"This incredibly pretty pueblo is Mexico’s artistic epicenter. But UNESCO-protected San Miguel, two-and-a-half hours northwest of the capital, had been resting on its Crayola-colored laurels, overlooking the trends of its creative counterparts around the globe. Enter first-time hoteliers Mariana Barran de Goodall and Taylor Goodall. After getting married here four years ago, they bought a 300-year-old former mayor’s residence in the cobblestoned center and transformed it into a guesthouse with cheerful touches to appeal to cool-hunting travelers. A lovely courtyard filled with bougainvillea, towering palms, and a cobalt-blue-tiled fireplace opens up to a salon with a mezcal bar and a café. Four stately ground-floor rooms have bronze four-poster beds decorated with Oaxacan textiles, paintings from the couple’s private art collection, and vintage furniture sourced from Europe. Upstairs is the fifth room, with a mural by Argentine artist Lucas Rise, steps from the rooftop restaurant Bar Margaret, which serves Latin-Southern small plates such as shrimp and grits topped with pico de gallo and a curated wine list heavy on labels from nearby natural wineries. Hotel Amparo knows exactly how to honor the history and artistry that have been the calling cards of San Miguel for decades, while making it modern. FLASH POINT Locanda will open in a parlor off the entrance by midsummer, with a rotating menu of handmade pastas and Sicilian wines. +52 1-415-152-0819; hotelamparo.com. How could you mess up with hotcakes? Food was bland. Rooms have no AC or a fan at least. No power outlets except in the restroom. Restroom window is right outside the area where one can sit in front so of course they can hear all the thunder sounds coming from the bathroom. I shouldve read the reviews to this place. Lol. Fml. Also... no fridge or microwave in the room. You want a fan, rent one out from the lobby.

Absolutely the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Rooms were filthy, water was cold and 0 water pressure. Manager was completely unavailable for discussion and front desk staff was rude when questioned about the water. DO NOT WASTE YOU MONEY OR TIME AT THIS HOTEL!!!

I checked out of the hotel two weeks ago and I cannot stress enough how bad the service in this place was. No AC, a lot of mosquitoes, very warm rooms, service in the restaurant sucked the waiter seemed like he was forced to serve our food, food was bland. I would not recommend this place at all. I stayed here because I was on a tour throughout Mexico and this was by far the worst. History of Mario Moreno whom was the former owner of the land is very interesting it is a shame the hotel chain does a bad job with the place.

The internet speed is really slow, and in my case, the bed sheets were dirty, it was very gross. I do not recommend it. This hotel claims to be a 4-star hotel, but I think it barely reaches 3 stars. This is a pet friendly hotel, so, plenty of hairs (different lengths and colors) were in the beds and in the carpet. Why would they decide to be a pet-friendly hotel while having carpet on the floors? And the location is not the best. It is quite a long walk to downtown from the hotel. Finally, there is no parking lot at the hotel. There is an empty and unattended lot behind the hotel that the guests use to park their vehicles (no guard nor security cameras) and basically it is like parking your vehicle outside on the curve. So, as conclusion: it is expensive, it is not comfortable, it is very dirty and, it does not have good location and the internet is the worst.

I spent one night here, it was nice. The only issue was that the door to the adjoining room was like an amplifier. The folks that care in late were loud and did wake me. Buț after the inițial jolt, I never heard them again. (I don’t know if they changed rooms.) The other negative was that there was not a safe in the room. I was told that the front desk would keep my “valuables”. I did feel safe, the grounds and room itself were clean and immaculate. The car park is across the street, and a gentleman was guarding the parking area.||I did have some Quesadillas from the restaurant, and they were tasty. The staff is friendly and willing to assist you.||I would come back.

My first trip into the heart of Mexico and it's historic beauty. The hotel is old world Spanish style with beautiful gardens and property. Rooms all had 2 double beds and a bit on small side. Bathroom was open concept with partition separating it from bedroom. Complimentary breakfast included. Rates very reasonable, I recommend, especially of on a budget.

I will just assume that the comments to the right of this page are not from Mexican people. As a well traveled family, we understand that the culture in other countries may not meet our expectations. Are we willing to accept? For us, what is interesting is the culture of others and it should be an indication that if it doesn't meet our standard, maybe we don't really appreciate what we do have. Most places in these small cities don't have air conditioning, and I do find that the bed's are much firmer than what we are accustomed too. We had the breakfast here and it was exceptional and the service was great. While you don't have the conveniences of your own home or country I think it is unfair to throw this hotel under the bus. This place has more plus factors, clean, beautiful landscape, nice pool and the service for us was great. Do some research before you make a selection on accommodations and location. Inquire with the hotel if they are able to set you up with an uber or taxi driver to take you around to the sites.

Our tour stopped here for lunch before going into the city center of San Miguel de Allende as it was prearranged. Why ???? is the thing I could not understand. Altho the hotel grounds looked nice it wasn't anywhere near being in the center of anything. Our group was seated at a long table and we were the only ones there. The food was prearranged as well so it consisted of a mediocre soup with bread, a bland tasteless dry flat chicken breast with plain rice and I gave up before the dessert. I have always felt there's no reason for bad food in Mexico, but this was the 3rd experience I had on this tour when the meal was included it was bland crap. It would have been better not to have had the lunch included and we could have just proceeded into the city center and had our choice of where to eat. This place left a bad taste in my mouth even before I truly saw San Miguel de Allende. Hey tour company....why are you making the deal with this hotel for this meal. Time for you to rethink this! And altho this is a tour complaint it also is a bad review for the restaurant now too.
