Hotel Montchalet (Ortisei, Alps / Dolomites) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If you had to confine your travels, for the rest of your life, to destinations entirely within Italy’s borders, you could still do pretty well for yourself. From Sicily to the Amalfi to Rome to Cinque Terre, the diversity is astonishing — and the mere existence of South Tyrol and the Dolomites feels downright gratuitous. The impossibly picturesque Val Gardena is where you’ll find Hotel Montchalet, an alpine lodge in flawless modern luxury-boutique style, which, though it contains a mere 16 suites, nevertheless features all the comfort (and many of the services) of a much larger and more extensive resort." - Tablet Hotels

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights at Montchalet and intend to return in the future. We had the room with the Steamshower and 2 balconies and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! I can not say enough wonderful things about the staff - from the driver of the shuttle, the receptionists, bartender, masseuse and especially the wait staff in the restaurant! They felt like family by the end of our stay. Their attention to detail and service is first class! We ate dinner in the hotel all 3 nights, with the last night being room service, excellent each time. We found the selection on the menus to be excellent. Breakfast was delicious and loved the variety. Can not say enough good things about Montchalet.

This is one of the few hotels that I would plan a trip around returning to. Everything about it was truly fantastic. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help answer questions, make plans for us, or give recommendations based on what we wanted to do in the area. We booked the room with the Finnish sauna, and it was exceptional. The room was very large with incredible views from the balcony, and the sauna got truly hot! (80-100 celsius) It's a little walk from town (~12 minutes), but the staff are more than happy to drive you to the center, or if you want a little morning / evening walk, it's a great way to start or end your day! We hope to return!

I stayed at the Hotel Montchalet and, I had a wonderful experience. Our suite was spacious and well-appointed, featuring a comfortable king-sized bed and two private balcony overlooking the downtown and mountains. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any requests. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. With its beautiful location, comfortable accommodations, and excellent amenities, it’s a great choice for families, couples, or solo travelers. I would definitely return!

We stayed here with our family and had 3 suites. The property is nice and most of the staff are great. The issue we had was when our grown daughter and her husband had problems with the air conditioning and their suite not getting cold. They called the front desk and the staff attempted to fix the problem and gave them portable units. The portable units did an insufficient job cooling the place. The following morning our daughter went downstairs to the front desk to discuss what could be done, and immediately out of the back room a woman walked out SCREAMING at them! She said she was the manager, and would not let them speak. The worst part of the ordeal was that we found out that she WAS THE OWNER, so we know there will be no action taken to correct this abusive behavior. The only reason we did not give a worse review was that the staff apologized for her behavior and one staff member commented that they had never seen anything like this in all their years in the hospitality industry. Our family vacation to this supposed 5 star hotel went from something we all cherished as a family to one of disappointment. I should never in good conscience recommend a hotel/resort where the owner is mean and abusive to guests. Bottom line is it’s impossible to fire the owner, and therefore we will never return!

My family and I had an amazing 2 nights at this luxury boutique hotel and cannot recommend it enough (we were bummed our British Airlines flight delayed us a night- bc the hotel is that great!)|The staff is super courteous and welcoming. The room was large and extremely comfortable. The amenities were great! All the expectations you’d want in a luxury hotel.|The cons: our shower room has no door. This was uncomfortable for my pre-teen daughters. The guests jacuzzi is small. Only fits around 4 people. And the menu could use more options. Despite these minor cons, we will definitely make this our go to spot for Ortisei.

My husband and I had the most amazing 4 nights at this small luxury boutique hotel and can not recommend it enough for anyone looking for a base for their stay in the Dolomites. First of all the staff at the hotel are amazing, Sara at the front desk was so helpful and knowledgeable with giving us all sorts of recommendations including restaurants and hikes and answering all of our questions. |Our room at the hotel was large and extremely comfortable. Yes there was no AC but it was perfect to sleep with the windows open and have the lovely fresh mountain air keep us cool at night, the hotel did offer us a portable AC when we asked but we choose to have the windows open instead. |We used the free shuttle service to get dropped into town a couple of times which was a nice touch and they even dropped us at the neighboring village one evening. Saying that the hotel is close enough to center of Ortisei to walk even if it is up hill on the way back. |We didn’t eat at the hotel in the evenings but the breakfast each morning was delicious with lots of options and the staff were great as well. |Overall a fantastic stay and a lovely hotel!

Let me start with the strong points: the small hotel is beautiful, it looks great from the outside, the bar has a coolness to it, the pool is gorgeous, the spa is of a high standard and the room that we stayed in was also very pleasant, with a jacuzzi outside and a sauna and haman. The beds are good, nice big tv. Everything you expect from a luxury boutique 5 star hotel. Lastly, the staff is very helpful and kind always with a smile. Particularly the drivers that bring you to the ski lifts and the sommelier are very attentive.|Then the points that unfortunately drive my overall impression:|First and foremost the food is very average, the breakfast is limited in choice and for an inclusive half board to have to pay 10 euros for avocado, no home-made jam, limited selection and variety of bread is below my expectations, especially as this hotel is quite pricy. The dinner is very disappointing in choice, variety and quality. We were there on new years eve and didn’t want to join the 300 Euro extra charge per person for a long sit, but preferred to do our own thing. Consequently, we were charged for the burger we asked for, which was added to the bill (despite our half board). The charge was only reversed after we asked. We didn’t feel particularly welcome on that evening. Then the bar man told us on the first day that we couldn’t play cards, because if someone cool would come in and order a 1000 Euro bottle of champagne they wouldn’t appreciate us guests playing cards in the bar. I found it hard to overcome my first impression of the staff at the bar, even though the rest of the stay they were very pleasant.|So summarizing, despite the pleasant staff and the beauty of the hotel we didn’t really feel very welcomed and I find the price not in balance with what is offered, particularly the food.

The hotel is small but very well curated. I got the room with the cinema and jacuzzi and I must say it was a great room, and very comfortable. Apart from the heating which we could not lower so it was very very warm and we had to sleep with the windows open. The staff was friendly especially the staff that would bring us every day to and from the ski lifts. The service was great. We were there for New Year's and we did not opt to join the Gala dinner, but they forgot to mention that if you did not join the dinner you would not be able to eat since restaurant and bar were all taken for the dinner. So we ended up eating in our room - having to order from the room service menu. They even charged us for it when we paid half board...it would have made sense if they either made it mandatory or they make sure to take care of those guests that do not want to participate...We were very disappointed by the food, with the money you pay to stay here you would expect a certain level but unfortunately it was quite mediocre and sometimes quite ridiculous ( my veal cutlet was like the sole of a shoe...) I save the best for last, at the bar we were told we could not play cards with our child (if every hotel in the world we have never experienced this - one would think they would want people to stay at the bar and order drinks..) since it was not "cool" to play cards in their bar when there are people ordering 1000 euros worth of champagne....Unbelievable..I have been to the best hotels in the world where people spend much more and no one dared tell us we could not play cards at the bar. Frankly even though the hotel is charming, and the rooms nice, that is where it ends. I would not return.

Yelp
We had the most amazing stay here! The service was impeccable and staff was so accommodating! The rooms are so nice, really comfortable beds and great amenities. We brought our two teenage kids and they loved it also. Not far from the town center and they have a shuttle. The food was SO good too,
