Best Family-Friendly Resorts in Europe to Book This Summer

"Cádiz, Spain Arriving here with children feels akin to smuggling a toddler into a nightclub: very much not the done thing. The hotel is a grown-up hideaway of stepped lawns and terraces, winding paths and olive and citrus trees sunk into a cleft between dusty hills. Tables for two sit beneath draped vines, and garden nooks are set with day beds for afternoon snoozing. In other words, a retreat where wheeling swifts are the only thing dive-bombing the saltwater pool. For a few weeks a year, however, they elbow out the couples to let families in, with activities that stretch from circus skills and mobile-making to trampolining and pool games, all overseen by a tomboyish childcare whizz and her team. There’s an imaginative children’s menu plus all the pool inflatables, bubbles, and glitter they could ever want (and someone else to clear it up). Complimentary babysitters will relieve you of your charges for an hour or two so you can drink wine and read a sentence of your book before dozing off in the shade. These weeks are the brainchild of the hotel’s owners, Lee and Amelia Thornley, who run the design studio Bert & May and, being parents themselves, are well-versed in the challenges of family vacations. The nine-room finca has been deliciously restored in a restrained, rustic style, with tactile plaster walls, antique dressers, stone arches, iron balustrades, and airy rooms with balconies and bathtubs. For larger families there’s the new two-bedroom villa, The Stables, set away from the hotel but with a direct phone line to reception, so room service can be ordered. Or there’s a three-bedroom casita with its own pool and terrace, and—better yet—a yurt for grumpy teens. This is a supremely clever choice for anyone with a phobia of big, all-singing-all-dancing resorts. Price: Rooms from around $276 per night Book now at Booking.com" - CNT Editors, Issy von Simson

This is the sister hotel to the Monte Triana hotel we had just stayed at in Seville, where we travelled from, so were excited to try this hotel. It was great- staff very friendly and helpful. We had a superior room on the 7th floor with its own terrace. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast each day was varied and well stocked. The hotel was a lovely 15-20 minute stroll along the seafront or through the city walls, to the centre of Cadiz, so perfect for us. There is a supermarket next door. The only suggestion I would make is that it would be nice to make more of the terrace in the room, maybe some plants or sunbeds.

An absolute gem! I spent some time researching a hotel in Cadiz and went with this one based on the reviews on this site. What a find! Therese and Isabel made us so welcome the moment we set foot through the door. They were incredibly helpful with absolutely everything. If ever anyone went above and beyond it is these two ladies. What stars! The hotel is immaculate throughout, we had a lovely big room with a small terrace where we enjoyed sitting for a glass of wine in the evening. No views but this didn't matter, we were there for three nights and the seafront is just around the corner. The bonus of this hotel is that it has an underground carpark, perfect for our hire car. Less than 10 minutes walk into the old town it is ideally located. Breakfast was excellent with an amazing choice and we enjoyed the one evening meal we had there.|Another bonus is there is a good supermarket just two doors down from the hotel. Cannot fault it and we would definitely stay here again if coming back to delightful Cadiz. We just wished we'd booked more than three nights. The old town is unspoiled and we visited Gibraltar - made easy by Therese and Isabel's help and good knowledge. A brilliant hotel and we thought good value for money.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful, modern hotel. It is very close to the beach and it takes about 20 minutes to walk into Cádiz. There are lots of nice bars and restaurants very close by the hotel. The train station is about a 10 minute walk away. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very clean. We stayed in a superior room that had a large balcony. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and beautifully designed. Everything about this hotel is excellent and we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Cádiz.

Great hotel located just few steps from the beach. The front desk personnel speaks English fluent and is very helpful. Rooms are quiet and tidy with big flat screen on wall and a coffee machine on a table. Breakfasts were tasty with lots of varieties. The only thing that could be better is the view, actually there is no spectacular view, because of the social building hiding the sea view.

Everything from check-in until check-out was perfect. At the check-in Teresa was very helpful and very nice. The room was perfect for us, the size and cleanliness. The breakfast buffet had everything and Mario was very attentive. Especially at my birthday. After check-out we could leave our luggage and car and Angel did as well an awesome job. We really enjoyed our stay and you all made it perfect. From the hotel you are quickly in the city and around the corner at the beach.

I’m giving this 5 stars. The hotel is by a beautiful beach, just a few minutes walk. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are a good size and our room on 6th floor was modern, clean and very quiet. Breakfasts were good with a wide range and choice. The location of the hotel is not really an issue as it is a few minutes cab ride (about €7 to the middle of the Old Town). There is a bus (number 1) that will take you from the harbour to outside the hotel for €1.10. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Cádiz.

Staff members were very helpful, we requested a kettle in the room and they had one put in our room, reception offered suggestions on where to visit and marked it on a map which they gave us. |Breakfast had both hot and continental and a selection of fish, the room was large and had fresh towels every day. The bathroom was well stocked with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. There is a coffee machine and selection of coffees, a well stocked fridge as well. Although no pool in the hotel, the beach is only 200 metres away.|We found it useful to buy beach chairs as the small number of beds for hire were at the furthest end of the beach €19 per day

Very large room. Nice TV with YouTube and Netflix. No prices for the minibar. Why would you use it when there’s a supermarket in the same building? Would be much nicer with an empty fridge instead. Parking was €17 per night in the underground garage. Spaces are very small.
