Rats in the Kitchen, No Help at All, and a Broken Elevator — A Truly Alarming Stay Our stay at Hotel Monsieur Ernest in Brugge was extremely disappointing, and I feel compelled to share our experience so others can make an informed decision. The most alarming part happened on our last morning. While I was waiting in the breakfast area for my husband to return with the car, I overheard a cleaning lady saying she had just seen a rat in the kitchen. A few moments later, another staff member came in and, from what I gathered, the rat had been killed. I was absolutely horrified. This raises serious questions about the cleanliness and hygiene standards of the hotel — especially in the food preparation areas. As if that weren’t bad enough, the elevator stopped working twice in the same day — and both times, we were stuck inside. It halted between floors, with no warning, no explanation, and no staff available to help. As if that wasn’t enough, I realized I had forgotten my iPhone charger in the room after we checked out. I’ve since made multiple attempts to contact the hotel — by phone and email — and have received no response whatsoever. It’s incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. In addition to these major issues, the room was unbearably hot, and there is no air conditioning. The staff wasn’t particularly friendly, and often there was no one at the front desk when we needed help. Breakfast was okay, but after hearing about the rat in the kitchen, I honestly wish we hadn’t eaten anything there at all. I cannot recommend this hotel. Between the rodent problem, lack of customer service, and poor facilities.

Well, I wish I'd read the reviews first! The hotel looks great in the pictures. But it is so basic. The biggest annoyance is we picked this hotel due to the free walking tour that is advertised on the website. That stopped in 2020. Isn't that false advertising? Another huge thing for us is the lack of tea or coffee making facilities in your room. It's so frustrating. There's ONE coffee machine for the whole hotel in the breakfast area. It means you have to get up, get dressed, queue up, just to have a cup of coffee to take back to your room. Our coffee cups that we took back to our room weren't cleaned or removed. The bed and pillows are extremely uncomfortable. My partner ended up having a really painful neck for the whole weekend. We had ZERO service from the hotel. Even when we checked out the receptionist wasn't there. Then appeared. Looked at us and said nothing. Strange. Not very hospitable. Don't stay here!

Do not stay here. We booked the double room with canal view for the first night of our honeymoon and it was horrible. The towels and sheets were stained and had holes in them, the plug socket was physically hanging off the wall with wires exposed, the bathroom door was chipped and lots of paint was peeling off, the radiator was hanging off the wall, toilet was cracked, the glass water bottle they provide was cracked and sharp glass exposed and the shower screen leaked flooding the bathroom floor with water and much more . The only positive was the location as it was close to lots of shops and restaurants and so we didn’t have to spend any considerable amount of time in it.

Only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer! Lovely set up. Easy to find from train. Easy check in and if you’re there early you can leave your bags and go explore. Very friendly staff. Well priced. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, there was a change in our trip and I cancelled the accommodation during the allowable period. Though I confirmed with the hotel that I would be receiving a refund, working with the hotel has been a very difficult process with little to no communication on their side. I am happy not be staying here and would warn others about these challenges.

Smallest bathroom I've seen in a hotel for a long time. Bar and lounge area closes at 9.45pm, so useless if you want to chill after a day of exploring. Room was very basic.

Lovely place to stay in Bruges! Perfect location to get known the center of the city and its top spots. The rooms felt a little bit empty, but they are warm. The bathroom on it was great in our room. This hotel got a friendly aura on it and the workers are very helpful and kind to us. The breakfast was top, many choices to eat and drink and apart from that the lovely view to the canal in front / side of the hotel, seeing the duck and swans passing by. Truly recommend a stay in this hotel if you want to stay in Bruges.
