I was lucky enough to be able to stay here a few days for work and I'm already figuring out how to go back with my wife. Keep in mind that this island is more laid back and natural than Oahu or Maui. There are no productions going on here, the whole island is pretty down to earth as far as life goes so don't expect hula dancers and tour busses everywhere. There are chickens walking the grounds and roosters that yell at everyone at 5am, so turn on your AC unit to provide some white noise so it doesn't wake you up if you're a light sleeper. You might find a spider or a bug in your bathroom... just step on it and move on. Don't be a Karen and complain and let that ruin your day, they aren't calling an exterminator for you. The staff here are great and kind and love telling stories about local life or places to go sight seeing if you just ask. I would definitely go back. Be sure to check out the on-site gift shop too! They had allot of pretty reasonably priced stuff in there. Pros: - Beds were comfy and rooms had outdoor porches - The on-site restaurant was one of the best places to eat I found while I was there. Live music, great food, only open for dinner though Things I wish were different: - No place to put a laptop. A small desk or cabinet would have been nice to put electronics, or a backpack on even. - No options for breakfast. Even a bowl of fruit at the front desk, along with some granola bars or something would have been nice.

Charming, old Hawaii. Quiet, small hotel property with a funky local vibe. I would definitely stay here again, I felt I often had the place to myself, on "Gilligan's Island". The restaurant was not the best in the state, but it sufficed for such a remote, quiet place. Locals go there for dates/special occasion.

This quaint hotel was great and quiet. It is close to town but you still have to drive to town from there. There is a beach but it has a lot of ocean debris on it such as seaweed and other organic material. The staff was helpful and friendly and the restaurant was very nice as well.

One of the very few nice places on the Island for dinner. Good food, fresh, drinks, good service. We had a nice table right by the water with live music which was great. A local signer and guitar player which were really good. Potentially this is the beat place if you want a nicer restaurant in Molokai

Unless you stay in a AirBNB this hotel is the only hotel in Molokai. Very basic. Plastic seats at the pool. Hammocks need restringing. food is mediocre. Order a beer. Cocktails are average and wine is overpriced. When I was there the beach access was screened off but other than Kayaking you wouldn’t want to wade in the water.

Amazing staff! And called for an early check in and was helped out by Sonya and she ask me if it was only me , i said no there is my co worker to. My company book the room with one bed , Sonya came in clutch and got us a free upgrade from one bed to two beds. Time to get her a pay raise 🤩 room was clean and neat and will for sure be back. Thanks 🙏🏽 to all the staff and crew members that keep this place well keep and maintain. Much love and aloha. 🤙🏽

Love everything about Hotel Molokai. Quiet days, pool to myself, Hiro's bar and restaurant. Friday evening jam sessions with the old timers...epic. The staff couldn't be kinder or more helpful. Our favorite get away.

Good: The location is conveniently close to town, offering great views, amazing sunsets, well-maintained grounds, and an excellent restaurant. The staff, especially Ellen at the front desk, were fantastic and very helpful. Bad: The rooms are outdated, as mentioned in other reviews, though they were clean. There were also some bugs in the room. Additionally, the prices are steep, likely because it’s the only hotel in town. Ugly: The basic principles of hospitality—friendliness, customer service, adaptability, and flexibility—were lacking from the manager and another receptionist present in the afternoons. We requested a grace period of just a few minutes for a late check-out but were charged a fee for a five-minute delay (the listed checkout time was 10 AM, and we checked out at reception at 10:05 AM). While I understand that each hotel has its own policies, one would expect some flexibility from a place that charges $400 per night (incl taxes and fees). What was truly unacceptable, however, was the manager’s rudeness and condescending attitude. It was shocking to experience such poor hospitality from the manager, considering it is their responsibility to ensure a welcoming experience for tourists. The way we were spoken to made it clear that some people simply shouldn’t be in the hospitality industry if they don’t understand the fundamentals of customer service. This unfortunate experience and the rudeness we encountered left a bitter taste in an otherwise beautiful trip. That said, Moloka’i itself is truly stunning and the residents were genuinely warm and welcoming. Save your money and consider staying elsewhere, such as an Airbnb or VRBO.

Yelp
For a hotel built over 50 years ago, there is still so much pride that goes into this very quaint hotel. Definitely a place of retreat with just enough of what you need to find peace, comfort and relaxation. My room was very clean from ceiling to floor. I enjoyed the restaurant called Hiro's Ohana Grill, but note that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. I didn't get to swim in the pool but it was calling out to me. Hammocks near the ocean. Great customer service checking in and out. Simple life, and I loved it!

Yelp
In fairness, if Yelp allowed half-star ratings I would give this place a 2.5 -- 2.0 may be a bit harsh, but I just can't bring myself to call this place okay. The way the management handled a major issue with my room was pretty much a deal-killer as far as getting a decent rating, and there were other issues as well. On the plus side, it's an attractive property, with the rooms contained in woodsy, cabin-like buildings (though not actual cabins) scattered around nicely landscaped grounds. The pool is large and well-maintained, and the restaurant is a nice outdoor dining space, although I didn't try it because the menu looked pretty pricey. The front desk staff are pleasant and try to be helpful. My room, no. 103, was unimpressive for $281 + tax per night. The mattress was good, but the furnishings and decore were kind of random and cheap. The usual amenities were present -- small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker -- and worked properly. But there was one big problem and a couple smaller annoyances. The room's windows consisted of three tall, narrow sets of louvered panes (also known as jalousie windows). Someone had the bright idea that if they made the windows of frosted glass, they wouldn't have to bother with shades or curtains. WRONG. The grounds are brightly lit at night, and directly across from me were 2 big floodlights, one of which was aimed right at my room. As a result, when I turned my lights off at night, the room was still nearly bright enough to perform surgery -- bright enough that I had trouble getting to sleep. The next morning I asked at the front desk what might be done about this, and the desk clerk said she needed to check with her boss. I didn't expect an instant installation of shades or curtains, since no curtain rods were present, but I thought they might offer to move me to a less-bright room or compensate me some other way. Ha! The clerk came back to say that all they could do was give me a couple pool towels that I could cram into the louvers to create makeshift blackout curtains. That was it -- not even a complimentary drink at the hotel bar to make up for my trouble. Seriously? At these prices? The towels did help, though putting them up was a minor pain every night (and of course housekeeping took them when they cleaned the room, so I had to replace them), but this was such a chicken**** solution -- and I can't have been the first person to ever complain about this. My bathroom was weirdly spartan and had 2 smallish annoyances: There was no tub, just a open big shower with no enclosure. I suppose some think this kind of shower is stylish, but this wasn't an attempt at upscale decore -- the thing looked like it came from a Motel 6 in desperate need of renovation. And even with judicious use of the wand showerhead, there was no way to avoid splashing water on the toilet and floor that were right nearby. The bathroom had an unusually low ceiling -- a bit under 7' -- and because some idiot decided that a large light fixture should go above the mirror, the mirror was positioned so low that anyone over 5' tall (I'm 6'1") has to stoop in order to see themself in the mirror. This is such a simple problem to solve: Just put the light fixtures on the sides of the mirror instead of above, allowing the mirror to be moved up a foot. This could be a really nice place if the management cared. It's apparent that they do not. P.S. After my stay I got an automated text asking me to rate my stay on a 1-5 scale. I texted back, "2.5 -- see my upcoming Yelp review for details." I got an immediate response saying they'd escalate this to the management because my feedback was very important. That was yesterday, and I haven't gotten a followup yet.

Yelp
We picked Molokai just because it's an island we hadn't been to. Really glad I did. It is so mellow, and I don't think I've ever been this relaxed. Hotel Molokai is a great place to chill. It has these cute cottages that are Hawaiana and a pool and a great restaurant. There's also a sundries shop and an excursion desk. Like the rest of this island, this place is super mellow. Just quiet with beautiful grounds and some really lovely, soft live music in the restaurant next door every night. We really enjoyed our stay here and will book here again when we return to Molokai.

Melanie S.

Yelp
I thought the Hotel Molokai was charming. There are only a couple of options on Molokai, and some Air B&B's or condo rentals to chose from. We had garden view rooms, and they came with small balconies with patio tables and chairs, and since they were upper floors, kitchenettes. The rooms had coffee service, wine glasses, and some pots and pans for cooking, which would have been helpful with a longer stay. The upper rooms do not have AC. They have sliding patio doors and the top half of the room is open screened, with ceiling fans. It was a little warm, but manageable. The pool is small, but nice, and sunset by the beach was lovely. The wifi is terrible, and cell service a little spotty. I'd plan on this being an unplugged stay, with hiking and relaxing by the pool or in the hammocks at the beach, but you probably should not plan on Netflix on your personal devices. The restaurant was quite good, but they recommend reservations. There are some nice looking dinner options in town, or if you have a longer stay, grab some groceries and take advantage of the little kitchen and make some snacks and sandwiches. When we checked in, the staff put us in lower floor rooms, and then called and had us move to the upper floor, which was a little annoying. They said they were too full for us to keep the first rooms we were in. The upper rooms were larger, and I guess cost less due to the lack of AC. We could have fit our entire families into the rooms for less than $200/night, which was pretty cool. Note that the property is run by a highly vocal gang of chickens who start vocalizing around 3 AM. With all of the windows open, you can't really avoid hearing them, but you probably don't have concrete plans for the morning anyway, since it's a pretty low key island, so I'd recommend ear plugs or just rolling with it. It's Hawaii, those little stinkers are everywhere. I'd really like to return for a proper stay and hiking in the forested part of the island!

Yelp
One of the very few hotels you'll find on Molokai, and my first time staying here in August 2021 was a pretty good and decent experience overall. The rooms are decent and clean, plus you get free calls from their in-room phones given how poor the cell signal is throughout the Friendly Isle. Parking is included, and there is an on-site restaurant (didn't check it out however, as I preferred to go to the nearby Kaunakakai Town's eateries instead). My only real complaint is the wireless internet and the fact that it's "integrated", meaning that none of the rooms have their own individual router, plus the Wi-Fi signal wasn't all that great either and dropped out at times.

Yelp
Hotel Molokai is an absolute joke. Most of the reviews here are probably fake and done by locals. Here's some of the facts of my stay: 1. The lead receptionist at the front desk will have a terrible attitude upon your arrival as well as for your entire stay. She will treat you like a tourist, and if I had to guess, is probably racist (against Caucasian people) as a handful of Hawaiians are (especially a handful on the island of Molokai). Some seem to think that because I am white I had something to do with the overthrow of their kingdom before I was born. This same receptionist has a job in service sector. If you're reading this, do yourself a favor, don't work as a hotel receptionist if you're going to treat tourists as outsiders and have a bad attitude. 2. The rooms are not even close to as nice as the absurd price they are charging. Some of them are not air conditioned, there's bugs and roaches in the rooms, there's no black out curtains, and the rooms are extremely small. Some of our rooms had lofts where you could not even stand in your bedroom. 3. A lot of their ocean front rooms are on the second floor. That is not ocean front. The ocean view from this hotel is a dirty brown at all times. Literally 24/7. 4. The manager is never available. Good luck getting in touch with him. I asked for a late check out 2 FULL days before we were supposed to check out (asked for a simple 12PM instead of 10AM). The "manager" calls me at 09:15AM on check-out day and says no citing "operations". I finally got in touch with him at check out and frankly he basically could care less about his guests (catering to his cleaning staff over his guests). He will do whatever he can to take your money and then do whatever to get you out of the rooms as soon as possible. He had his staff start to call my room at 10:15AM on the day of check out to get us pushed out the door on a Sunday (when he admitted there was no occupancy in the rooms for Monday). This is after leasing 3 rooms from him, paying him over $5000, dining in his restaurant 3 times with 9 people (with average food at best), and staying for 5 nights. 5. Every morning at 5AM, the sun will blare in your room from the east and if that doesn't wake up early, the hundreds of ROOSTERS on the property will be sure to wake you up. Beware: Unfortunately, Molokai has very few hotel options so Hotel Molokai basically has a monopoly on the island and they take full advantage of it. Bottom Line: They want your money. They know they are the only act in town. Once they get your money, you'll feel like you were ripped off and in a rotating door. They talk down to you. Don't stay here.

Yelp
Best food on the island! Ate there two times during our stay. The pink snapper was the bomb!

Wizard W.

Yelp
I stayed here with a few friends and let me say their is definitely a reason they call this island the friendly isle. The people were amazing, staff was extremely accommodating. Their car service was on time, kind, helpful and friendly I believe the representative working was named Isiah who also did tours and bartending. Phenomenal service. The only reason this place wouldn't get 5 stars is their limited options for dining at the resort, quality of food and older pool area however given that is is a smaller island that is understandable. Would stay here again.

Kamaka C.

Yelp
The hotel was built in 1968 but is well cared for. The rooms are clean and comfortable and they had REAL pillows!!!! the grounds are peaceful and nicely maintained. Hiro's restaurant has a varied menu and everything I have eaten there is very good. I have been there several times in past visits and the food and view never disappoints. The icing on the cake is Hawaiian music at the restaurant. The nights we have gone there was classic Hawaiian music not reggae, country or rock and roll. When I watch a beautiful Hawaiian sunset and I want the music to match. The staff is friendly and helpful and do anything they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Angela C.

Yelp
Small and dark hotel room for over $200 per night. No phone signal, the hotel Wi-Fi worked poorly. The Ohana grill restaurant Wi-Fi is not allow to be given to guests. Be aware of the daily resort fee of $10 dollars. The pool is the size of a regular bath tube times 4. The room is less than 200 SF. At 3am, I woke up by the strong smell of manure, then kept awake by the car noises. The coffee creamer seemed to have expired years ago, it was suppose to be powder creamer , but the powder had combined in to a piece of hard sheet. The bed sheets are not comfortable, the 4 pillows, they are all too high. Same hotel room can be booked on VRBO or Airbnb for half price instead. The hotel shuttle can take you to town that's 2 miles away, but Doreen, who operates separately and independently from the hotel, charges $5 dollars per person to ride her van, for a family of 4, that will be $40 dollars. Doreen also offers airport pick up and drop off for. $50 dollars Cash Only round trip. But make that you confirm and reconfirms with her.

Allia W.

Yelp
disappointed and very bad service and old food that taste very bad here at Hotel Moloka'i and very noisy with lots of construction noise and roaches and bugs i would not recommend staying at Hotel molokai ! very bad service and food is terrible and disgusting!!! : ( Way too overpriced as well !!!

Alexander G.

Yelp
There simply aren't many options on Molokai for where to stay. There are a handful of condos and rentals around the island, but the largest hotel is this one. They offer kama'aina specials on the website, but many of the rooms are privately owned and are for rent through various online apps. The hotel is located on the south shore of the island, a few miles outside of Kaunakakai. It's a quick drive from the town, but not walkable. The hotel offers shuttle service from the airport for $25, or it's an easy drive with free parking for a rental car. The hotel is a number of bungalow type buildings, many single story with a few double. Each building has the name of a Hawaiian island. The grounds are kept amazingly green and well manicured. There are trash and recycling bins around the property. The lobby has a few tour desks and a gift shop. In the center courtyard is an ice machine and vending machine. Guest restrooms are in the main building along with Hiro's Ohana Grill (see my other review). They have a wonderful pool, beach access (no swimming here), and hammocks both on the beach and in the courtyards. This is the kind of hotel that if you're looking for a relaxing weekend, you may never want to leave! Rooms are older but cozy and comfortable. Each room has a lanai with a table, perfect for spending time outdoors. At night, there are a lot of flying insects, so be prepared for that. The property is small and easy to walk around. I would love to stay here again!

Yelp
Hotel Molokai December 7-14, 2019 General Manager: Michael Drew Security liaison: Jason Hotel clerk: Jasmine, Carolyn, Sonya Activities desk: John Impeccable customer service appreciation. Our joyous stay will always be unforgettable. We loved the calm, humble, and friendly attitude displayed by all staff members at the hotel. Our inquiries were answered in a timely & respectful fashion. The Hotel Molokai is the ultimate place for leisure travelers. It is absolutely fabulous! They have an amazing team of staff who want guests to feel welcome and enjoy their stay. From the General Manager down to the Housekeepers, they execute an outstanding service. If you are looking for a place to relax this is the perfect place to be. The hotel is right beside the most peaceful and stunning oceanic view I have ever seen. Will be returning to this excellent hotel for sure.

Jewels Constance W.

Yelp
I stayed here from March 17-21 and had a delightful and relaxing time. Although I've stayed here 18 years ago, this time the rooms were light, bright, clean, and well kept. Sleeping right next to the ocean was so nourishing for my soul. Waking up to the beautiful ocean views looking over towards the island of Lanai was the perfect way to start my days and journal. Dinner at the hotel was delicious too. Their fresh salads are excellent portions, I really liked their shrimp scampi, and they have an excellent selection of wine. The general manager of the hotel, Michael Drew, was exceptionally professional and accommodating and made sure each guest was well taken care of. If you need a little or a lot of relaxing time this place will definitely sooth your soul. It's Just the right size and atmosphere for singles, couples, business (if you really have to) or families.

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 nights and wouldnt have done it any differently. Remember you are on Molokai-so set expectations accordingly and go with the flow. As the only hotel in Molokai, and centrally located near town its the perfect place to land and get acclimated to the island. We stayed in a second floor unit with a lanai and a loft. Some of these units are the hotel, others are privately owned and you can find them on airbnb. The grounds are meticulous. There are chickens and roosters roaming about. The pool is small but near the ocean and restaurant. The unit was okay. It had a galley kitchen that was pretty well stocked. The unit had sooo much furniture which made it feel smaller than it was. It also is pretty dated and could use some updates. The stairs to the loft (where there were 2 twin beds) is not kid friendly. However the loft is really only suitable for small kids since it has a very low ceiling. The lanai was very nice. There are some mosquitos so bring mosquito spray. Our unit had some road noise (but it looks like all accomodations near town and further east sits in the narrow strip between the road and the water) so same issue for all lodging. We did a day driving to murphys beach to snorkel and to halawa park. Recoomend!! Great scenic drive with some fun stops along the way. Note that the hotels restaurant is closed monday and tuesday. Also wifi is pretty spotty and cell phone coverage not great either. The oceanside restuarant was expensive but pretty good and has a great view. Again great place to get acclimated, check out the east side of the island, get groceries etc and then i recommend going to west side of the island because thats where you will find the drop dead gorgeous beaches of your dreams!

Michele B.

Yelp
Hotel Molokai is such a special place. It has an old Hawaiian feel and friendly staff. The room was comfortable with a nice bed, linens, AC and cute porch. The hotel has an activity desk where you can book excursions, rent beach chairs and snorkel gear. There is a great restaurant and bar right on the water with nightly entertainment. The pool was small and could use some updating but other then that this place is great and reminded me of my childhood days in Hawaii. I would stay here again.

Lee D.

Yelp
It is what it is, a cute hotel on the waters edge that makes you feel like you're on Fantasy Island or some through back to the 60's and 70's of ticky tacky postcard scene of old Hawaii that used to be. It's a complement and not a swipe at the hotel style. We really enjoyed our stay there along with the layout, room, as well as friendly staff. The hotel is perfect for those that want to get away, do nothing but relax. Read a book by the pool or while take an afternoon nap in a hammock are about the most lively things going on there except for the chickens on the property. The rooms are clean and have just the right immensities to make for a comfortable stay. There is a restaurant on the property that serves lunch and dinner, but only does breakfast on the weekends. There is also a bar attached to the restaurant if you want to sit and relax before dinner. I highly recommend making reservations for dinner as it does get busy and seating is limited. The lobby staff were all very pleasant as well as the maid and grounds staff. Everyone smiled when you walked by, which was very nice to see. It's small hotels like this that can show real Aloha verses the big resorts that train their staff to be fake.

Lynda T.

Yelp
Great service and food. Right on the water! Good music at dinner. Kristen was a great server, very attentive

Sam D.

Yelp
Thinking of the other Islands.....everything I read so far is 2 thumbs up.....even the roosters, come on only rooster, Kauai was nice with roosters too. So o LT 3 stars u til I go, I'm sure it will be 5.

Bill H.

Yelp
Roosters woke me up every morning at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, etc. The hotel lets them multiply and run free. Stay as close to the ocean as possible to help drown them out if you have to stay at this hotel. I will not be returning.

Jodi P.

Yelp
Every time I come to Molokai, I come to Hotel Molokai and eat a meal with my grandfather. The service is always great - the hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. Molokai is such a small island that at least one person would recognize my grandfather and start talking stories with him - which is wonderful!! I didn't stay here but the hospitality is wonderful. Today, I came here to support a family friend's daughter who was dancing hula at the hotel for a cruise. The equipment worked well, seating arrangements were setup nicely so everyone can watch the performance easily, refreshments were readily available for the guests, and the weather was beautiful - not too hot and not too cold. The hotel has a great view of the beach and can easily see Lanai from Hiro's Restaurant and Bar :)

Hope Y.

Yelp
Location 5 stars Staff 5 stars Restaurant and bar on site 5stars sunset views 5 stars laundry on site 5 stars free parking 5 stars free wifi 5 stars Horrific stench coming from nearby septic tank when the wind blows a certain way 00000 stars The room is a little out dated, but very quaint and cozy. Depending on your unit location, you might hear some street noises, and you might even hear your neighbors (so that means they can probably hear you). The unit I was in had an outside seating area, and a sliding screen door. The hot water takes some time to kick in, so remember to heat it up for a bit. It took nearly 10 minutes to warm up in the morning. The staff are super friendly and although the bar closes at 9pm, you can take a drink to go back to your room at the end of the night. When I asked about the smell, the staff apologized and said sometimes it gets really bad and you can smell it in the restaurant. I was jolted awake by the smell, and had to quickly decide: do I open the windows and hope it blows out, or do I seal the windows up and wait the smell out with out air conditioning. I chose the first option, and luckily the smell blew out within a half hour or so. Live music in the evenings, and if you are lucky you might get a hula show as well. Great little place, next time I'll ask for something on the West side of the property.

Vanessa F.

Yelp
Hotel Molokai is truly paradise. The staff are friendly and welcoming. If you plan to visit Molokai, Hotel Molokai is the place to stay. It is close to downtown. The restaurant Hiro's serves delicious food and have live music every night.

Terry R.

Yelp
Decent, clean rooms, nothing fancy. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location, beautiful grounds & ocean view. Love the chickens! Nice to have in-room coffee service, lunch service is very good and well-priced.

R S.

Yelp
I could not sleep at the hotel because the roosters SCREECH all night long- especially 4-7AM!! I talked with the staff, but they could not remedy the situation as the roosters are all over the property. I asked to talk with the manager daily, but the manager would not talk with me until I was about to check out. He did nothing to compensate me for the lack of sleep caused by the rooster all over the property!!

Beth F.

Yelp
Hotel Molokai is a laid back hotel which gives you an old 50's-60's vibe. Definitely not upscale but that's the drawl for us. Staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming. Views from the hotel grounds are beautiful, although the beach area is not conducive for snorkeling or swimming. Decent pool on the hotel grounds. Gorgeous views of the neighboring island of Lanai. Bar and restaurant have decent dinners, good pupus (appetizers), and drinks. Live music definitely adds to the ambiance. Our room had AC (thank goodness), and although was "dated", it was clean and had everything we needed. We would definitely come back for another visit.

Ryan W.

Yelp
We love this place, located conveniently near town - vending machines and retro vibe- small and quaint.

Rae W.

Yelp
As you drive along the ONE main road on Moloka'i, you will see a sign that says, "Visit. Spend. Go home." Upon seeing that, I thought, "This might not be 'The Friendly Isle' after all." I was wrong. From the moment we walked onto this property, we got nothing but stellar service. We went to the Front Desk to see if we could leave our bags in a secure area until the afternoon "check in" time. The woman was super friendly and said, "Sure." Then, she made a phone call. By the time we hauled our bags from the car to the lobby, the woman said, "Your room is ready." To us--and we have traveled all over the world--this was amazing! She even told us where to park, so we'd be a mere 25 steps to our room. Our room was clean and fully equipped. It even had a well-appointed kitchenette with a stove, a microwave, and a refrigerator that was not filled with overpriced drinks. It was empty and ready for our use! There was even a lanai outside. During our stay, I would learn that fish jumped right outside our front door in the morning, the pool was about 10 steps from our room (but the building structure meant we were not bothered by noise), and a wonderful restaurant was on the other side of the pool. Whether it was a cleaning person, a waitress, a bartender, or a store clerk, the personnel at the Hotel Moloka'i rivaled the ones at some of the best hotels in Italy and Scotland, where we have blessed enough to stay in prior travels.

Yelp
Worst hotel ever. Do not stay here, the beach collects seaweed that rots and smells like a latrine, 24/7. Had to move from our "ocean front" room to the road to get away from the horrible smell. the onsite store is closed, the onside private restaurant is closed, but wait....there is a prom tonight. So let's go to a restaurant in town, well guess what! No one is open on Monday night. So I get to sit in a crappy smelling room, being harasser by roosters and chickens who shit on my patio and smell the crap of the sea! What a wonderful vacation.

Yelp
This review is due to be done for a while... I did not know what to expect from Molokai hotel and was just happy to have a bed and shower... because we were ready to camp out if there is no hotel available there... To our surprise, the hotel is quaint and clean... We got the one bed bungalow by the beach... The room has basic stuff, comfy queen bed, clean bathroom with bath and body work supply... We love the quite beach and view of Lanai island from our room... Had breakfast at the hotel restaurant with great local food! You are not going to get five star facilities here... There is no spa, no shopping malls or gourmet restaurants here... But I'm sure you don't come to Molokai for these treatments... You come here to experience old school Hawaiian, layback styles, quite time... We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back!

Yelp
I was extremely happy with the service from all staff, especially the man in the shop. The reason for the 3 stars varies for a few reasons. First and most importantly being the infestation of ants/small spiders we had in our room. Upon arrival, there were hundreds of ants covering the kitchen, making it pretty much unusable the entire time- since they kept showing up even after killing and cleaning. Second, there were 3 beds stuffed into one room, almost like a studio apartment, but leaving nothing but a walkway, small enough for a child. Third, we somehow got the ONLY room of the building that had no air, and only a faulty ceiling fan- the 'windows' were screens, which is how we think the obscene amount of bugs kept getting in. Lastly, while I know this is completely out of staff control, the roosters arrive in LARGE groups, to make sure you wake up bright and early on your vacation! If I weren't coming from somewhere with a time difference of 5 hours earlier, this may not have been so bad. Despite the numerous complaints, there was a nice view, and staff were as helpful as they could be.

Yelp
we loved being here at this cozy little hotel complex . the room was very cozy and comfortable , almost like a suite . We had a nice lanai adjacent to the bedroom and it was a very comfortable accomodation. We did not eat here but we did experience the bar and the house band . The house band was great , very enjoyable and the bar makes a great Molokai Mule . I took many pictures firth thing in the morning of the view out over the water looking over to Mauai (?) I really like this hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who is visiting the island . It's pleasant , quiet and scenic . The amenities are adequate and we got a great nights sleep every night we were there . As a place to lay your head its very nice .

Yelp
Loved our stay at Hotel Molokai ! Room 218 Is the best room if u have 4 kids and 2 adults . The room is at the end so we were conveniently parked in front of our room. The kitchen was great for cooking when we didn't eat out not to mention it has everything you need to cook and utensils so u just need to stop by friendly market for groceries.Short walk to the pool and the Bar is by the pool where we enjoyed some lava flows (thanks to the beautiful bartender for introducing it ) while the girls swam . Great room ! Clean and big balcony that has a big table and chairs where the kids all sat around and ate and played cards. It was my second time staying here and this time was even better than the first due to the bar and restaurant being open . Last stay it was still under construction. The staff is friendliest I've experienced and that's another reason I will go back. Usually hit the beach when we visit but the girls loved the pool so we ended up at the pool every day . Thanks you Hotel Molokai and the best customer service and staff ever!

Yelp
The front desk service was excellent and very welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable with a microwave, iron & board, coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. Nice pool and hammocks on beach. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Great, clean hotel with friendly staff. Amazing beds! Restaurant night manager is a walking disaster. We received a piece of fish that couldn't be eaten due to bones. The manager wouldn't come to our table to help with the issue and instead offered a discount on the meal rather than replacing it. The waitress boxed the meal because a bite had been taken out of it. We refused it. We were made to wait an hour for the meal to be replaced. Then the waitress asked if we'd saved room for desert! We were seated at 6:30 pm and finally got our last meal and check at 9:00 pm. The entire time the female manager was visable at the nearly empty bar in sight and did nothing. That untrained restaurant manager ruined the night for us.

Yelp
Great people. Great facility. Convenient and beachfront location. Clean rooms and facility. Molokai blew our minds after spending many months on Oahu. No stop lights. No traffic. One lane highway near the end on the east side. The east side drive to the view of the falls and the bay was a top ten lifetime drive. Free snorkel sets to borrow. Fantastic restaurant in the facility with live Hawaiin music every night and great food and service. We are looking forward to going back. On Friday night of Earth Day weekend every year there is a wonderful evening well attended event about a mile away from the hotel with authentic Hawaiin music and culture. Most of all the hotel staff and restaurant staff stood out as being patient and kind with us and our numerous young boys. There was also an Easter egg hunt in town and a shell hunt at the hotel. Beautiful weather and a beautiful place. Unlike any of the other Hawaiin islands. Truly unique experience. Flew over on Mokolele Air. No TSA. No lines. Free parking. Very affordable. Super short flight and a very scenic tour from Honolulu. Highly recommend taking a hop to Molokai from the other islands. Maui would be an even shorter flight. Amazing.

Yelp
The restaurant at Hotel Molokai is an outdoor restaurant with a beautiful view of the island of Lanai in the distance and ocean front seating. The restaurant itself was nothing fancy... that was expected since most of Molokai has a laid back atmosphere. On our weekend trip to Molokai, we ate at the restaurant twice. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. Dinner, I had ordered salmon with baked potato and broccoli. The salmon was good... I didn't care for the crunchy white noodle on the bottom. The baked potato wasn't what I expected but it was DELICIOUS! I could eat that by itself as a meal!!! Almost tasted like a potato gratin. The dinner comes with a salad with choice of dressing and bread. For breakfast, I had the seafood omelet (forgot what it was called on the menu). It had crab and shrimp and it was delicious! I ate the entire omelet!!! The view was nice both in the morning and early evening.

Yelp
The oceanfront rooms are situated beautifully, so you could almost forgive the somewhat grotty bathrooms, grubby interiors, pillows that are much too thick and firm to actually sleep on, noisy tour groups that come and go, paper-thin walls (see above), and cramped rooms. But the real problem is the dishonesty of the management. We prepaid in full for five nights, but had to leave after four due to a family emergency. Upon checkout, they gave us an itemized bill, explaining that a credit of $111 would be put back on our credit card for the unused night, minus food and beverage charges. Very nice! But two days later, back in Canada, there was in fact no crefit at all, but another unexplained charge instead. I wrote them to inquire, but got no reply at all. Needless to say, we'll definitely be staying elsewhere when we return in a couple of months.

Yelp
What a lovely place. The grounds are very well cared for. The room we got was a perfect size for 2...nice little lanai, comfortable bed, flat screen tv with cable, mini fridge & microwave & updated vanity/shower. It's pretty quiet although parking can be tricky in the evening now that a new restaurant has opened, but we were always able to find a spot. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Be careful and plan well! Check-in: They ran out of cards so our group shared one room key. Wifi: The whole island is a deadzone for t-mobile and At&t. Verizon wasnt much better. Their wifi in hotel was free but didnt work at all. The ATM machine is also wifi and often breaks. Dont count on technology on the premises. Room: Mosquitos!! Killed 5 before getting to sleep. Room 202 has a constant sound of chickens crowing and cars passing. The loudest chickens were at 2am. The windows are screen, not glass so no air conditioning or sound control. Cleaning: we wanted 1 of 3 beds changed. They made it, but didnt change the sheets which had sand and dirt on them from previous day. They also didnt clean out the coffee machine, or clean up the kitchen area. Basically, they dont clean. Staff: Friendly and helpful but be very careful of when they are on duty. We called the front desk about 10:30 for a wakeup call and nobody answered. When we left at 5:30am there was nobody at the desk for checkout. But unless you book a house or condo you will stay here. It's the only hotel, lol!

Yelp
We had an amazing time with my husband last week! Everyone from day one to our checkout were nice, helpful and down to earth! Our room 114 was clean, quiet and had no issues. We wish we would've have book our room for one more day. We are definitely coming back, if God willing this the summer with our kids. Thumbs up!!!!

Yelp
Excellent customer service. The staff is genuinely friendly and attentive. I loved the evening shows and the scenery. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We gave Hotel Molokai 5 stars. Why? People are great. They are warm and friendly. The happy hour at the bar is great and after a flight and dragging yourself around, happy hour is important. At the bar you will make friends with locals and laugh a lot. Then dinner at the restaurant is surprisingly inexpensive and great food. I had 2 pasta dishes ( not on the same night) both were very good. You will be pleasantly entertained with Hawaiian music and if your lucky a woman may get up and dance traditional dance and your heart will fall even more in love with Molokai, the people of Molokai and Hotel Molokai. Michael we will be back ;) If your looking for a high end resort don't bother coming to Molokai.... it's simple, peaceful and low key.

Yelp
Aloha Molokai! (This is what I wanted to say upon arriving here!) I knew nothing about where to stay on Molokai but I had a friend who had stayed here many times and loved it. So, we decided to give it a whirl. I'll say this: Hotel Molokai exceeded our expectations. Our room. If I could give it more stars I would. It was so nice. Comfy, cozy and I'm pretty sure it was the BEST room in the whole place. Pro tip: upgrade to room #135. It's ground level and it's small, BUT you'll literally be ON the ocean. Well, maybe not on it, but it's right out the door. Only one neighbor next to you and one above you. We scored a weekend with no one above or next to us. It also has a semi-private lanai facing Lana'i and in the morning we could hear the small waves lapping outside the door! What a peaceful way to wake up. At night, the sunset was awesome and right off our lanai! The bed was super comfy. They had room darkening shades to help with the sunrise but let's be real: it's ME. I don't go to another island and sleep-in and miss the sunrise. No way. I was up before the sun was... waiting. (lol) The bar area was just far enough away to not be too loud, but close enough for us to enjoy the nightly music. The grounds are well kept and full of flowers and cool trees. I saw two hammocks that were up for grabs too. I didn't use the pool but we did sit pool side and listen to music one night. The kids and adults like to hang here and catch some sunshine. Parking is plenty out front and on the side. Check-in was a breeze and there are maps there to show you everything you need to know about Molokai. The staff was friendly and helpful: just make sure to bring the aloha when you come. Don't change Molokai, let Molokai change you. I can't wait to come back and experience Hotel Molokai in the summer! If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, this is it!

Yelp
There will always be a special place in my heart for the Hotel Molokai and I look forward to my next stay. It is 100% the best hotel on the island. The room I had didn't have AC, which wasn't a big deal for me because at night it cools down enough for you to sleep, especially with the fans going. However, if you are sensitive to heat, and unable to sleep when it's 80 degrees (some people are) then you should request a climate controlled room when you book and remind them you want a room with AC when you check-in. As for the staff, the people who run the hotel are really all very welcoming, especially Michael the manager, who should run for Mayor of Molokai because he's literally the best! You can't beat the location, about 1.5 miles from the main town. They offer mopeds for rent right on site, which I highly recommend you take advantage of because life is just more fun on a moped. They also provide you with a robust list of local business where you can rent a bicycle, cars, etc, and they go out of their way to help you. Plus the hotel boasts one of only 2 restaurants on the island, which makes a fantastic Pina Colada btw, and it's really quite convenient to just roll out of your room, walk 15 feet to a restaurant with the best sunsets on the island. So if you're planning a trip to the island and wondering whether you should stay here, I would strongly encourage you do!

Yelp
OMG! This place is simply awesome! Yes, I will admit that the food is just okay, nothing special. Ate breakfast one morning and late night dinner on a couple other occasions. Really can't complain because there really is not much else in the immediate area. Besides, I came here mostly for the bar and entertainment which this place is known for. Lovely view of Lana'i Island from the bar and lounge area. The best sunsets that I have seen in a long time. They have live music every night here and the musicians are very talented and very outgoing! The staff at the bar are great and a lot of the customers that frequent the bar are residents of other nearby condos that are the friendliest people I ever met! They go out of their way to greet you, talk story and some even bought drinks for my friend and I! If you ever head down to Molokai, you gotta check out this place!

Yelp
This location is a true jewel in Hawaii. We also visited Maui but Molokai was much more how we envisioned our honeymoon. Serene and romantic! The sunsets at the restaurant were amazing. Food so good rarely went any where else for dinner. Also the property management was great. When I told them about it being our honeymoon they gave us an Oceanside room. Could literally walk right out. Unfortunately the beach is not for swimming but the pool was always clean. Also love that it was not over populated and very quiet. Many times we were the only ones in the pool or at the bar. Will definitely stay here again!
