We stayed at Hotel MIO during the second leg of our Bavaria trip while exploring Christmas markets. Our first stay in Munich was at Hotel Torbräu, and while I would recommend Torbräu over MIO, it is by a fairly small margin.
MIO’s location is excellent. It is just a short walk to Marienplatz, which quickly becomes a central hub when visiting Munich. There is also a U-Bahn station about five minutes from the hotel, with easy access to the S-Bahn at Marienplatz, making it very convenient for getting around the city.
That said, the rooms are very small. European hotel rooms tend to be compact, but MIO’s rooms felt especially tight. If space is important to you, this is worth considering.
Breakfast was good and worth having, but it is not included. Plan on about $20 per person if you choose to eat at the hotel, which I would recommend for convenience and quality.
Overall, Hotel MIO is a solid option and works well as a home base in Munich. However, on a return trip, we would likely choose Hotel Torbräu again, though MIO remains a perfectly reasonable alternative.
