bedded room, which is clean and have a pleasant view. We recommend this hotel highly.

Adjacent to the station TICK||Friendly reception staff TICK||Super room and for just £60 a bargain TICK||Corporate in style but did the job for us acting as a base for our trip to the Temple. A solid offering and would stay again if I ever visited Nagano again which in fairness is as likely as Middlesbrough FC winning the Champions league...||Ooh forgot to say. Super Cocktail Bar on the top floor. Quality gin!

Solid Japanese business hotel with its best feature being that it's located right at the train station downtown. You don't even have to go outside to go to the train or go to the shopping center midori which is a bit plus when u are here in the freezing winter. There's plenty of restaurants also right around the hotel and it's walking distance to zenkoji temple about a mile where there is a cute old walking street with many artisan stores and restaurants that have been around for over 300 years. The rooms are small as expected for Japanese hotel maybe even smaller than other chains. It's in fine condition and completely usable. What I find interesting about Japan is that even though I have the same size room as when I'm by myself bc my husband is here with me this time, there is a surcharge of 9000 yen per day. So basically double even though the room is the same. I guess that's my American mindset but somehow doesn't seem right. I don't think there's a sauna or bath here like most Japanese hotels have. The breakfast buffet is great with a nice coffee and espresso machine that fresh grinds the beans and plenty of variety of local Japanese specialties. I think if you're coming by yourself it's a good deal. Not so sure if it's two ppl. If location is important than u can't beat this place. If value or amenities are important then maybe shop around. I see a bunch of other Japanese brand hotels close by like dormy inn so those might be ok too.

Centrally located next to Nagano Station, it is convenient for those needing a quick stay or business travellers. The hotel is in decent shape, the rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly. We were able to leave our bags with the staff as we were not able to check in yet, and made a day trip until we could check in. There is a Midori next to the hotel with many food options. As well many restaurants, a couple supermarkets, shops, and convenience stores are all within walking distances. There is free Wi-Fi and the rooms are equipped with air conditioning.

All in all, reasonable accommodations at a reasonable rate. The hotel is on the older side but not in poor condition in any way. With that said, let's breakdown what you'll be getting: Location: - Attached to the train station which makes it super convenient for day trips. - A little far from the historic / cultural parts of town so expect to need a couple taxi rides for that local flavor. - Near some pretty decent shopping / restaurants. Rooms: - A little basic but nothing was overly weathered or broken. - Cleaned well with no remnants from the previous inhabitants. - The fixtures are all on the small side which, in Japan, is to be expected. - The sheets, pillows, and towels are all really basic and little rough on the skin. - The heating / cooling is horrible. HORRIBLE. It doesn't hold a constant temperature and fluctuates about 10ºF at night so enjoy trying to sleep in that. - Noise isn't an issue; the hallway noise cannot be heard and only a little train track noise is present. Connectivity: - Free in room wifi which, when tested, came in at 5Mbps up / down. However, the network is heavily monitored and they'll kill VPN connections to "improve security". - Cable with around 15 channels and none in English. However, we did get two free porn channels at night so... bonus? Staff: - The front desk was helpful but not overly friendly. I was surprised a couple times at their lack of desire to ensure you were satisfied. - The wait staff was very helpful and willing to put themselves out to make accommodations for your needs. Breakfast: - Buffet style with your typical Japanese / Western fare. - Food is decent but it's the same menu every day. - Closes sharply at 10:00 so no sleeping in or you'll go wanting. So yeah, there it is. Nothing to write home about but if you're looking for plush accommodations, this isn't the place. Temper expectations before arriving and you'll do just fine.
