Yelp
While this family-run hotel in a historic building is definitely "mignon" (cute, dainty), and one of the better values in Avignon if you're looking for a reasonable place to sleep, it has a couple caveats.
1) Do not come here if you have significantly more than the carry-on allowance of luggage. The stairs (elevator? what elevator? :P) are narrow and have tight hairpin turns, which are perfectly navigable with hand-baggage but probably no fun with more.
2) The bathroom in our particular room was, I'm pretty sure, a closet in the past, complete with a hanging rolling door that doesn't even attempt to latch or block sounds. It has now been tiled and plumbed to provide a toilet, sink, and small shower area that is at most 3' x 3' area and 6' high. If you are a larger person, or exceptionally tall, this will be a problem.
3) We had a bit of a problem with a strong eggy odor coming out of the shower drain trap in our room. It seems like it had dried out and thus plumbing smells were permeating the room, and the European AC was in no way capable of venting them out. Thankfully opening the window and strategically distributing some souvenir soap with Grasse fragrances that I'd purchased in Marseille fixed the problem.
This is a one-star sort of place, so be prepared for amenities to be only a small bar of soap and a WiFi code that you have to keep entering every time your device has to re-connect to the network. I think I've memorized it by now, and I'm only staying for one night.
Pros:
1) It is definitely lovingly maintained by the owners, who have a running collection of framed Festival d'Avignon posters in the stairwell, and who have decorated each room in a simple but appealing way.
2) It is extremely well situated - a very short walk to some excellent restaurants and about 5-10 min walk from the Palais des Papes. The owner provides a map of Avignon at check-in.
3) Again, a great value and much more personality than a chain hotel.
