Hotel More

Just returned from a short break in Hotel More and it was absolutely fabulous. We were a group of 3 staying in one of the apartments in the Villa and the room was huge, so spacious and well equipped with two bathrooms and a kitchenette. It was spotlessly clean and bed really comfortable. The best part was the patio doors opening right onto the pool! Breakfast was lovely and the views from absolutely every part of the hotel were incredible. The cocktails in the Cave Bar were delicious and we had the most amazing meal in Restaurant More. An absolutely beautiful hotel and would love to return.

Very definitely worth choosing a Seaview room. The hotel is a bit confusing as the rooms are on several layers in two distinct buildings. There is an excellent breakfast and the restaurants, of which there are two, are both very good if not cheap. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The “cave bar” is a curiosity with table service on three or four levels inside a cave - as well as external seating by the waters edge overlooking the sea if the weather is suitable.

Watch out during breakfast / meals for giant bees(wasp?)- they sting!! This is no joke! My mom got stung on the face while watching the sunset. I thought she was dramatic until we saw the giant insect buzzing around again during breakfast inside. See pics. I ran away to sit elsewhere. The hotel is great and we really enjoyed it and the breakfast. Beautiful views. Agree with guests about the water. We are a family of 4 in a family suite. So … giving more than 1 liter of complimentary water would be nice so we don’t have to ration water on the first night. Otherwise it’s €6 for a 0.33l bottle of water in minibar. Note that 1 liter water costs like €1.50 max in supermarket. Or just drink tap!

We booked a room through trip.com which based on the picture led me to believe that the room had a balcony with a view of the sea.  Room was an interior room with no view.  Feel clearly misled by trip.com’s advertising and will use a different site when booking our next room.  Was in Greece and Croatia for three weeks and this was definitely our least favorite room.

This stay was a splurge for us at the end of our 2 weeks exploring Croatia as we wanted luxury and relaxation after traveling around to different spots. Based off the star ratings and reviews I had HIGH expectations. I will say, we were a bit underwhelmed. The service and stay was just ok, but I will admit the views were fabulous. We thought we would love sitting up on that hill taking in the views but really we just wanted to be back in the heart of the old town. To be fair maybe we should started at a place like this but once you taste the quaint streets/ sights of the old town you don’t wanna be away from it! Overall a fine experience just didn’t live up to the hype for what we paid!

This hotel is in the most stunning location and this is its best feature. The rooms are very clean and comfortable (sea view), they are dated in their decor with an over bath shower. The breakfast is very good with lots of choice. The restaurants, pool bar and cave bar are very expensive. The pool bar menu especially, as many holiday makers prefer a slightly less formal light food for lunch. The hotel staff are okay, I wouldn’t say friendly and in fact some seemed as if it was a bother to help. A big negative is the lack of water supplied to guests, you are provided with one complimentary bottle and after that, the hotel advice is to use tap water. Alternatively, a bottle of water at the hotel is €7 which is steep. There is a supermarket approximately a 10-15 minute walk away. If the hotel does not wish to provide bottled water, that is their prerogative, however, the least they could provide is water coolers around the hotel. The lifts are a little confusing but this hotel is built into a cliff face so to be expected. The main pool area is clean, beds are limited. Overall, this is a good standard of hotel, however, being an experienced traveller, this is definitely not a 5 star hotel and I think it thinks it’s better than it is. For me, it’s the attention to detail which makes a hotel 5 star and this hotel lacks attention to some details.

Hotel More on the Lapad Peninsula just outside Dubrovnik Old Town is one of my favourite hotels. Although the layout of the hotel might appear to be confusing at first there is very good signage especially by each lift (elevator). Great breakfast, self service but eggs cooked in a variety of ways can be ordered from the bar. We found all members of staff at reception, housekeeping and at the restaurants to be very helpful and extremely polite. We had a very good sea view from the balcony of our hotel room. There are scenic views walking along the Lapad promenade a coastal path with pine trees that goes past the lower part of the hotel. Cave Bar More allows you to get the lift from your hotel room and walk out onto a sea-facing terrace where you can take steps down into the sea. Drinks and bar snacks are available and the sunsets over the bay are incredible. Hotel More has two restaurants - Restaurant Tramuntana that serves breakfast and evening meals plus Restaurant More that serves lunch and evening meals. We were on half board and tried both restaurants for evening meals. Tramuntana has more seafood but there is overlap and both restaurants are very good. They have a good selection of local wines but remember that this is a 5-star hotel they do not sell the wine at supermarket prices. PLEASE NOTE: You need to wear water shoes when swimming here. It is rocky but in addition there are sea urchins (small black very spiky balls) and you do not want to have to remove lots of spines from your feet after a swim. The water is deep and not suitable for young children.

I was only staying for one night so a little hard to give a full review but there were a few niggles I came across: 1. It’s a very spread out property on a steep hill so you could have quite a walk to your room. Mine was the opposite end of the building and I was originally told I would be shown to my room. However, once out of the lobby elevator, the porter simply pointed in the direction of the room which was still down a maze of corridors, through a parking garage and into another building! I thought this was a bit weird but maybe he was at the end of his shift…. 2. The rooms are impressive in size but have strange furniture that don’t really go with the style. Things like an ironing board are missing and it feels a little bare. Soundproofing is poor too (I was staying above the restaurant which was noisy). 3. The breakfast felt a little sparse and could get quite repetitive if staying for a few days. I know it’s subjective and the food is quality looked good but I didn’t find much of interest. 4. You need to reserve tables outside for dinner which is to be expected given the views but something to be aware of. It’s also quite expensive (cocktails shockingly so). Overall it’s a nice hotel in a spectacular location and judging by the reviews of people staying longer, very popular too. Don’t be too put off by my review but I hope it gives you a different perspective.
