Our family had a wonderful stay at Hotel Metropolitan Nagano. The location is incredibly convenient—just a short walk from Nagano Station, which made getting around super easy, especially with luggage and kids in tow. The hotel itself feels polished and welcoming. Our room was surprisingly spacious by Japanese standards, which gave us plenty of room to relax after a day of exploring. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out, from the bedding to the amenities. The central location also meant we had easy access to shops, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby, which was perfect for evening snacks or last-minute essentials. Despite being so close to the station, it was quiet and peaceful at night. If you’re visiting Nagano and want a hassle-free stay with comfort and space for the family, Hotel Metropolitan Nagano ticks all the boxes. We’d happily stay here again.

We stayed at the Hotel Metropolitan for only one night as part of a larger trip. You can't beat the location. Its attached to Nagano train station. Lots of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance.|Hotel itself was very clean. We had breakfast included, like most Japanese hotels, it was a little weird for westerners.|The room was a good size, well set out and very clean. We had a 5.1 earthquake while we were there. Being on the 10th floor, we were a little concerned, but it coped well.|The bar at the top of the hotel had a nice view at night.|Overall a great experience.

Wow!!! What an amazing hotel! We stayed here for several nights and it was great! The location is perfect; it's so convenient. We didn't hear any train noise at all. Rooms are spacious and super clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful! If you stay, you should definitely get breakfast - this was easily the best breakfast we had in Japan. HUGE variety, with anything you could possibly want, and it's all delicious! Try the local apple juice!

A solid choice in a city lacking in good hotels. Rooms are small and bathrooms even smaller. However it’s quiet and the beds are ok with all the little extras you will need. Rooms have fridges so collect some fresh milk from a 7/11 if you like to have hot drinks in your room. The powdered milk supplied is not very nice. Breakfast more Japanese style and unfortunately as with many buffet breakfasts food is not hot enough.

My room on the 7th floor was comfortable and well-appointed. While not the largest room I've stayed in (around 18 square meters, I believe), it was certainly adequate for my needs as someone who mostly uses the room as a base for exploring. The bed was just right – not too firm, not too soft – and I slept soundly. I appreciated the thoughtful touches like the comfortable armchair with an ottoman, perfect for relaxing after a day out. The view from my window wasn't spectacular, overlooking a street partially obscured by another section of the hotel, but I could still see a decent stretch of the city skyline.

My wife and I stayed in a standard twin room for 5 nights in early May 25. The location is excellent as it is right beside the Nagano Station which was a key consideration for us given our travel plans around Nagano Prefecture. The station building has every modern convenience travellers require including supermarket, pharmacy, shopping and various food options. The room was functional but served our needs well. Only small quibble was that the bathroom was small and won't accommodate two adults in there at the same time. We were happy with the stay given the convenience

We stayed for 4 nights in a Deluxe King room towards the end of the Golden Week. This is probably the best and the only 4 star hotel in Nagano. In terms of location, it is right at the Nagano train station (connected via Midori, the shopping mall, on the second floor. You can get all your Nagano souvenirs from Midori), so it's convenient to get to other places like Matsumoto (1h by train), and the Snow Monkey Park (45mins by express bus at the station's East exit). There is a mega Don Quijote (that closes at 12am) right across the road, and many food options nearby.||The room was a little dated, but spacious and adequate. Service was great - we booked a kaiseki dinner at the hotel's restaurant Shinano via email. Checking in and out was also fuss-free, and they had umbrellas for guests to borrow. We also tried the spa at the hotel and had a full body massage, which was good.

Amazing experience! Was our best stay throughout our trip. Room was huge and came with a sitting area. The bathroom was luxurious, with amenities like skincare provided as well. Would've been perfect if body lotion was also provided. Pillows were unfortunately too soft and flat. As it's right next to the train and bus terminal, do expect some slight noise from the trains. Although the furnishings/design of the hotel itself is dated, the TV was surprisingly quite modern with access to the usual apps. The view was pretty nice. Service was good as well. The location of the hotel was the greatest plus point with direct covered access from the train station and bus terminal. Was perfect for hiding from the cold/heavy snow and for dragging our luggages around. There are also a couple of convenience stores and don quijote nearby. The mall that it's connected to has all the quintessential Nagano souvenirs, making it a perfect one stop as well. Would definitely recommend this room and would definitely be staying here again should we find ourselves in Nagano. :)

Yelp
Solid Japanese business hotel with its best feature being that it's located right at the train station downtown. You don't even have to go outside to go to the train or go to the shopping center midori which is a bit plus when u are here in the freezing winter. There's plenty of restaurants also right around the hotel and it's walking distance to zenkoji temple about a mile where there is a cute old walking street with many artisan stores and restaurants that have been around for over 300 years. The rooms are small as expected for Japanese hotel maybe even smaller than other chains. It's in fine condition and completely usable. What I find interesting about Japan is that even though I have the same size room as when I'm by myself bc my husband is here with me this time, there is a surcharge of 9000 yen per day. So basically double even though the room is the same. I guess that's my American mindset but somehow doesn't seem right. I don't think there's a sauna or bath here like most Japanese hotels have. The breakfast buffet is great with a nice coffee and espresso machine that fresh grinds the beans and plenty of variety of local Japanese specialties. I think if you're coming by yourself it's a good deal. Not so sure if it's two ppl. If location is important than u can't beat this place. If value or amenities are important then maybe shop around. I see a bunch of other Japanese brand hotels close by like dormy inn so those might be ok too.

Yelp
Centrally located next to Nagano Station, it is convenient for those needing a quick stay or business travellers. The hotel is in decent shape, the rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly. We were able to leave our bags with the staff as we were not able to check in yet, and made a day trip until we could check in. There is a Midori next to the hotel with many food options. As well many restaurants, a couple supermarkets, shops, and convenience stores are all within walking distances. There is free Wi-Fi and the rooms are equipped with air conditioning.

Yelp
All in all, reasonable accommodations at a reasonable rate. The hotel is on the older side but not in poor condition in any way. With that said, let's breakdown what you'll be getting: Location: - Attached to the train station which makes it super convenient for day trips. - A little far from the historic / cultural parts of town so expect to need a couple taxi rides for that local flavor. - Near some pretty decent shopping / restaurants. Rooms: - A little basic but nothing was overly weathered or broken. - Cleaned well with no remnants from the previous inhabitants. - The fixtures are all on the small side which, in Japan, is to be expected. - The sheets, pillows, and towels are all really basic and little rough on the skin. - The heating / cooling is horrible. HORRIBLE. It doesn't hold a constant temperature and fluctuates about 10ºF at night so enjoy trying to sleep in that. - Noise isn't an issue; the hallway noise cannot be heard and only a little train track noise is present. Connectivity: - Free in room wifi which, when tested, came in at 5Mbps up / down. However, the network is heavily monitored and they'll kill VPN connections to "improve security". - Cable with around 15 channels and none in English. However, we did get two free porn channels at night so... bonus? Staff: - The front desk was helpful but not overly friendly. I was surprised a couple times at their lack of desire to ensure you were satisfied. - The wait staff was very helpful and willing to put themselves out to make accommodations for your needs. Breakfast: - Buffet style with your typical Japanese / Western fare. - Food is decent but it's the same menu every day. - Closes sharply at 10:00 so no sleeping in or you'll go wanting. So yeah, there it is. Nothing to write home about but if you're looking for plush accommodations, this isn't the place. Temper expectations before arriving and you'll do just fine.
