I stayed at Hotel Mrak last year, and while the accommodation and atmosphere were generally great, with an excellent breakfas. I often switch hotels in Ljubljana, and though there are worse and better options, I chose Hotel Mrak again. The receptionist (a lady) wasn’t particularly friendly, possibly due to a language barrier. We were assigned a recently renovated room, but it looked poor at first glance—misaligned mattresses and cheap, see-through bedding. The room was extremely noisy; you could hear hallway doors opening and closing, footsteps from the room above and beside us, and conversations from neighboring rooms. The sound of flushing toilets at night was disruptive. There was also a strong damp smell—initially aired out, but it returned once the windows were closed. We barely slept, which was awful. I mentioned this to the male receptionist in the early morning, and he apologized, but when you’re on a tight schedule, missing a night’s sleep affects your entire week. If you prioritize a great location and good breakfast, Mrak is a solid choice. However, if you need rest, sleep, or peace, this isn’t the place. The renovations seemed incomplete, and something was definitely off.
